- On this episode of The Midnight Society, I look back at season 2, episode 10 of "Are You Afraid of the Dark?": The Tale of the Shiny Red Bicycle. Midnight Society member David laments his bicycle getting stolen by telling a tale about a teen being stalked by a ghost and its bicycle.

Much love for the Corn Whackies commercial @ 4:20
Haha! Thanks!
*This was the first episode that actually scared me when I was little seeing it for the first time.*
For you, what was the creepiest moment of the episode?
@@JackOfAllNerdsShow *just the fact it involves death & drowning, not a lot of the other episodes tackle that subject matter & drowning used to freak me out when I was a kid with how horrific it must be*
This episode killed my heart. One of the few that made me cry.
This is another episode I think inspired me "The sixth sense".
this episode scared the hell out of me as a kid
It really has some great creepy moments.
Corn whackies, Beth, zeebs.👍 & I agree with you about the writers mentioning stuff in the opening that didn’t always play out in the story🧐🤔
Yeah, I don't think it happens often, but when it does, I'm like, "WTF?"
i love the tale of the shiny red bicycle i just got though watching it yesterday its a good one to watch
Yes, it is a great episode! Such a good story there, with some really creepy moments.
This one was ALWAYS my favorite. Lonely Ghost (I'm cold) is second, and Dollmaker is third.
It's such a good episode! Solid story, great acting, and some genuinely creepy ghost scares.
@@JackOfAllNerdsShow Of course, you're funny af, too lol I was a dad in a past life as corny as I am, so you appeal to me. Was that an insult?
@@fairhairednative2 Haha, I'm not insulted. I definitely bring some dad-joke energy to these videos.
I think you meant Frozen Ghost. I got confused too.
Great analysis 👌 you earn my vote for best recaps of this show, and there are some good ones out there. Cheers!
Thanks!
This episode was a creepy ghost story full of creative scares and a creative twist, as well. I definitely like the emotional journey of both dealing with PTSD, as well as working to resolve past guilt. I too share in the scary, and funny, aspects, of the episode, as well as your vid! Great job! #AYAOTDFan
I gave you a special mention in the episode, though I don't actually believe you enjoy touching other people's things.
@@JackOfAllNerdsShow Lol! Thanks for the shout out, Jack! #Zeeb
What kind of railing falls off so easily like that? He barely even leaned against it before his bike fell in that channel.
For sure, the family of Ricky would've sued the city into the ground over that. There is no reason that accident should've happened.
This one was my favorite so scary to me as a kid
It's a good choice! It has some really unsettling moments with the ghost.
I'm 38 years old and still have my stuffed Littlefoot dinosaur i got it when i was 6 months old as my first Christmas gift it stayed on my bed ever since
I'd probably still have mine, but we got head lice in elementary school and rather than just wash our stuff, my mom threw everything out, including Little Foot. I stood out by the curbside trash can for a long time saying goodbye.
Corn Whackies!
Excuse me, insensitive to poor Ricky! All the same - Good review and I agree 90% with the review, though the caring supportive family and having a full breakfast are largely unlikely (yeah I’m jealous!). I didn’t think Ricky was scary - just sad, but at least, he was allowed to come back and help his best friend again. BTW, pent up wrath, much and no thanks on the Corn Wackies. Those muffins, though, I call dibs!
Oh for sure the family dynamic isn't realistic, just wholesome in that tv family kind of way. I never had family breakfasts like that either, so I think we are both jealous on that front.
And anger issues? Me? What ever are you talking about?
@@JackOfAllNerdsShow So says the man with the murder basement. :P Brings whole new emphasis to that phrase - "Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain..." :P Very well then, Mr. Saw... the fetid stench and "non-existant anger issues" will be ignored... for now. As for family breakfasts, well, I've never had one daily like that, but my grandparents and parents used to make elaborate ones for special holidays. The most elaborate is the Thanksgiving one - cold-cut meats, fresh fruit, veggies, deviled eggs, pork bacon, ham, toast, bagels, muffins, banana bread, and sometimes including pancakes, waffles, and even cupcakes. :P The lady from "The Tale of the Dream Machine" would have a field day at our family feasts. :P My husband and I however have taken up the practice, and neither of us can complain. ^_^
@@EmilyGloeggler7984 Oh come on! Having a murder basement doesn't mean I have a wrath problem. It just means you have unusual hobbies.
@@JackOfAllNerdsShow Suuuuuuuuurrrrrreeee. :P Anyway, solid work! Look forward to the episode following the next one, bro! :) It teaches what some already learn the hard way - DO NOT TRUST ANYONE, especially in ANY school, period; bring food from home; don't eat what slop the school feeds you; and bringing music and headphones and speakers is a must - as a singer and musician, I endorse that message. :)
@@EmilyGloeggler7984 Hahaha!
This was the saddest episode ever this made me cry as a kid it didn't scare me it just made me cry cause of what happened to Ricky
Yeah, this episode would be on a "best of the series" list for me. Some really great acting in this one.
@@JackOfAllNerdsShow yes the guy who played Mike was good at trying to deal with his childhood trauma of losing his best friend his brother Ben was also great as well
Where was this one filmed?
This has the least scariest title inthe whole series.😮💨
But, but.... but the whole ghost storyline is pointless. If the ghost hadn't been haunting him, his parents wouldn't have thought something was wrong with him. Also his brother would have been able to wake him up. So he would have been there when the thing the ghost warned him about happened and the story would have ended the same way. Did I miss something?
Haha, that is very true. Honestly a lot of shows and movies "pointless" storylines.
It's a big plot hole that can only be fixed with a bit of headcanon.
Ricky wanted to help Mike with his PTSD so he appeared as a ghost to talk to him, but he inadvertedly made things worse as Mike got sick. Then both Ricky and Mike found the chance to redeem themselves: Ricky warned Mike of his brother's predicament (which he unwillingly caused) and Mike eased his trauma. Two birds with one stone.
