I somewhat agree but who is going to dump all of these alt arts the demand is still strong they aren’t rare but they are scarce. Let sealed will be opened to supply the market lots of copies tucked away in collections you will always be able to find the for sale as there are so many printed but even when people “leave” the hobby they don’t instantly sell everything
@Adam-Adamson I really like that you mention scarcity vs rarity! But I do have to counter that by saying there is no shortage of these available on the market (swsh alt in perticular) making it hard for me to agree with that. Although I should have specified in my comment that they were what I was mainly talking about and not sealed product
Cards get manipulated. The market as a whoie isnt being manipulated, everyone is just trying to jump in at the same time
Every single graph looks so similar. The price drops, the slow increases, and the fast jumps . Whether the market is being manipulated or not it seems like everyone is agreeing with the prices they’re going up to. Theyre were for sure under valued at the time they dropped, and now that the sealed product is harder to find it’s understandable that the prices of the big cards would go up above their original high prices

It’s just a bull market for the most desirable and popular era of all time in Pokemon. I think maybe the big 6 have been pumped, but the overall market has just grown extremely desirable and people don’t wanna miss the boom like most did with sun and moon’s boom. It’s just supply and demand and the nature of a cyclical market. I’m excited when we hit the next dip and SV’s “evolving skies” drops, I’m gonna absolutely load up on product when no one is buying
Everyone’s thinking the same thing bud, that’s y it won’t drop. Maybe a few dollars overtime but definitely not a huge margin. Everyone wants to go in when the price drops and that will automatically increase the price as demand increases
Every commodity market is being manipulated from corn to Pokemon cards.
I hope the giratina v, espeon vmax, and umbreon vmaxes don’t get manipulated because I have them and I don’t want confusion.

Up. Though Silver Tempest only has one card worth chasing!
Doesn't matter, I actually like how the market is working rite now. If your smart and good at investing you can make some good calls, and well if your not then your make bad calls. It is what it is. Not everyone can be a winner. Just like playing the card game.

If you were smart and good at investing, you’d not put any more than 10% of your portfolio in something like Pokemon cards. 🤣 But we are all here playing investors and calling lucky gambling strikes as ”good calls” lmao
Hey man. Me again. Is there anywhere that has more historical pricing on singles from BEFORE the boom? Is there anywhere we can see if there are any yearly trends? All i can ever find is 1yr max (more or less) and that doesnt give us a zoomed out perspective on year over year trends.
I read an interesting comment in a thread somewhere where a collector since forever made the connection between a yearly price hike of singles with the American Yearly Tax Refund season. Thoughts?

If someone wanted to see pre-boom era data i cant find anything. And who knows how much of this data would even make senee pre.
I can manipulate any market if I want to concentrate on buying a specific item. Of course, I have to spend my money to do this.
What if a trusted group of individuals decided to concentrate on specific items as you mentioned, and they would buy at each other’s stores to manipulate value?

@@rjthemoneymantoo Hi, I'm not sure exactly what you mean, but if buyer's are watching something and someone can show them that what they are watching, and may want, is selling then you certainly can cause the demand and price to go up.
Actually eBay still counts cards as sold price even if the auction winner doesn’t actually pay.
And it feels like more people have been canceling winning bids lately

I did an experiment where I bought and sold all of a common turtwig from tcg player (around $110), then relisted them at 3x market value. That change in price (and almost all major third party players use tcg players API) rippled across all of eBay, mobile collector apps, toll and toad and even other turtwigs and increased the value of those turtwigs around 200% everywhere. So yes, anyone with any desire can manipulate the big API providers and inflate/deflate card/item values...🤘if you do this slowly over time you can trigger people's bot buys and exponentially grow an item's value.

It's definitely fomo from supply going out of stock on PC so the secondary market is increasing. With that people are looking to the chase cards out of those sets. With the Umbreon going up everyone is hoping on to the other Eveelutions as well.

I would love to see what happens 12 months from now. You said it yourself, it happened before in RuneScape and it can definitely happen in Pokémon too. I am so curious to see what the market cap of sword and shield ends up as before some of that weary transfer goes into scarlet and violet: it’ll be a tell tale sign to see where scarlet and violet ends up

probably, and yes this is a real thing, for anyone in the retro gaming sphere this was exposed years back where people would buy up as much stock as possible then collude to keep the price at a certain point, shill bid, and hold/sell only at certain pricepoints.

Agree rs was easiest and best way to learn Market. Did that and loved doing it use to run a clan that. Did it with black armour and zam and guth . Lol blows my mind how people really dont understand value they think a dollar is value. People need to remem people said that about pennys. Need to keep value on something flexible and desirable not trust a dollar in sense that a dollar today might me valued at 50 cents tomarrow

Definitely. Buy as many of a card as you can. Sell it to a friend for 5x the price. Sell the rest at that price. Easy profit

Just a thought.
If you assume that the price is being manipulated due to a buyout. Then you need to assume the entity’s participating in said buy out had the foresight to soak up SWSH product prior, in anticipation of capitalising on the current record prices.
To stage a buy out now when prices are at record highs is not a good long term plan. The moonbreon for example is seeing unprecedented growth. Along with other PSA 10 alts and sealed BBs.
Something I’ve learned the hard way, and advice any good investor would give: buy at the dips and sell at the peaks.
I do believe SWSH and SM have seen good natural growth and the cause for its recent spike may be that the community is waking up to that at once. Or Because SV has been underwhelming (besides 151). It will probably slow down in the coming months but like all Pokemon product, continue a steady incline long term.
Also for a buyout to work you need to control a significant share of the market. Pokémon product is mass produced and prone to reprints which would make this difficult.

I am more in the camp of that S&S sets are gone.
They will fall hard. Especially the eevee evolution cards as soon as scarlet and violet release a big eevee evolutions ex set
Of course they’re being manipulated. If anyone wants to invest in Pokémon, though I wouldn’t recommend it, buy the more recent and cheapest booster boxes, sit on those and sell them 5 to 10 years down the road. Don’t buy into the fomo for the sets from the past.

I am shocked to see how much crown has grown. Honestly it feels like it was over night. I was also able to find etbs on the second hand market for $40 but now they are going to $50. I don’t think it’s reflected yet in tcg player.

there is no manipulation just people taking product out of stock the only way that prices will go down if pokemon does reprints NOW 151 was defo manipulated because people hogged it on released to increase prices

I can give you an example of the greatest market manipulation ever…. And a hopefully you do a video based specifically on this topic…. Pokémon gets ridiculous, free advertisement and crazy exposure and multiple hyped up products by everybody on the Internet right now, including CZcams with all these unboxing and opening and collecting channels that everyone has…. Your Channel.. poke rev and so many others, boost sales and increase so much popularity and create almost hysteria for people to want to buy and collect these cards even people that know nothing about it are buying tons and tons of cars based on what they’re constantly being exposed to on CZcams. It’s pure market manipulation….. it is the greatest form of silent advertisement that they’re getting free day by day minute by minute to basically have no wind in sight of when this boom will ever stop….. this is why Pokémon Center sins so much promotional new released items to Poki rev and everybody else because it is the best exposure and freest form of advertisement to sell their product and manipulate it the way that they need. It’s really genius if you think about it……
Giratina vstar in crown zenith is in a new popular playable deck. That is why price is up.
I’ve got a video coming about this soon - though that’s not true in Pokemon as there are alternatives.
No one is using the highest tier of rarity for a TCG deck, you can get cheaper versions of the same card.

What if people are just buying tons of alt arts and just holding on to it never selling?
People might initially have the idea of "holding and never selling", but life goes on, things happen and circumstances may change, which leads to some people eventually selling their collections further down the road. Sometimes people need money quick, and this is usually when you can strike the best deals.
Well it could be the case, but why would you just hold onto so many? You’d one day want to sell
@@phillips.collectibles sometimes it starts out as an investment but then you become attached to it and now it becomes a collectible lol. maybe down the road when I need cash but I will keep my multiple copies because It just makes me happy to see and seeing the price goes up makes the purchases feel even better.
While I love investing in pokemon I'll just say, i think you're looking at liquidity the wrong way. Anyone can sell a box or 2 lol can you instantly sell multiple cases though? Probably not as easy
