Some universities have canceled commencement events after local police were called in to numerous campuses to disband encampments and make arrests. All of this is focusing attention on the youth vote and how these scenes could shape Americans’ votes this fall. In this installment of the 538 Politics podcast, we dig into it.

I dislike this change as well! I don't know how much 538/ABC/Disney will care about our comments, but the longer they keep this up, the more they will lose my engagement with this podcast and this product.
Dunno about unsubing, but there really isn't much point ever clicking a 538 video in my YT suggestions ever again if the actual real content is somewhere else.

Student debt doesn't bite until you're still paying it off decades later and don't have a job commensurate with the debt, i.e. when you aren't a youth voter anymore. When you're in college, you're not paying down your debt.
It’s not the biggest issue by any means but it’s not like we don’t care. Most of us are preoccupied with our own lives, but people’s lives are on the line.
It's not that I don't care, but it's also not an issue that will impact who I support...

1972, I was 17, protested war, did not have much of a clue what was going on other than I might be drafted. Did meet chicks at a teach-in at UCLA and a march down Wilshire Blvd in Los Angeles that year, pretty cool. However, Nixon was reselected, the draft ended, the war dragged on, and I got a hippie van for a road trip in 1974, where in August listened by a campfire in Canada as Nixon resigned, making way for Ronald Reagan to come in a few years later. Nostalgia vs Factual History. Baby Boomer here, sorry, and to quote Captain America from the movie "Easy Rider", - We Blew It. Sometimes quite literally.

This is so dumb. One of the things I liked about FiveThirtyEight on CZcams is seeing Galen and his guests. You can't do that on Spotify or Apple Podcast. Thanks a lot ABC. Way to alienate loyal viewers😞
I even tried to go find 538 on Spotify but it seems to be audio only. Clearly a weird cost cutting move that is part of ABC’s plan to gradually kill the brand.
I'm listening to the full episode on Spotify right now and halfway thru Galen started reading an ad for Shopify. How humiliating that he's been reduced to the status of solo CZcamsrs. I mean no shame against CZcamsrs, but he's NOT A CZcamsr. He works for ABC...i.e., DISNEY!!!
So basically a list of awful things, and people prioritized the ones that most personally related to them? Feels like a 'water wet' reading of the data. I'm sure abortion rights isn't the number one issue for a lot of men, but that doesn't mean there isn't a majority of men who care deeply about the issue regardless. Also, if I heard correctly, the survey was taken back in March, before you had cops cracking heads at Columbia. Cops in riot gear tend to be negatively polarizing.
I'm just gonna wait for Nostradamus himself, Alan Lichtman, to predict the race in August.

I am the one guy whose top issues are ideals-based rather than economy/vibes-based: 1. American Democracy 2. Defending Ukraine 3. Cease-fire in Gaza. We can recover from an economic recession, but we might never recover from fascism.
We have hyperinflation, dwindling opportunities, and the climate APOCALYPSE. But no, my top issue is supposed to be some war on the other end of the world? Nah
