Many people don't know this today, but Joe Rogan is one of the best kickers of all time in the MMA space. As a national US Taekwondo champion and a BJJ blackbelt, he could've become a high level MMA fighter if he wanted.
Instead, he became a host and podcaster. About 9 years ago, he gave me support when I had no audience. Along the way, he's given me support many times publicly and through messages too. When things got hard, it was his podcast and the guests he brought on that helped me get through so many moments.
Thank you Joe, for everything you've done. I hope that your light will continue to shine through for people to see.
What do you think about what happened with JRE recently?

@@complexblackness When the arguable P4P best MMA fighter of all time comes to you for advice on how to sharpen up his turning side-kick, you're probably a pretty good kicker for ANY space. I don't think he was insinuating he's used the kicks in an MMA match.

I came to the channel after mentioned by Joe….. I heard the podcast taken out of context and what was said wasn’t with malicious intent. It was using using the word instead of insinuating the word. If we started doing that with fluid genders imagine the outrage!

Muay Thai and Taekwondo is actually a really effective combination for striking focused Martial Art's. Muay Thai gives you very good infighting ability, combined with an effective defense against some of the primary weaknesses of Taekwondo in full-contact fighting, whilst TKD gives you great distance management (because you absolutely need this to ever pull kicks off even in sparring or point fighting) and a variety of long ranged options that you can use to exploit opponents as you re/engage. This is common even in Muay Thai sparring/fights, as fighters commonly break after an exchange, then return to infighting, so throwing out a good spinning back/sidekick which can absolutely end fights if the opponent walks onto it, but is useful even just as a tool to break guards or injure an opponent so you can re-enter their range with an advantage if you follow-up appropriately. Cyrus Washington has done this quite extensively within Muay Thai competition, and Muay Thai fighters have started to pick up longer ranged kicks in recent years.
If you throw some Boxing into this, you end up with an extremely well-rounded striking toolset. You can also replace TKD with Kyokushin somewhat, because Kyokushin has adopted many TKD style kick's, though it has less distance management, but makes up for that by teaching you how to high kick at extremely close range!

      @@robintang7304
If he trained for it, yeah, he was a pretty good athlete. If you just took Bruce as he was in his prime and threw him in the ring with someone like Demetrius Johnson he would 100% lose though, outside of puncher's chance of course. Bruce was cross-training in Martial Art's, but he wasn't a full contact fighter in regards to competitive experience, and he also had nowhere near the grappling to defend against a well-rounded MMA fighter, even if his striking was up to scratch, which is doubtful because most MMA fighters have more striking experience even at the lower levels. A mediocre pure wrestler would probably completely wreck him, let alone someone like DJ or TJ Dillashaw who are also great at stand-up.
Bruce would likely have loved MMA if he was born in the past few decades, but the same level of fighters just didn't exist back then, not only that but Bruce didn't fight in anything even resembling full-contact MMA. This is pretty much the same consensus anyone will give you, including professional fighters, if they are being objective and not blinded by the legend surrounding Bruce, which is very different to the man's actual capabilities.

Cancel culture's worst aspect is the disregard to allow people to grow from their mistakes and become better individuals. It literally pauses a person from growing. That's a huge problem! We need people to feel vulnerable and admitting their mistakes with a genuine want to be better instead of harassing them for being wrong in turn never allowing them to understand their mistakes. Otherwise more people will stop admitting their faults in fear of harassment. There's a difference between accountability and harassment.

The most underrepresented but imo one of the best techniques from tkd that can be used in other striking is the ability to kick and move back at the same time. Firing a rear leg while moving your front leg to where your rear foot was allows you to throw a hard kick move back without losing balance. It is very hard to do though and switches your stance which is a big no no for a lot of kickboxers but if you can get good at it, it's very useful for striking and maintaining distance.

Id love to learn a minimum of 3 martial arts, anywhere up to 8 of them , wow imagine a UFC fighter being able to do some of the things that people can do in taekwondo or certain wowza kicks in general

Well, there is Taekwondo where you do punches, leg strikes, leg sweps, take down and even knife fighting. And then there is Taekwondo imitation - an Olympic discipline with strict sparring rules ...

I'm going to say this, taekwondo won't work against me, but Joe Rogan's taekwondo will kill me from a stare.

  • @willtherealrustyschacklefo3812

I mean Joe does have some very powerful kicks, he's stout dude with some nice speed in them and his movement as well. tho His range of how and what he can do with them is not exactly what you would expect out of tae Kwon do, really reminds me more of a fast Muay Thai style almost than it does tkd with the exception of some of techniques he uses like the spinning and jump kicks(which he seems to avoid more of the really getting into the air with with it, which is tactically smart in most situations anyway) however for his body type he picked the better approach for him personally. Overall no complaints, legitimately impressed with his ability to use it especially some of the more flashy style kicks, takes alot more physical ability and training to make those work. He's definitely put some effort into training

Nah, this kicking skill was very common during a certain era of taekwondo---from about the mid 80's to the late 90's/very early 2000's. It's being called the "Power Era" now. I was lucky enough to have trained and competed during that time. The wild thing is as great as Joe's kicks are, there are many from that same era with even higher skill. Herb Perez was someone I patterned my kicking after. Danny Kim, Hyeon Lee... so many killers back then.

Mr. Joe is there anything that is just called a spin kick in TKD? Some jack-ass on CZcams was talking shit about How he knocks people out with a "Spin" kick I told him I never heard of a spin kick in any discipline! He told me I didn't know what I was talking about! Can you clear that up for me? Thanks!
