Great consistancy on those reps, thanks for sharing .. even with all that long range work you have retained a lot of short twitch fibres .I do hope you get the solution on the cramps .. it will deffo unlock another level.

As an 800 guy who's run 1:55, this workout made me feel like shit knowing that a marathoner was blowing my 150 workout splits out of the water. Then I looked up his times and he's a 1:48 guy haha. That's amazing range.

I know you know what you are doing, but here is some food for thought:
Exercise related muscle cramping is not fully understood, but as far as we know, the two main causes are:
    • Electrolyte imbalance. Please note: "not enough electrolytes" is not the same as "having an electrolyte imbalance"
    • Hydration status
There are also risk factors correlated with cramping (but remember, correlation is not causation):
    • Exercising in a hot and humid environment
    • Muscle fatigue
    • Altered muscular control
    • Age
    • Dehydration
    • Ketosis/acidosis
    • Unusually hard/long effort or new activity (like using spikes)
    • Poor conditioning
Like always, there's no easy answer: it's multifactorial, individual-dependent, and context-dependent.
Also note: acidosis can be associated with exercise related muscle cramps. Ingesting Ketone Esters can cause a slight acidosis, maybe investigate this and test if you experience less cramps by not ingesting Ketone Esters (effects of Ketone Esters on performance are still unsure and discussed in the scientific community).

I've seen these type of workouts referred to as speed development sessions. Can't race fast if you can't run fast. The payout is probably going to be significant

    Great speed Matt. 😎
I saw your cramp video on Strava once before. In your case, I don’t think hydration and electrolytes are the main cause. I think it’s more to do with muscular fatigue from either volume or intensity (or combination of both) at the level it is not used to. I wonder whether adding some faster than marathon efforts at the end of a long run where your legs are already fatigued may help when you go back to a marathon build. Just a guess. I’ve really enjoyed following your sub 2:20 journey. 👍

It's amazing you're actually doing a speed workout.
Try some fly 30m at 100% as they help with running economy and form with your kick.
BTW top of the curve is a 150 m to the finish line.
Longer recoveries (5 min) helps to maintain speed .
Your working on speed not endurance.

Are people literally doing hobby jogging/ walking around the track? What a waste of resources. They need to use the bike/walking paths for easy running and walking.

    • @Fed08Roger
      @Fed08Roger Před 26 dny +7

Walking, agreed. What seems like jogging could be all out pace for some. Track etiquette : if you are on, you are on. No questions asked
