- This Unusual approach at Osaka Itami Airport is due to the rare winds, It lasted about 2 hours before returning to the usual approach.
You'll see a Japan Airlines 787 flying across the city into the downwind leg and then making a nice right turn into the base leg before the mountain.

What impresses me more, than the work of the pilots, is the work of that cameraman. This is the most impressive curve I have ever seen in an aviation video. Amazing!

For me it is one of the most intriguing and interesting Airports !! I find this curve that they make both to land and to leave beautiful.
The combination of the perspective and long-focus lens really makes it hard to make out the relative position of those aircraft. I seriously thought that ERJ was going to crash into that Dash 8 lol. Anyway, those are some badass landings.

しかも、これだけ視界が良好な状態だと大抵北風です。南風の状態でというのは30年近くで何回あっただろう。
そういうことで、ものすごく貴重な映像です。
Yes, I tried 5 weeks and couldn't get the south wind again. I tried at the same month that this video was made but no strong south wind. thank you :)

Brilliant footage. Tracking of the aircraft throughout is superb. The camera angle gives a deceptive perspective of the aircraft as though it is approaching at a perpendicular to the runway. Wish we could have some screeching sound.

So rare to see landings from this direction. We fly into Osaka Itami always from the southeast.
What's the touch down speed usually?
I've had that before as a passenger. The airplane took so much time to land though it had already announced that it was landing soon. It must've been hovering over somewhere near the airport an hour or so. It was over Narita. How frustrating.

08:20. For a moment I thought the airport wanted to do a quick turnaround military style. One plane lands, while another plane takes off on the SAME runway seconds apart. Smaller plane could get up with less ground. Then I thought...no way, civilians.
That’s crazy! The telephoto lens compresses everything in an unrealistic looking way.

I was wondering where they were going to land as they approached the runway, but it was just the long-lens camera perspective which made them seem to pass by the runway as they approached.
If I ever fly into Itami I'm gonna make sure I'm on the right hand side

I wonder where this is filmed. My aunt lives in Hotarugaike, the small city right next to Itami. I don’t recall a building or tower this high unless this is from Mino area.

I can't find any approach chart for rwy14R...it's a visual approach???
I believe it’s a visual approach. All I can find is a runway lead in lighting system for 14R/L.
It makes sense since the mountains are so close to the airport, and noise abatement rules state that plans should stay south of the highway. Departures from 32L/R pretty much immediately turn to avoid those obstacles.
The handle now all normal seems to be hitting the runway right down the center of everything's running copy that should be preparing for the best super best to come up to pick up there the
