I graduated from there in 2012. Hard to believe huh!! We only lived in Brandon Hall and we actually had a pretty decent experience. Within the last 3-4 yrs ppl have been vandalizing the school. After i graduated there were more and more cases of ppl setting fires to the buildings and neighborhood kids being kids. Its pretty sad there is so much history within that school and i cant believe it never bounced back.
I'm currently at a college where there's declining enrollment and it's scary to think that my college could turn out this way in 30 years. It'd be haunting to go back and visit the place as an Urban Explorer, to see what changed, and what failed. Things can deteriorate so quickly, it's insane. I'm glad you've enjoyed your time there at least, didn't seem like it was a bad place to be in.
Why did it close?
I want to know when it close
I would love to know WHY people were setting the buildings on fire
V H cuz ppl are assholes and they have no respect for anything. I guess they see an abandoned building and think hey who cares?
It never ceases to amaze me how much value is allowed to rot away when different facilities close for financial reasons; the irony is simply amazing!! Just a couple of items... those Brunswick Jetback Bowling Pinsetters would've been worth at least $30,000 (total) and a decent baby-grand piano of any quality can be $8,000+... Obviously the value bottoms out when they are allowed to rot and/or be vandalized. And the place is full of lab equipment, elevators, light fixtures, kitchen equipment, etc.
Dana Danarosana You see, they paid most their debt. And if they had been smart and sold everything on auction straight after their foreclosure, they would’ve at least paid the debt off and successfully transform the building into a source of revenue.
Dana, too often administrators don't care. And once it went to the creditors, they couldn't have gotten rid of it easy enough or fast enough for them to bother. Creditors are lazy bastards. They'll foreclose on something and then resell it for pennies on the dollar. Hell, they could have turned all of that into apartments or a civic center or something. But, like I said, creditors are lazy, they just want a fast easy buck.
I agree, its really stupid. Many expensive equipment left to waste. Not only could it of been used as a source of revenue but many people could of continued using it.
It should be legal to steal these things instead of letting them get destroyed, if the building is in such a bad state
Well somethings might be contaminated, especially in the science department. Doesn't seem like the college stored or cleaned it properly there's chemicals lying around on the tables.
When you accidentally post a video on Thursday instead of Friday because you don't know what day it is... Well enjoy this one early guys!
The Proper People That's okay :D at least we get an early vid
The Proper People so as not to confuse us to much,i think it best you post another vid tomorrow anyway😜
Thats OK......its Friday here, so its the first one you have put up on time lolol
no way!! except I did this the other day with the auto-scheduler. 😥
The Proper People what's the intro song called
My former boss worked as a Vice-President at Knoxville College for years. He said he was rarely, if ever, paid. When I told him that Knoxville College closed he said: "It was a long time coming." Thanks for posting. I live close to Knoxville and have been wondering what has become of the campus.
Which makes one wonder where the money was going.
if he rarely got paid why did he stay for years? first time or two that happened at my job i wouldve bounced
"Why are we always so fascinated by ice?" "Because we're from Florida." I'm from Florida and i would be too 😂
@@gabrielantos6125 It was a Christian college and on rare occasion the admins are actually volunteers. Although the college I went to is actually growing and has paid administrators, many are shrinking.
DR. HATTON DESTROYED THIS SCHOOL WITH HER GREED.
Smart call at the end. It's choices like that which are why you haven't been arrested yet. Another great video, too.
I would have stayed tbh
It's really too bad when partiers go in and wreck a place like that! Not only does it cause destruction but also leads to higher security which ends up punishing innocent explorers. Great location guys!
I would say the the room at 22:20 is a recording studio for performers and the reason the floor and walls are now cracked is because it would have had a 'floating floor' which isolates sound when recording. You'll also see a window on the side (which would have originally had double-glass in it) where the recording technician would have sat with equipment. That's my guess anyways...
tubeie07 my guess: that’s a “theater-in-the-round”. Music/Drama in the middle and spectator seated on the round risers. I suspect the floor just cracked and heaved up due to frost. The window was probably the sound/light room, they too can have double pane glass.
@@sdg6976 Yep, that’s it. Not very common anymore. Looks like it used to be really nice.
It could also have been a “theater in the round”, which was a really “hip” thing to do in the mid-60’s to early 70’s. Players were in the middle and the audience sat in chairs on the raised circular rings.
It always saddens me to see vandalized pianos :(
Jerry Dodge Me too!!
All those poor Computers without a home or someone to cherish them makes me sad
Same. :(
Jerry Dodge
why do Squad people do weirdo shit?
That why they are there is guess.....
If they have any skills, they would appreciate this!
yeah could have been sold for atleast 8,000
love this channel, thank you for real exploration with no fake "ghost" love you guys
ImpactEvilGaming "Dear ghost. Answer us by making a noise we can make offscreen or in post production"
*Hears stomping that was obviously caused by cameraman*
"IT'S THE GHOST!!!"
Muu Too lol, basically the opening of hamlet 😂😂😂
ohhh yeah, I really hate those videos where they claim something is haunted, but it clearly isn't. Really sucks for people like me, who make honest titles, but somehow people like to see "haunted" stuff :D
ImpactEvilGaming So true.
I would love to see a gag ghost urban exploration video where this scenario occurs.
If only people had footage of how the place look like before it got abandoned
It'd be like that final scene from Titanic XD
Mattzilla Gamer that would be next level awesome right there
Mattzilla, I was thinking that through this whole thing!!! Wishing they could show pics from old catalogs or something about how the buildings and inside of dorm rooms looked when trying to entice people to attend.
Just Google it there's tons of pictures and some really interesting stories.
yuppp
"Why are we always so fascinated by ice?" "Because we're from Florida." I'm from Florida and i would be too 😂
Marie Riedmueller I'm from Oklahoma, wanna trade states? lol
Marie Riedmueller
You play Hockey? Field, need ice?
Also from a warm climate, so same.
I’d say the same but when it’s 58°F on Christmas Day in Michigan, jealousy levels of southerners is at a smaller level lol
They would have a field day after seeing the aftermath of an ice storm.
this series is like ghost adventures but without the ghosts
Steven Reviews that also describes Ghost Adventures actually.
But these guys aren't total toolboxes.
No comparison zac bagens or bagebs is a huge huge douchebag. The biggest bag of vinegar water i have ever seen... more like an enema bag
And without fabricted hauntings for profit, those people do similar shit, just with stupid ghost and spirit dialog.
Wonder if anyone watching ever went to this college and is getting weird nostalgia
TwX EdgE this is my hometown, i attended some summer camps on this campus. its very weird to watch it abandoned.
I was thinking the same thing. I came home to visit years ago and my old high school was in the middle of being torn down. I looked up from street level and saw a mural that a past student class painted in a hallway. It was odd seeing it from the ground and also that soon it was all the be gone.
@1400deadwood What are the two degrees you did exactly study?
1400deadwood imo college is only good if you’re into STEM or becoming a lawyer
@@toromiheartstwo College is about learning and learning, in my opinion can be broken down into education and training. Stem is training just as plumbing, carpentry, mechanics and understanding and manipulating non living things. Education however is something totally different. Education is abstract thinking which has little to do with non living things, it has to do with living things, the human animal. History, philosophy, psychology, economics, law, etc. Much of the practice of law deals with philosophy and history. But all of the education one gets doesn't get you anywhere these days since they have totally watered down the curriculum to a bunch of meaningless leftist babble. If however, you work hard to understand the human animal then you can better anticipate movements of the human herd and capitalize on those moves. It is not a sure thing particularly if one has not been educated in the classical liberal arts. In finance for instance, you will find huge amounts of historians and philosophy majors.
Stuff people can use STILL!
And sell!
They should have had an auction there before completely closing it down.
So the stuff can go good homes, businesses, and/or homes.
That would be nice!
The facial expression at 27:21 broke my heart. You guys are tenacious and love what you do. I admire that.
Wow... I just did some reading up and studying on that college and I must say wow... Its honestly kind of sad that it ended that way. Because it was a historical college. And judging from the pictures. It was a very beautiful college at one point. Its sad as to what happened to it.
It was, a highly regarded place.
This place was a piece of shit for a while
Someone needs to rescue the piano's!!!!! That Grand that you played on is a very nice piano and the pinsetter's also need to be saved!!!
That wasn't just a Mac game that was Wolfenstien 3D!!!!! Before Doom, before anything...before the mouse was invented!!!
Bender Yes lisa simpsons
I just read that some University offices are back on campus as of 2018.. Plans are afloat to renovate the entire campus.
Excellent video guys.
I loved the dramatic piano music at 20:00 abruptly interrupted by Michael's foot hitting the real piano 😂😂
I really like how you two work as a team and always respect each other’s opinion. If one of you feels iffy, the other no questions asked respects the others not wanting to continue. Keep it up guys! Love the channel and content!
hats off to you guys for being so respectful of what is there. not destroying or taking anything. and being very polite and respectful of the past.
Would be amazing if you guys made a photography book of some of the photos you've taken of abandoned places! I would buy the crap outta that
Twix Yes can do txit
That's already a thing
The people responsible for the funding of this college did wrong to all those students and alumni by not taking care of business properly. also by not removing books, the pianos, and any other things like pictures in the presidential areas is also wrong. They could have sold the items off at an auction including chairs to help pay debts or save for up keep. They could have created one building for keeping the memories up for the public, charge a fee for entrance and then invested it into the property. There is much that could have been done. I'm so sad to see a campus abandoned and the items not properly dealt with. Complete irresponsibility on the head of staff!
It really depends on what happens. Being in debt, it may have been turned over the creditors that had no clue what to do with it. In that case, that staff can't do anything. It's not their stuff anymore. Not only that, they no longer have a job. How much work are you willing to do for free to sell off stuff and have to turn over everything to the new owners?
Russell Hltn If you watch the local news about this you'll see they paid 300,000 off in debt. So they had that done, however there was other issues yes that they faced. But it still doesn't explain why they left remaining items.
In my opinion it seems obvious that the administrators of this institution were more interested in budgeting fat salaries and perks for themselves than insuring the maintenance of the facility, fiscal responsibility, or the quality of the education. I am assuming, perhaps foolishly, that there was some sort of Board of Governors or Directors who saw their appointments as prestigious sinecures and who couldn't or wouldn't provide any oversight, which should have been their primary function. As the rats fled the sinking ship I am sure no one thought about preserving anything for a doubtful posterity since they were busy covering their own posteriors. The idea of a museum to which anyone would pay for admission is preposterous; again, in my opinion. What exists now seems an excellent depiction of the school as it really was.
LodiTX There are many examples of higher education institutions that keep their history alive in many ways and do their jobs correctly. This institution lost its accreditation. That alone shows the lack of ability by all who were in high positions on staff. A Museum could have happened if the people of that town wanted to in order to keep the memories alive and history important to them. If the town wanted to keep this institution up, much more could have been done. They failed the community and prosperity of growth.
The examples you are talking about sound like institutions that are still functioning and I agree with that. I'm in Texas and every active institution for higher education has many traditions and practices and histories that have been kept up and maintained for decades. Obviously in the case of this institution no one cared or it wouldn't be a ruin now. Saying that people should is your opinion and I think that's great, but it doesn't seem to be going to happen for this place.
Just when i sat down for my break at work you guys posted. Love your videos ! literally addicting
Bro I love your content!
May 17, 2018, the Tennessee Higher Education Commission gave its
approval for Knoxville College to once again reopen its doors and offer
classes. On The 1st of July 2018 Knoxville College posted on its website
that it is again enrolling students for its fall 2018 semester.
Limited. As of 2021, it is still mostly abandoned and in ruins. There are hopes of getting it back to life, but that's a massively long journey.
Somebody save that fucking Yamaha those are expensive
This school in its prime seemed lit. Bowling Alley?
I assume a big reason for this is that bowling alleys were segregated when the campus one was built.
Is it that unusual? My school had one too.
Xezlec if u didn't have some bowling alleys around school then it's common to have them in the school. But most schools have a bunch around them so no need to have them in the school.
Xezlec I think it's better to not have one in the school because your fees will go up for recreational cost.
Was a big 70s thing.
I work at a university. I could image that at one time this campus was full of life.
husky500cr no shit
husky500cr what do you think it would've been filled with lol
Don't have to work at a uni to know that 🤦🏽♀️😂
husky500cr
Did Mexican people trashed it now, US people?
Takes some time to find a new investor, bad neighborhood i guess...
Trump, bigger wall needed?
I accidentally found your videos. I just spent 10 hours watching your videos. I am so excited that I subscribed to your channel. these videos are so interesting thank you for making my day wonderful
I just got accepted there, full scholarship, I play piano. Where do we party?
Thank you! Says here I can get a free lunch. Cafeteria open today?
Yeah 19:57 the piano is on the stairs you can go take it for your dorm
That was hilarious. See you probably got accepted there cause you are so damn smart.
It's sad how much of that stuff in those buildings could had donated or sold before it got all destroyed... But anyways, great video as always! :)
looks just like my college dorm... beds are the same and I can guarantee my matress felt the same as the wire ones.
I guess you could say those dorms were pretty
LIT🔥🔥🔥
Davin Winter *Sarcastic Laughter*
Davin Winter 9
Davin Winter -- AHAHA I see what you did there
Davin Winter -- Hell yeah they sure were hot
Davin Winter l*drvbmdsj
At 17:25, it looks like 2 people with long hair sitting in front of the window to the far right. I know it's not, but it's is weird you mentioned that room was the cafeteria so would have had people sitting there. It's like a ghost image of the past
Amazing video! So upsetting to know all those older model computers and other older equipment will just sit in that campus and go down with the rest of the campus. Those things need to be put in a museum for future generations. All those beautiful pianos, so many of them. So upsetting!!! I actually went to tech school and learned on the very first apple computer. Well, I guess that tells my age. I truly enjoyed this video. So much history just left to decay. Thanks so much for the awesome video. You guys rock.
Amazing how much damage can happen in less than 2 years.
These buildings and its contents went from usable to completely unusable in 2 years. Pretty sad for this college, with all the financial trouble and all. Having their campus vandalized is probably the last thing they need.
The student center, I'm sure, was operational right until the end of the college's life, which would be May 2015. About a year and 8 months. The dorm was abandoned in December 2013. It's weird to think that I could have stayed in this dorm if I had gone to Knoxville College. It's also weird to consider that I've had the same car since these buildings were in active use.
January 27, 2017 2:0 am
I agree, looks like 30.
You guys find some of the best abandoned places! This is amazing. Seems like it could have been made into apartments or something. Just saw the video y'all did of the Glass Bank in Cocoa Beach. I drove by it daily and always wondered what it looked like inside. Thanks for that video too. Too bad its gone now. Hope you guys had some pizza from the restaurant next to it. They were pretty good.
That is sick guys! I mean it's sad that there is so much Vandalism, but there are still some nice things (like the bowling shoes), love it! I've visited a lot of different places but so far no College so thats really something new :D
The Proper People 13:00 Every youtube explorer upon seeing stairs leading to a basement: "Is there like a tunnel system?". Love your guys' work!!
Highlight of the night is watching one of these fantastic Properly done videos fresh. Thanks for the polish you put in your urbex, guys.
It is amazing how things go down bad once you abandon them...buildings friends families relationships......you have to work each day for what is important to you
The floor wasn’t on fire. The mattresses were on fire filling the floor with smoke to the line on the wall. A flash over is when that happens as anything flammable gets to ignition point it will flash over.
You don't remember Wolfenstein 3D? Dang whippersnappers.
PhattyMo not heard that word in years lol 😂
This.
PhattyMo
Wolfenstein 3D in 2019???
You have a family now, grand children?
enjoyed both parts, my favorite was the science building nice to see all that glass not vandalized, and see all the old computers especially that apple 2 I remember those from elementary school playing Oregon trail!
Went here many times and still see new things every time visiting
Mostly likely those doors are fire doors. They are meant to keep fire from spreading. Hospitals, dorms, hotels all have them.
You should go to Santa Fe University of Art And Design, I went there in 2006 but it was called the college of Santa Fe then. But it’s since been abandoned and apparently the third floor of King Hall dorm is haunted. It would be so cool if y’all did an episode on that place. It’s only been abandoned a year tho :/ but pictures online show how it looks like a ghost town now.
so much awesome stuff that could have been salvaged prior to vandals. So sad!
17:18 "Let there be light" Okay. **Sets fire**
A "Let there be light" sign next to the room that got damaged the most by fire.. how ironic lol
One of you guys: /Sniffling a lot/
Me, who has a cold: Same.
That's cocaine drip
"Young and Gay: Protect Yourself From HIV."
That made me laugh more than it should have. I need one of those pamphlets.
Found in a christian dorm, what a surprise, lol It's meant to educate kids about stds though.
@@harshnemesis many christian denominations have no issues with the LGTBA. just an fyi.
It's always amazing to me the restraint Michael and Bryan show in not using jump scares or the like in these videos. I mean, I know that isn't the intent or what they do but any of these videos, any of the footage could easily be converted into a found footage thriller/horror movie
I graduated from The University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 2010, and I had no idea this college even existed!
Hardly anyone knew it existed evidently. Enrollment was limited.
I know this video is 3 years old now, but the round room was probably a carousel theater! The nearby University of Tennessee has one that is a bit larger and is very popular for performances. Regular chairs are set up in the surrounding circles, varying on how much space the performers need. Round theaters make for a very interesting theater experience!
Another great video guys!
I laughed when you said student would take all of their stuff. They've spent a semester, maybe years collecting stuff; but in the end, they only have their car to carry things away. A lot of stuff gets abandoned. But in this case, you were right. They might have been under a threat of no return deposit if they didn't clear out.
3:34
Fire Alarm: Most likely a simplex 4051 on a Space Age Electronics light plate. Pull station may be an Autocall variant.
What a great place to explore! Thanks for both videos! Just remember that there is a difference between fire damage and smoke damage. Smoke damage can occur far from the source of the fire as the smoke fills up in confined areas.
The University where I earned two Master's degrees closed suddenly two years ago. Students were given ten day's notice to get their transcripts, after which time all the records were destroyed/deleted. I was out of the country at the time this happened, and since my degrees dated back to 1976 and 1977, they were never put on computer. My notification came via USPS to what is now my nephew's house. They filed for bankruptcy and closed down, leaving furniture, office equipment, art work, everything abandoned. It's horribly wasteful. They should have auctioned off everything to pay their debts, especially since they have ceased making pension payments to their retirees and owe money to students who paid for an entire semester and received only half. The buildings are already broken in to, vandalized, and things of worth stolen.
The incredible history and artifacts left behind... so many things to that can be preserved to look back on... just sad 😞
Congratulations on your 400k subscribers! :D
12-30-2020, now it’s 1.17 million.
It's so sad to see so many great pianos go to waste Yamaha pianos are fantastic and the one that went down the stairs looked like it was a nice piano they even sounded almost in tune.
Enjoyed part 1. Looking forward to this one.
I grew up as a little kid hanging around a bowling alley. Seeing those pinsetters brought back memories.
You guys are lucky you can do this sort of thing, and now I really want to be an urban explorer but I live in the middle of nowhere so it's a little hard being an urban explorer lol
Hey guys greetings from the UK excellent video as an MD I'm concerned you are exploring a clearly dangerous building and you have not taken any precautions when it comes to safety all that aspestos you are breathing in will seriously affect your health and not wearing any safety footwear's I would hate to see you guys get injured all of us in the UK appreciate with you sharing your explorations! Stay safe and thanks again for all the work that goes into each adventure
I love your channel which never fails to impress me
Brittany Pennington same
It must be such a great experience to visit places like these. I don't have much of them in my area so you guys give me a dose of exploring spirit through videos. I love technology :D thank you so much! also, the intro song is bomb
1:01 - Be careful! You walked under that large broken triangular glass pane above, which isn't holding much to it! Final Destination! :D
There's an abandoned school in my town, that I used to go to like 10+ years ago. I really wanna go inside, but they completely blocked off all entrances. Aside from what appears to be a hole/drain that could potentially lead to the basement, although it's very narrow and blocked off by a gutter straight down the middle. No way I'm crawling in there.
I really enjoy your video's, and how you respect the buildings you go into. Thanks for not dropping the F bomb, like so many other young explorers do. Keep up the great work, and stay safe.
19:56 *Ambient Music Playing*
20:01 *Random Piano Key*
This channel is the best.
Next new hobby: collecting license plate holders from defunct schools and businesses!!
stuff like that would sell on ebay!
Number one thing I like about watching your video is too intro how you start the video with the music and then describing the place that you are exploring. Recently I've seen a video without the intro . With it didn't make me that excited to watch. But always enjoy watching your Channel. Keep up with the good work..
"Why are we fascinated by ice?"
"Because we're from Florida"
I resemble that comment...
I love that you guys visited this place! This has always been my favorite spot in Knoxville. And just for the record - the reason this place wasn’t really heard of is because it was the African American college of Knoxville. Built 100ish years ago BY THE STUDENTS! And people like Martin Luther king Jr and other black influential people visited the college and held speeches there for the students. The college suffered the fire in the 70s when someone (prob a racist pos) decided to throw malotovs into the building and then speed off. The fire destroyed the college. Then, because of lack of funding over the years it just failed... I love the history behind this building and if you look long enough you’ll find papers and records still lingering in teachers desks and filing cabinets that really give you an essence of the school in it’s prime. This place is truly a historic gem in Knoxville and I’m so sad it ended up as vandalized as it did over the years. Keep up the good work guys love your channel 👍🏻
25:07 - a Diamond Supra Express 336e External Fax/Modem for Mac!!!
Listen to that intro volume 100... You guys are awesome!
3:59 . . . Refrigeration unit just chillin'
The deterioration of the building is monumental.
Theres always that one oddly placed chair in every video
Yep, at least one.
Its like plungers and mannequins in a Bethesda Fallout game. You know they're going to be there.
Andrew Slone
Construction level people, take the Nespresso with them in Thermos, needing a place to drink it....
There’s a perfectly reasonable explanation for them. People set them up to take pictures. Either that, or every abandoned place is haunted. Probably the second choice, honestly.
10:25: I was waiting for the "chair chilling" remark. And was dissapointed.
How many levels or flights of stairs was there in the dorms?
I think about 15.
The Proper People hey Michael and Bryan can you respond to my comment
The Proper People what do you guys use to find these
you should try writing a comment worth responding to.
+losingmymind611 maybe you should be nicer
Great video guys! been waiting for this one, And congrats on 400k+ you deserve it and way more.
Knoxville College is a historically black liberal arts college in Knoxville, Tennessee, United States, which was founded in 1875 by the United Presbyterian Church of North America. It is a United Negro College Fund member school. A slow period of decline began in the 1970s, and by 2015, the school had an enrollment of just 11 students. In May 2015, the College suspended classes until Fall 2016 term in hopes of reorganizing, however the school did not reopen and remains indefinitely closed.
Best channel ever. Really enjoy how you give some history to the places you explore. Thanks for all you do to takes us with you.
Wolfenstein 3D .. Awesome :)
I went to see my great grandmas abandoned house and some weird things happened.
this is a great title for a creepypasta
Did you get touched?
I read online that the fire department responded to over thirty fire calls in a year to that campus, forcing the city to shutter most of the buildings off because they were such hazards.
I was able to sneak in there when I was in Atlanta last month I had no idea people would watch this, I just subscribed to your channel.
I just realized at 17:26 it says let there be light, that's fucking funny
To much light.
Lol bright light! Bright light! It's to much turn it off x3
That was their motto
I grew up in this city and never knew about this! I did get to explore Lakeshore though, before it was torn down. That place was creepy.
From local media story Jan 2018: "The school has filed paperwork with the Tennessee Higher Education Commission to begin teaching again and has plans to re-enroll students. Repairs have been made to at least one building, and administrators are again occupying space on campus." This story isn't over..
www.knoxvillecollege.edu/
You're underneath the stage. That elevator is a piano lift. It's used to swap out the pianos for different shows. The pianos are on casters so they roll easily
The Wolfenstein 3D box warmed the cockles of my heart.
Its nice seeing these places.. Just the history of it is enthralling to say the least
This looks like it was such a nice college in its heydey.
