    While pundits will say we’ve been getting much of the same - variations on a theme, if you will, from Aston Martin for the last decade - this DB11 marks a new era for the company.
    As Aston CEO Andy Palmer is wont to say as of late, the DB11 is the first new car under the company’s Second Century plan. And, if I’m honest, this car fits that notion to a T. Simply put, the DB11 is light years ahead of anything in the current lineup.
    It takes everything good about Aston Martins - design, craftsmanship, performance - and dials it up to eleven. Yes, I just wrote that, but it’s true. If DB9 were the jumping off point, then yes, this DB has jumped ahead two full stops.
    It’s much more than I expected and only a sports car maker like Aston Martin could pull off the kind of clever engineering found throughout the DB11.
    The DB11 is intended to be a gentleman’s grand tourer and as such, any aerodynamic treatments are subtle, at least visually. What they lack in a brash appearance, they make up for in their clever design.

    It was the DB9 that made me fall in love with Aston so that car will always have a little fridge in the cool wall that is my heart. That said the DB11, from all I've seen so far, is more than a worthy successor to what I believe to be the perfect car.
    Like he said though, I wish they'd kept the crystal key.

    • @jimj2683
      @jimj2683 Před 2 lety

      I wish they just evolved the DB9 like Porsche evolves the 911 to always look modern and beautiful. The DB11 just looks too shouty. If I want a shouty car I will buy a Ferrari or Lamborghini.

      Charlie Chetwood not so fantastic, cheaply made interior, very bad handling especially in the wet. Terrible visibility, fake inside engine noise, no glove box, drones on long journeys.

      Thanks, Nikki. There's a good chance we'll have a go with one for an extended period of time, kinda like what we did with the DB9 GT. There's still so much to tell about the DB11 and this one was nearly ten minutes long. I'd need another ten to do a thorough job.

      Maybe in November. It depends if a press car is available and if I can book some time off to film it. Brian was solo this trip so he had to maximize what he could do on his own mixed with some OEM provided B-roll.

      Haha thanks. Its been a while since I have shot one with Brian. The 675LT review was the last one I had a big hand in. I would like to do a proper film on the DB11 just like the one I shot of the DB9 last fall. The stars kind of need to align for those higher production 4K videos to happen. Basically we need an overlap of car availability, my time off work and an excuse to be in Cali.

    Brian which car you rather take home Contenintal GT Speed or the DB11 ? which car you feel it's better screwed and put together with more solid feel ??

    • @BrianMakse
      @BrianMakse  Před 7 lety

      Well, that's a loaded question. The DB11 is literally screwed and bonded together. That's how they assemble the aluminum platform. It's been a while since I've driven either of them. My heart is with the Aston, based on design, performance and exclusivity.

      It doesn't have an obvious button, though I'm sure there's a setting somewhere to raise it in order to clean it. Otherwise, it raises at 100 km/h in GT and 50 km/h in Sport and Sport + modes.

    Great review... except that I do wish to register one disagreement: You mention cylinder deactivation to improve emissions and fuel consumption but conclude with "but we don't care about that" (or something along those lines). I, for one, really *do* care about that. We often rail against restrictions that seem to be designed to rob us of fun and pleasure, yet companies like Aston Martin continue to make cars that are more powerful, more capable, and faster than ever. If they can do that while improving efficiency and reducing emissions *and* doing so imperceptibly, why wouldn't we embrace that?! Otherwise, keep up the great work, Brian. =)

  • @hgbsmart
    @hgbsmart Před 8 lety

    I wish you'd have said a bit more about the steering. Current-gen Astons are really the last bastion for the analog driver, and the move to electrically assisted steering feels like a harbinger of bad news for the rest of the lineup as its replacements are phased in over the next couple of years.
    Was it tactile? How was the feedback? I had the good fortune of driving a 15 V8V GT and the car felt positively alive, it was an incredible dance partner, has any of that been retained??

    • @BrianMakse
      @BrianMakse  Před 8 lety +3

      +hgbsmart there's not much to say, which is why I didn't get into it. Pressed for time at launch events like this and we try to cover the important bits.
      Steering is fantastic. Feels much like the DB9, actually. There's a small measure more feel with the V8V (just drove a 2017) but it's a different car, GT vs sports car. Regardless, feel and feedback and excellent in DB11.

      AM claimed a few weeks ago that they want to be the last sports car makers who is offering manuals for his sports cars. Since the DB11 is clearly a GT for long distance cruising a manual would probably make no sense.

    I don't like the new design. It's not ugly, but it isn't the timeless, free-flowing and classic car that the DB should be. The front is ok, the back has too much going on around the rear lights and the vents over the front wheels are ugly with the wheel-arch cut out..

      true, an Aston Martin shouldn't be looking all futuristic or modern.. it should be classy

      Have you seen one in real life? I think it looks very nice, much better than their other cars (which aren't necessarily bad-looking to begin with) over the last decade.

      I'm from Norway where you have to pay for the DB11 twice just in taxes which makes it extremly rare to see a car like that(we're talking 280 000£-370 000£) so no I havn't seen one. But I have seen an Vanquish and an Vantage and I tought they looked exactly as in videos - stunning :)

      Blubblego Yikes, that's very expensive indeed. I'm just thinking that this car seems, to me, to be one of those cars you have to see for yourself, in real life, before making judgments on the looks.

    2:58 Why do they keep putting light colours on top of the dashboard? They should be black by law. Look at the reflections, he can barely see out!

      You can't buy a new DB11 any longer, so what point are you trying to make?

    It cannot be as good as you say can it? Aston Martin have always made cool cars but have they lost the plot with this disegn?

      making questions. Hence the question marks. Question marks on brakes, behaviour in the wet, consumption and the already dated info system.
