If you are going to buy or build a lifted truck you need to watch this video! Today we cover 5 things you need to know before buying a lifted Truck! As we drive the SCA Performance Apex, we show you the difference in a stock F-150 versus a lifted F150. The first thing you need to remember is that when you lift a Ford F-150 you will need to retorque the suspension after about 5,000 miles.

Also think long and hard (heh) about the type of lift you want. Keep in mind that lifts of certain heights or certian styles of lifts will require other work to be done to the vehicle, or may damage the vehicle if not prepared for properly. some examples:
-at least in my experience, lifting above 2.5" without any mechanism for correcting front axle CV angles or upper control arm (UCA) ball joint angles will increase wear and tear and could cause eventual parts failure; this is why 4" and higher lifts usually include differential drop brackets and new steering knuckles, and some 3" lifts will come with improved UCAs
-4" and higher lifts with new crossmembers require you to CUT THE TRUCK'S FRAME, i.e. you are stuck with that lift kit unless you can weld your frame back together
-you may need to get longer brake lines if you are not comfortable with using the brake line extension brackets (some adjusting of the hard metal lines may be required, which makes me nervous, personally)
just a few extra things to think about
Just bought 3" Lifted dodge ram 1500 hemi 5,7 l V8 in Germany. From a Good Company which documented everything. Runs great. Now big wheels very nice. Greetings. Your Channel helped a lot to find a truck in Germany. Very Good Information From you :)
Love your custom sales. And just to add to that, overall vehicle height, and driver perception is very important when considering the purchase of a lifted vehicle.
I swear. I live in Southern California. Your videos, especially this one makes me want to fly over and buy an F150 from you guys and only deal with you guys directly! TT..TT
JoMonki living in California makes us realize how expensive trucks are here
I agree in fact before I buy my next one I will be checking into the logistics of it
The worst part is when the fucking Ram 1500 is built 1 mile away from your house and the dealership is 1.8 miles away from home and still pay 1400$ destination charge 😳😳😳
@@ervinzefi8662
Lol. True they should give counties that the factories are built in like $140 destination charge.
Then they should charge Alaska and Hawaii $2400
Hi Fern. This truck is $12,0000.00 USD in New Zealand.
Love your presentation, clear and detail - plus ROLL TIDE
This a great informational video in all the years I’ve been around 4x4’s nobody ever paid much attention to the off set etc, even though any knowledgeable person understood those factors. Nowadays with 35’s and large wheels being normal this information is crucial.
Thanks man! Glad you liked the video!
That was awesome to talk about. Very informative about what you getting into.
I am thinking about getting a lifted truck and watching videos on CZcams all week to get more information to see if it’s a great idea.
Fantastic review keep up the good work made everything very clearly understandable
Did you not even watch this video?
Very eloquent and easy to understand! Great presentation! Would like to talk to y'all about my 2020 FX4, Roll Tide!
I learned my lesson years ago. Ball joints wear out all the time. Front ends wear out much faster. After 10 years of driving a truck with 6 inch lift and 35s I was jumping for joy to get back into a factory stock truck!!! Factory drives so much better, lots more power, better gas mileage, no ball joint eating every year.
True everything said. I still like slightly tougher stance and look than stock so 2" leaving kit with Fox shocks/ struts and 33" tires nice compromise. No issues at all compared to real lift.

I bought an f150 with the procomp lift on it and I hate the turn radius. Now I know why. Thanks!
Can you do a video about the new FordPass Smartlink adapter? I'd love to learn more about it! Thanks!
Good to see you again in a Video Mitchell.
Thanks. Just got my first p/u and wanting to do a lift.
I'm more of a Toyo tire type of guy for over 10 years and there great never had a problem
Great video man!
Nice info cause I drive lifted a suburban ltz on 20.so this helped out.
I have a 1996 Ford F-150 regular cab I have a 4inch lift on it and it’s wheels I love there fuel vapors
replace "all" of the suspension....cute, ive seen some shoddy work come in for alignments
Good Video... very informative!!
Great video! A couple observations,1 st off if you are towing a 9 k lb bobcat every day ,an F150 is the wrong truck. The 5.0 is gutless down low, lifting one makes the poor low end more of an issue, if performance is important with a lifted truck get an ecoboost. and don’t look back. If fuel economy is important to you do not lift your truck. The do not go together at all.
John DiMartino The 2018 5.0s aren’t gutless down low
John DiMartino my 2016 5.0 is lifted with 8 inch up front and 6 inch in the rear on 35’s (10 ply) with factory upgraded 355 gears. It’s far from gutless, and yea the eco boost will out pull me, but dat 5.0 coyote with Borla attack series just sounds sooooo much better than that v6 lol, and I still get 12- 14 mpg loaded, 19-21 unloaded on a trip.
LSandViper Killer if they aren’t I apologize, the one I drove before I bought my Ecoboost was relatively sluggish until the tach was over 3500.TheGM 5.3 and Ram Hemi I tested both had much wider power bands with more torque down low.Once wound up the 5.0 was great , if I was 25 again I have have went wit the 5.0 ,because it sounds great and revs like a Mustang....
John DiMartino Lol, are you being honest? Because the 5.3 doesn’t have more down low grunt than anything. The 5.3 is utterly gutless, and absolutely makes less low end than the 5.0, especially the 2018.
The Hemi power band is actually very similar to the 5.0s.
All of these new V8 engines are revvers than than don’t “come on cam” until 3500+, but the 5.3 having more low end? Not even close
Robert Not even close. The 5.3s low end is non-existent.
Just bought my 1st lifted truck for 9k after this video, thank for all the tips n everything
What did you buy?
I worked at a off-road truck shop , honestly I’m a fan of leveling kits they are easy to remove , install you can easily get one done for 500 with a alignment compared to spending 5k plus on a suspension lift with wheels tires . They maintain factory ride for the most part just my opinion. Lifts these days are all don’t for looks anyways , and never seen see a piece of dirt lol.
I’ve got my 2019 King Ranch leveled 2.5” on 33.94 Nitto Ridge Grapplers on the stock 20” KR wheels. I still feel jealous when I set trucks lifted 6” with offset tires. Makes me feel better to see this comment.
I just took KO2 off my truck that were 33 inch. They had 45000 km and warn perfect. They still have nice tread left. Just put bigger tires on.
Great video! Question: Do you need to get everything torqued again after a level kit install like you mentioned needing to be done after 5K miles on a lift kit? Also, do you need to have an alignment done after installing a level kit, as recommended after installing a lift kit? Thank you
Just to note- “larger offset” doesn’t mean what you think it does. Just something I see a lot in the truck markets. Good video info for newbies though!
Speaking from experience... owning several lifted vehicles over the years. Plus a 2017 F250 lifted on 37s, and now a 2018 F150 lifted 6" with 35s... I'll take the lifted F150 Ecoboost on 35s all day long. Handles great, fits most every car wash and parking garage. the lifted F250 was too much and hard to fit anywhere.
Ask for discounts and shop around. I got a new 6" BDS coilover lift kit w/ 35" Nittos, and 20" Fuel Contra wheels. All for $7400 after taxes and installed. Not bad.
Looking to lower my 2017 F350 fx4 Lariat diesel. I tow a 2017 5th wheel camper and don't want to lift it to level it. The camper sits 3 inches higher measured from forward most frame to ground compared to farthest rear frame to ground.
Hitched up, there is about 5 1/2 inches
bed rail to camper clerance. About a 2
inch drop for truck would be great. All suggestions are welcome.
This was awesome thank you.
Toyo Open Country R/T tires. Best in the business.
Last week, I got RC6” lift kit and 20” wheel and Falken wildpeak at3w 35” tall tire on 2.7 ecoboost 19. And my fuel economy is just cut in half now. 5-6km per liter or 20L/100km, on the highway just a bit better than that. I think the reason is why it’s all that happen because 2.7 is not enough power to spin tires. I would’ve gone with 5.0L V8. What do you think guys?
If you get the max tow package it only comes with the 3.5 L and it only comes with a 355 gear ratio.
I think the mud terrain tires aren't really all that bad. I've had my mud terrain tires for 4 years and 50k on them, and I finally need a replacement set. They're hankook dynapro mud terrain, and I didn't rotate them nearly as frequently as I should have. The noise is pretty loud though, but I did get good life out of them, would have gotten more if I would have treated them better. All in all not the nightmare everyone makes them out to be. Handle great in the snow, hardly ever used them for what they were intended for.
Awesome video
The video is right on time. I was planning to do a 2" lift kit on my F150, 2011. It scares me to screw up my truck.
Same
What about 3.31 gear ration with 3.5 ECO with a 6” kit? Those are the specs on my 18 limited. I wont be doing much towing over 5K and even that will be occasional. Any issues to consider? Great video btw!
That’s good to know. I love lifted trucks, but I rather buy it already done. And since I know I’ll never pull anything, my tires will last a very long time. I love F-150’s.
When I bought my 2020 f150 truck I didn’t think to look to see if it had electronic lockers. Is this something I can add and have stock controls?
great video...thanks!
Would I have to worry about these if I just put a 2 inch leveling kit in the front of a 2015 f150
What do you personally recommend as a first new truck under 40k? Thank you.
I have a 2015 3.5 and I'm looking at at a 4 inch lift and 35s. I have 3.55s and occasionally tow a 20 foot boat. Is it worth the upgrade to 3.73s or 4.10s?
Hello, I bought my truck two months ago but I did not know that need to retorque was necessary until someone told me now, someone can tell me what type of retorque need so that I can take it on the shop and request that proper maintenance.
I plan on putting a 4inch fabtech lift on a 2017 platinum. I want to use the OEM wheels and 35inch tire. nitto makes a 35x11.50R20. Can i use that tire and OEM 20inch rim with out rubbing? or should I add a 1/4Inch wheel spacer for the front?
Good points to consider.
Looking at buying 33 inch tires and rims package any suggestions
Worked with a guy who put on a lift in his garage and could not back out once installed... dummy should have just deflated his tires instead of removing the lift to get out then reinstalling... pft! chevy owners!
jadd6810 lllmmmmfffffaaaaooòo
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Sounds like someone I know. Lol
Lol....
Chevy owners, AM I RIGHT
My friend change a strut on his vehicle and that VOID the warranty. Manufactures are becoming super strict. I have heard stories of people being harassed in some states over laws dealing with lifted vehicles along with how the exhaust is routed...like Washington state for instance.
What do you think about F250 Tremor it's already lifted 2 inches? I thinking to buy Limited
Is it every 5000 miles that the lift should be torqued and if not how often should a lift be torqued?
Do i need to regear my 2010 sierra if i do a 3 inch and 33's?
If I lift my truck do I need to buy 5 tires/rims to account for the lift
Super helpful.
Great Information...
What was the brand and size of the tire you have on your truck?
Is there anyway I can improve my turn radius with a pro comp lift
Those 5 things plus....the other things folks don't think about.....parking garage heights, car washes, and your garage door height. Even a mild lift won't let an f150 fit height wise in most residential garages.
klc317 correct I got a a raptor and it is slightly taller than the normal raptors standing at nearly 6f10 and some places I can’t even enter plus the width of the truck is obnoxious with fiberglass
Those are issues to consider...
klc317 yeah if I’m ever using one of my trucks to go somewhere I always check how tall the garages are or if an open lot is nearby
Oh yeah. I had to mod my garage door to fit mine in. So if I want bigger tires or even a level, I’ll have to park it outside.
Mine is stock height with 33s and it barely fits in the garage
Great info. 👍
I love my ko2 tires
how comfy is the BFG AT KO2 compared to Nitto ridge grappler? I'm having the 35 Nitto trail grappler and it's ok on the road, but just thinking about more comfortable tire next time.
I personally thought this was a great video! 👍
The more the tires stick out. The better chance of having stuff slinging up the side of your brand new truck. Tearing the paint all up.
Brooke Wallace 🤦♂️
Mud flaps my man
@@410kane mud flaps don't work when the wheels are spaced out
Mudflaps work because the tire is inside not outside the truck
@@Blessedup69 that's what rally guard mudflaps are for. They stick out past stock ones
It's a lifted truck, your supposed to have stuff slinging up on the side.
A lot of people don't realize that the more negative offset you have on your rims the harder it is on your front end components. Imagine having a ten pound weight on the end of a 4 foot 2x4. When holding the 2x4, the closer you are to the weight, the easier it is to lift. I would not advise having anymore negative offset than is needed to clear your lift components.
Does this apply to leveling a truck?
Off topic: But why do the new F-150's not come with pre-installed oil separators?
Any experience with air lift suspension?
3.31 gear ratio ok for 6 inch lift and 35 inch tires?
The best truck is a stock truck. I have never driven a lifted truck (no matter how good or expensive the lift and wheels are) that actually drives well or at least close to factory. When I was buying my Tundra CrewMax the sales guy was soo annoying with his attempt to add on sales. Kept trying to convince me to buy a lift and wheel package from them. I just told him that if I wanted a truck for heavy off-road I’d just buy a Raptor. As it is, I love my truck for my use. Drives like a caddy in stock form.
I’m a stupid kid that got a lifted dodge off some roofer… tones of problems and it’s my first car 8” lift 37” tires. I heard it’s common to have a little tug to the right. I’m a forest guy not a mechanic. Any tips for a newbie
0:26 is that rusty shaft a portal axle?
The title should be what to look out for when buying a new lifted f150.
35x12.5x20 federal couragias on a 10 f150
Wish you were in Dallas!
Forgot the fact that you will need new maintenance tools (i.e. carjack, lug-wrench, etc). Most likely Ford's original kit won't work after a lift kit and new wheels. Need to figure out where to put a new spare tire too. The original spare tire won't work. Not to mention you need to re-calibrate the headlights & speedometer. Prob a good idea to add "towing" to your insurance if you don't have any good tools in a bad situation.
How about general tires?
The 10 speed was available in 2017 with the 3.5L EB
I want that truck with a 4.11 Gear ratio honestly... screw 3.55 and 3.73
I think you meant 4.10's
Trucks a great but I’d rather buy a truck like a king ranch or something more high end then lift it and do lift and tires my self I have 2 lifted trucks one being a obs F-150 actually a 1996 lifted 6inches with 20x12 tis wraped In toyo mt. It’s going to be my show truck/weekend driver only thing is it’s not so fast because it has a old reliable 300 i6 5 speed. My other is a 13 F-150 with a 3.5 6 inch lift with 20x10 fuels wrapped in general grabber at2 which I’m switching to toyo soon as I can I don’t care for the generals. Something else that will help the trucks slapping a programmer on Ive got a mbrp exhaust on mine and I’m about to get a programmer too it helps a lot from what I have heard little quicker boost for better take off esp when towing
I am installing a set of 5100 Bilstein shocks and going with 35x12.5x20 my question is do I need to re gear since I’m not going with an actual lift? 2017 Ford F-150 5.0
Frank Perez Not really ...
its actually a negative offset not a "larger", just annotate it in case someone gets confused. Also nice vid ;)
If you're not doing a -44 offset, then you are not doing it right
I think offset is just designed to confuse people. Measuring by rim width and backspacing makes so much more sense. A 10 inch wide wheel with a 4.5" backspacing will protrude 5.5" past the wheel mounting surface. So much easier than mixing mm from center of wheel with wheel widths in inches.
The gear ratio tips are off not to bash the guy but you dont just say yes 3.73 gears because im towing your tire size is huge in this throwing 37s on 3.73 will destroy your ring and pinion . if youre thinking gears look up bleepingjeeps how to select gear ratio
How much does it cost to retorque your truck?
Guys I want to put a 3" lift on my 2005 Toyota Tacoma will I have to do the retorquing if I've only put on a 3" lift or do you only have to do that with the 6? any help will be appreciated!
Do need to recaberlatr the speedometer
Hey bro was wondering, can 3.31s be sufficient enough for a 17 3.5eco with 6in lift and 35s or do i need to re-gear? The 3.31 does struggle a lil in acceleration.
michael peralta I would regear if going over a 33. Take new tire size divided by old tire size and add to you gear ratio
I have 3.73 in my bronco II with 31 inch tires......and it is SLOW
With those 35” + tires along with aftermarket bumpers to fit, you have to cut or remove the crashbars up front. What your guys’ take on that?.?.
We believe it is personal preference. To some people, they don’t care about the crash bars... they only care about approach angles and getting a massive truck. If crash bars are important to you, we have the Roush Off-Road F-150 that leaves crash bars intact.
QUESTION: I am looking at a 2016 Silverado 1500 with the v8 6spd. This truck is at a dealership and has a 6inch lift with 35" tires.. how can I tell if it has the correct gears in it? I think this configuration for this truck calls for a 4.11 or even a 4.56 ratio. But how can I tell if the truck has the new gears of the dealership doesn't know? Please reply asap. Thank you
Run a Vin check? I do believe it should be listed.
what about the lifetime of the axles with a 3.5" lift for a 4x4 truck? also what would you recommend for reliability the 3.5" lift or just a regular levelling kit
Frank Mazzaferro any answer?

About time you make a video lol what about 2020 model f250s ????
I like this guy he know his trucks! ROLL TIDE!!!!!!!!!!
Quitajah Colvin RTR!!!
If you're putting 35s or above change the gears. Seriously, aside from cost, I don't know why more people don't talk about this. I'm running 37s with 4.88s and my 2014 5.0 and is right at factory whp and gets 15 mpg at 80 mph. I can't imagine how much the truck would struggle with stock gears or even how much wear and tear on the transmission the extra stress would cause.
Hey Mitch. I have a 2017 F150 5.0 4WD STX. I have the 3.31 gear Ratio, 6 speed. 2 Inch leveling. Some people say if I regear go with the 3.55, I am really interested with the 3.73.
Biggest tire I would go is a 285/65R20. I plan on doing both Off roading and Towing some times. But, I don't want to lose to much gas mileage. So should I go with the 3.73 on the Super 8.8 rear axle and front axle?
If you are concerned about MPG I wouldn’t go with 3.73. But if all you care about is acceleration and power, I’d do the 3.73
Do a video on the cars being out of production
