  • You all requested Band-Maid so much, and promised I would like them, so I finally watched. This was not the sound I expected at all, and it absolutely blew me away! So much so that for the first time I ever, I recording ANOTHER reaction immediately after this one and am doing a back-to-back DOUBLE release of Band-Maid reactions! After you see this one of me hearing them for the first time, check out me watching them perform "Domination" live and being absolutely stunned by their talent!

Alright, I admit defeat... You were right. ALL OF YOU were right. This band is killer! In fact, I liked it so much and wanted so much more that I did ANOTHER one of their videos 5 minutes after this one, and am doing my first ever back-to-back DOUBLE video release. If you like this one, check out my reaction to "Domination (Live)", that completely stunned me and blew me away. I also break down a lot of their gear on stage and have some cool tidbits of info in that one, too. Hope you enjoy both videos!

yo thank u so much in advance, I havent seen it yet and cant watch it live, but I appreciate a reaction to my fav band! misa is the one I look up to as bass player. but the way akane creates beat changes within songs and keep it rolling without a pause is incredible. and who doesnt like saikis voice :) . bit of information...: saiki joined the band later on cause and miku is now doing backing vocals, cause her voice was too cute to be the lead singer =D. if you want to see more of misa, someone uploaded 1min clips of her practicing basslines. I prefer the official videos to react to but if u wanna switch to a live reaction , choose "wonderland" and "onset". otherwise good music videos are "blooming" u have to react to that one, or "yolo" "alone" "glory" ... there are so many =D.

Kanami, lead guitarist/main composer, plays through the same stack as Pat O’Brien of Cannibal Corpse! And her pedal board is QUITE extensive. Also, VERY nice catch on the Zemaitis! Almost everyone, including myself, thinks Gibson at first. She’s playing her pearl faced Ring Chess for the mv, but no longer for live shows. She keeps it tucked away at home, to be brought out only for short “at home” jam videos.💪🏻🤘🏻

A brief on the maids, in order of seniority.
Miku Kobato (pronounced mee-koo), nickname Kopparu ("Little Pigeon"). Band founder, backing vocals, rhythm guitar, lyricist, tireless PR machine and spokespigeon. Originally planned to be the lead singer, but demoted herself when she realized her voice was too soft for hard rock. Learned to play guitar while in the band, going from holding the guitar as a prop to her own solos in six years. Relentlessly cute, definitely eccentric, possibly insane.
Kanami Tono (kah-nah-mee), nick: Kanamincho or just Mincho ("Princess Gums" or "Gums"). Lead guitar, keyboards, principal composer and arranger. Not just a musical genius, as she has a degree in economics from Tokyo University (like being a Harvard graduate). On stage, she plays a space cadet with a room temperature IQ and a massive crush on Saiki.
Akane Hirose (ah-kah-neh), n: A-chan or The Gorilla. Drummer, and the closest the band has to a leader- when the others can't come to an agreement, she'll occasionally issue a decree that everyone accepts, like "Kanami will teach Miku guitar " or "everyone can design their own uniforms ". Cheerful, unflappable, and always snacking.
MISA (mee-sah), n: MISA MISA MISA! or The Barefoot Assassin. Bassist, booze, and occasional wet work. Usually has a bottle of bourbon on her amp (though lately beer has been more common). Barely seems aware of the audience.
Saiki Atsumi (sah-ee-kee, although most westerners pronounce it as "Psyche", which is close), n: Sai-chan or The Ice Queen. Lead vocals, assistant lyricist, "we're done" girl (the other four will happily keep tweaking a song until the end of time- her job is to say "it's good, let's move on "). Off stage she is quiet, a bit shy, a train nerd, and a fashionista. On stage, she is a sexy siren, a bit of a dominatrix, and constantly exasperated with her four charges, especially Miku and Kanami.

I currently work at a guitar pedal company and on certain days of the week I have input on what plays on the shop floor. I grew up listening to primarily Visual kei/Japanese music and dont really know a ton of american rock/metal music. But NONE of my coworkers as far as I'm aware listen to japanese music and I have "Maid" it my goal to get a majority of them into Band Maid. They have a sound that I think a majority of people will resonate with to some capacity. Not super heavy, catchy parts, nice riffs, and they litterally all have great musicianship. No matter what instruments my coworkers play I'm sure they can find something from one of their songs they like. They are well balanced in that sense. Here's to hoping I can bring Band Maid to the work place in 2022!

Great reaction. You picked a great first song from them as well as this one represents their sound and style really well. "Fun, upbeat rock and roll" was my exact reaction the first time hearing this. Slick editing too btw, which I'm not normally in to overproduced stuff but you pulled it off. I saw you're doing Domination live too which I'm sure you'll like as well, so recommend Blooming MV and Freedom Live (Feb 2020) next. The rabbit hole is calling.

I rewatched this video a few times since its release. its the end of november 2021 and your beard is so much longer now :-) i think this video changed my life in a positive way.
I have never heard of band-maid and i came here for babymetal reactions. i struggled with listening to other japanese bands but when i heard this song ... omg .. i fell in love. and i think band-maid is my all time favorite band for the rest of my life. i am from germany and we also have great musicianship here. in extremo was my favorite for all the years, you reacted to them. i apreciate that. their live performances are so freaking good. i have seen them nearly 10 times. but band-maid is like a drug. i cant stop listening to them and i just wanna say: Tank you! :-)

Great review Tank, you get it ! Will subscribe, and look fwd to your next reviews. Welcome to THE MAIDIACS CLUB Yes, the bass player when asked about their style ,,,, and she said...Rock n Roll. However they play a few style and even their acoustic tracks have heart-breaker vocals even though in Japanese, emotion is still all there and more exposed. Try Rinne for a hard garage rock with retro style clip. They have some big fans , eg Jimmy Page.
