      What " low velocity"? Low velocity is sub 500 fps

  • @patricj951
    @patricj951 Před rokem +1

    Oh, 700+ fps is still considered as low speed with airgun! I did not know that. In Sweden the strongest license free air gun is about 460fps with 15,4 grain pellet.
    The result with that speed would be interesting to see.

    Very informative video - I would like to seen the same test for the those exact slugs also done at double the fpe ie 52-55fpe to see the difference in expansion.I shot my first knockouts at 32fpe with no expnsion. Now I shoot them at approx 56fpe and boy do they whack and mushroom exceptionally well. Same slug, 2 speeds = totally different results.

    What's up bro?! Sorry it took me till now to watch your video, but I've had a bunch of crap going on lately!
    I was thinking about this video, & it was a great idea to do the low power & high power tests separately! I think this video will help a lot of people! ...I might be wrong about this, but I think more people out there are using budget pcps or break barrels, shooting at lower velocities.

    • @dangolwinner

      @GotDave?- No worries man! Thanks for commenting all the time! I agree with your thinking about most people having lower powered rifles. I will do the same type of test in .25 and .30 cal. It’s supposed to snow almost 2 feet tonight and tomorrow so I won’t get to the high velocity video for another week, but I’m excited to see how the slugs and pellets perform in the gel at high velocities!

    Interesting , so I would use the slugs with least expansion on coyote head shots. The softer full expansion slugs on behind the shoulder for a lung shot.
    The pellet test the least expansion would be good on bone to trigger expansion, the high expansion on soft small target so less pass through for background safety.

    • @dangolwinner
      @dangolwinner  Před 3 lety +1

      @Roger Armendariz- Great use of the info and your statement is well put! The softer the ammo the better for small game and the harder the slugs the better for penetrating skulls or meat to get to the heart 👍🏻

  • @stedyone1090
    @stedyone1090 Před 3 lety +1

    I could be wrong, but at lower speeds the 2 slugs that expand the most are also the most expensive. ??
    But some slugs are more accurate at higher speeds and also perform better with more fpe.
    Another issue is what diameter slug performs best in your barrel??
    If that's not enough there are a large quantity of different weights to choose from.
    Awesome testing. Lots of info.
    Very nice 👌👍

    • @dangolwinner
      @dangolwinner  Před 3 lety

      @Stedy One- you are half correct on the price, the VKs cost as much as the hybrids. The javelins are twice the value of both- 200 slugs for $18. You are correct with the slug size in regards to the barrel. Lots of options in .22 cal

    Love the ballistic gel test, would love to get my hands on the varmint knockers, the Javelins performed the best in my clay tests, I was hitting a bit harder with the higher velocity so it is brilliant to see them perform as good on low velocity, the KO's were the 2nd best at high speed. +- 900 fps to 950fps. Very interesting indeed. How is the accuracy on the Varmint knockers?

    • @dangolwinner
      @dangolwinner  Před 3 lety +1

      @Aim Small- Thanks! I have had great success with accuracy using the Varmint Knockers. I use the 700mm slug liner A and in my Wildcat and I shoot them at 1015 fps. They will group sub moa at 100 yards and the farthest kill was at 176 yards on a prarie dog and I got it on camera! I really like the Javelins too, and they are a bit cheaper than the Varmint Knockers. With the Varmint Knockers, only the 22 gr has the extra large hollow point and with the Javelins there are a few more options with weight. I watched your clay testing and I enjoyed it! It looked like there was a lot of effort that went into it! I like the style of your videos and they way you edit them, great job and I have been watching your channel for months.

    I am getting ready to start a series called”The Blind” where I test different air guns and ammo and will use a new system I have invented to recycle pellets and slug lead back into cupped or non cupped slugs with the ability to choose custom weights and hollow point diameter and depth. I will be showing the system in the series and putting my cast ammo against popular and widely used pellets and slugs on the market as the baseline. If enough Interest develops I might offer to the airgun community. It saves a ton of money and just makes sense. I hope you will come visit me in the blind and see what I have to share.

      @dangolwinner  Před 3 lety

      @Sam Houston- That sounds pretty interesting. With all the ammo choices available now, I thing there’s a lot of air gunners who want to see the difference in performance between them all. Sounds like something I’d watch 👍🏻 When demonstrating ammo in a heads up comparison, the results speak for them self!

      @Johnny Venturino- In my testing that I’ve done using ballistic gel, they don’t expand too well compared to other slugs. You would need to be shooting them over 1000fps to get them to expand. The NSA slugs are a great economical choice to see if your setup will shoot them well and they expand at 880fps and up. The Hades and Polymags are an excellent choice for any kind of shooting out to 80 yards and they dump a lot of energy into live targets!

Up your muzzle velocity to the upper 900's and bring your target a little closer 25-35 yds and I think you would have seen more expansion on many of these ammo options.
