yeah, its terrrrrrible. MAYBE a starting point, maybe. Id prefer watch live recording and mimicking. Its easier than trying to read between the lines of what other's say. There is far more nuance in the songs than that website allows for, and since the app came out they even block you from viewing the only useful information on the whole website, unless you download the app.... Such a shame.

The fact that they say "the key of A" and then immediately launch into chords in the major key of D cracks me up.

Talking from experience here, the first time using ultimate guitar is a blessing, you try out the songs and "it sounds right". Then years later when you know how to properly "hear the chords" and the right tune of the song you'd realize you've been using the wrong chord progression this whole time of that particular song.
don't listen to any nerd advice. learn the A minor pentatonic scale, basic open chords and power chords. the world is yours from there

You forgot the part where every transcriber unanimously decides that they should all classify it as “TABS,” so when you search all you can find is 97 chord versions of Through the Fire and Flames.
“Hey you know how the song is in the key of B major? I don’t feel like writing the accidentals next to the clef because I like how it looks when I have to write in the sharp symbol for almost every note.” is how I would imagine every person who makes stuff on musescore thinks.

It's arguably better for beginners because they don't have to memorize the sharps and flats of every key or constantly reference the clef to see which notes have sharps/flats.

To be clear: any minor chord can be replaced by pretty much any chord. That's something I did not know, thank you!
Minor means lesser, lesser chords are superceded by better ones

i felt this in my bones, someone did a half assed tab of a new Built to Spill song, I had to get aggressive with the moderators to give me my own version (which included 3-4 parts the original tab missed + corrections to the original)
Basically a few things going on:
1. If your version has overlap with an existing version, a moderator might just merge yours with the existing.
2. As a collaborator instead of author, you get less points overall, even if you added more to the song than the original author.
3. As a result, there's less incentive to fix existing, and more to create new versions, but that new version also needs to be different enough that some moderator doesn't merge it with the original.
It's a messy system, but it's what happens when it's set up more like Wikipedia and the points get you abilities to review new tabs for songs you might've never even heard before, and people will push them through anyway. It also means people who write the first tab for a new song, no matter how weak, have the best chances of their version being the primary that gets updated too.

My own two cents on this - I once spent over an hour making one of these on UG, mostly cause it was an obscure song and I wanted a reference for myself -
I submitted it to the site, and found that during the approval process, a site moderator had completely changed a bunch of chords and their timing in the song, so it now sounded like total crap.

Gus' videos are getting increasingly more niche, yet I somehow fit the target audience of every single one
When you try learn 'under the bridge' by RHCPs, but following the first few chords gives you something more akin to the start of 'dueling banjos' from deliverance...

This is the most specific relatable sh**. It's like making a dumb dream about that youtuber Gus johnson who would make a video on how bad chords progressions sometimes are on ultimate guitar
I spent a long time as a tab moderator on UG, i.e. the people who check and approve the tabs before they go on the site. Obviously we don't check stuff for musical accuracy, but damn, you should seen the stuff we rejected.

They are totally not accurate & because I'm someone who play by ear & not by reading chords, I always could hear the difference. All those years because I don't read chords, people who do kept telling me I was the wrong one & never listen to a single thing I said.
