- Hey everyone in this video we successfully put a 440cc 2 cylinder 2 stroke engine from a arctic cat on a homemade motorcycle I built awhile ago! the thing definitely needs a carburetor tune-up until she can really rip! If you like this project be sure to check out my channel for even more cool stuff such as motorized bikes, go karts, gas scooters, minibikes, ATV's and of course motorcycles!
Thanks for watching,
Oliver Motorized - Zábava
I appreciate all the feedback (specifically about the expansion chamber)! That's why I love youtube! I will put it back on ASAP just have to figure out how/where. In the mean time, submit a video/picture of your projects so I can put them in the next video! E-mail in the description
I love the mad Max look of the bike and would almost keep the brakes where they are
That's what I came to say but you already know about the exhaust lol
HAHA didnt saw this comment when I wrote mine :)
Yeah you REALLY need a proper exhaust on a 2-stroke engine. Check out Colin Furze's channel for an how-to on making these using a pressure washer :) ----> Pretty much welding two flat and thin plates together at the edges and expand it with high pressure water !
Nice project :)

@@asfodhell Best is to use original. If chamber is not right size it wont work eather.
Use the stock exaust the expansion chamber is a game changer
Aidan Flis you got it bud
Exactly what I was thinking
Definitely it needs the back pressure to reach its max power
Lol...back pressure. Tell that to ALL the guys running open headers on their HIGHLY tuned drag cars. Whadda they know other than going stright? 🤣 2 strokes need a saxaphone aka tuned pipe or expansion chamber to rebound the pulses that spit unburned fuel out back into the exhaust port.. Its intrinsic to the design of having no valves.
wont be able to hold the front end down !!!
You need that expansion chamber on their that’s why it runs like crap. Looking great though
aksu neither two strokes or four strokes require back pressure. Stop perpetuating myths lol. The motor is running fine, it sounds like it was tuned for one forsure, but that can all be fixed with carb work. The expansion chamber harnesses exhaust pulses and sound waves, nothing to do with bAcK pReSsUrE.
Well No but it dose take way the power band keep mind that many of older 50's thru 80's only had straight exhaust but plug end cap with smaller size like 1/2" to 1" pipe output should help be able to gain some that back with out being a crazy motor
@@SHSPVR none of that made sense. This is a 2 stroke engine, the expansion chamber cones reflect and focus sound waves in the exhaust back towards the cylinder to keep the fuel/air mixture from escaping into the exhaust at certain RPM and being wasted. That's why 2 stroke dirt bikes and quads seemingly take off like a rocket when you reach a certain RPM and "get on the pipe". Power valves or exhaust valves in the cylinder can modify this behavior. The cones in an expansion chamber are tuned to a particular cylinder because of the "port timing". I quoted key words for you to google.
@@charlesgunzelman3323 Correct. without the proper chamber power and fuel consumption will suffer.
@@charlesgunzelman3323 Maybe you should try look at early 70's motorcycle like a Suzuki TS250, T250 or T-250 II hell even the old Kawasaki widowmaker and puppy one wicked ass bike that had little to no expansion chamber hell even chain saw, week eater have no expansion chamber wake up buddy, port timing should ready be max base on it bore and stroke.
NIce job! I'm glad you had fun laughing your ass off going down the road at 65mph...I think I saw you pass Mad Max on the shoulder. Remember these skills; you will need them following the apocalypse.
Frank Schuler lol I’ll be the guy with the silver spray paint
You will have almost double the power with a good calculated exhaust pipe.
@@ingest-a-satchel-of-richards with a good calculated pipe it can be 40% more powerfull than just a straight piece of tubing

poor performance, way too noisy, looks like crap ... i love it
The exhaust system is a piece of crap
Mod the original exhaust to it you will make so much more power with the expansion chamber
Yep he screwed the pooch when he chopped the expansion chamber for sure.
I will definitely put it back on! thanks for the comment!
@@OliverMotorized make sure you keep the same dimensions of the pipe, if you make a pie cut to move the chamber somewhere, only cut half the pipe, add the piece back to the other side so you don't change any lengths, only angles.
@@OliverMotorized we put a 440 Kawasaki from snowmobile on 3 wheeler.... WARNING!!! When you put expansion chamber on from original exhaust...2 stage clutch WILL take the handle bars from your hand. Chalk the front, Put the back wheel up in the air and watch what your clutches are doing whilst someone runs that rpm up. Crouch down and watch closely what is happening by your leg, body, life. That thing is Badass. You are a mad scientist my man.
I've been building motorcycles for 26 years I really love what you did you're awesome keep it up
We built go-carts and pulling tractors with snowmobile engines, clutch drives and solid axles. The acceleration was insane.
The craziest one was a pulling tractor with a 650 Polaris Wildcat and a 670 Ski-Doo Rotax both running on straight alcohol with twin expansion chambers for each. That tractor was violent when you left the line. We did tractor pulls all over Ct.
Great bike build !!
Really surprised at how well it ran considering you cut the expansion chamber off...
Just when I think you've done it all...nope!
Insanely cool build!
Thank you for all your effort and time that you put into providing us with awesome content.
That is the sketchiest motorcycle ever, congratulations!
Ugly AF... And awesome lol
Fuckin awesome build. Totally enjoyed this video.
Fun Fact - I owned an 1980 Artic Cat Panther. The thing was an absolute MONSTER for being 22 yrs old. It ran perfect! Bought it for $600 in 2002 and sold for $600 in 2006. Old and slower than the newer sleds (every other sled that is haha), but an absolutely reliable machine!
Large times were had with that snowmobile :)
Also I'd recommend some safety squints! Just lookin out for ya.
Cheers-
Arctic cats are bad ass! My brother had a old one and it was tuned up. That thing flew! I swear it was 0-60 in just 2 seconds it was SCARY FAST! I remeber driving it and anything under 20 it was almost stalling out. It was happiest going full throttle lol miss the good ol days
That is the craziest Frankencycle I've ever seen. Nicely done.
What we have here is Mad Max type builder, that plays some of the best Blues I've heard since I watched another of your videos.. Keep em both rolling, as I appreciate an inventive warped young mind, as much as the Blues your providing along with it..
i use to love to build stuff out of junk.i built a 70 mph lawn boy riding mower that would mow grass. i have built a 65 mph electric bicycle it would go faster but the spokes kelp coming loose. i put a SBC on a 1953 ferguson tractor. that i still have. one day i'm going to get rid of it or maybe get it running again. the only trouble with building stuff out of junk for me is i'm 3 days older than dirt and can't really do it anymore. and if they had a love button i would have clicked it for sure
A young Allan Millyard in the making! Great job with your creation and it's great experience when you make things like that.
God do I love this channel!! He builds awesome rigs, and listens to his comments' advice!!
Ps. Weld that expansion chamber back on!!! You'll feel that powerband kick in 10x harder than before.
Hunter Petrovich cheers m8 thanks for the comment
@@OliverMotorized no problem man! Thanks for the content
Needs expansion chamber. It will fly!
I am 76 years old. Reminds me when I was young like you. Have fun. Brakes are essential. No brakes you dead. Isn’t it great to take what you have laying around and make something good. With high gas prices. How about a street legal diesel motorcycle. Cheap to run. Great fuel mileage. Roadstar.
You're crazy Oliver! I love how you are not scared to try anything! You're really an inspiration dude
Two strokes need a little exhaust back pressure young man, awesome job.
Brakes stop the machine. Breaks happen when you crash!😉
Might want to increase the oil delivery to help her cool as these Fanners were designed to be run in 40 degree & lower temperatures . Great build ! Love it !
Awsome, I looooove two strokes! Cannot wait to see it run with the expansion chamber installed!
When I was a kid i used to go to an AHRA drag strip. There was a guy there who had a drag bike powered by a Mercury Outboard motor.
inline 6 merc?
Sweet! I would have thought it would take off faster, maybe better with the carb adjustment. Hey 65mph on Frankenstein bike is pretty good, little scary too! If you need more snowmobiles there are plenty down here in Utah. Not too far of a drive from Oregon.
The exhaust was killing it a bit too. Needs that expansion chamber on there to help low end.
Damn, you put in work. Gotta respect the hand built ride.
Hats off. Very unique. I was skeptical at first when this video popped up but after seeing the execution and final test drive I was amazed
Молодец Оливер. Растешь на глазах👍
Nice I my first impression is he's gonna get hurt but yah know what u doing it just don't trust those 2strokes their crazy responsive and fast. Wicked run tho
Be blessed Jah Rastafari Selassie I Jah
I just turned 61 years old.......you are going to do just fine in this life!!! Thinking out of the box is where its at, dont listen to all the nay sayers and safety sissies, they are unable or unwilling to ever do anything close to what you have imagined and accomplished already at your age. Keep the common sense and HAMMER DOWN!! People like you give me hope, thanks 😃
Cool bike, you are throwing hp away when you cut the exhaust. But that has already been covered. Those big Cats were a blast to drive! I have a 303 Wankie panther cat, I need to use it! Thanks for sharing, Bob Ordewald Staunton Va
Everybody telling him that the engine wont run without the expansion chamber lol. Youre right and wrong. They obviously make a great improvement if made and tuned for the engine, but the original way two strokes were piped was a straight pipe, a really long one that was cut down little by little untill the engine ran best. So yes, the expansion chamber would help give back some of that great two stroke SKKKRT, but it is not 100% needed.
Expansion chambers help keep the power response smooth like a vacuum
I love the style of your filming. It's both enjoyable to watch and very artistic.
Thank Opinion1000, I agree 100!
The jackshaft brake is the coolest part of it. You should definitely leave it on there even if you do put brakes on the wheels. A front brake on a motorcycle is pretty much a must, but that one on the rear is pretty cool.
Damn that's a cool arctic cat. We had the same one as a kid. Good times.
Had me laughing bro at 60mph ... who says ugly can't be beautiful
Sounds like my take me to the hospital RD350 74 Yamaha Nice Job
I built a go cart using a snowmobile engine and chain case. 1 thing i leaned is the gearing needs to be matched. The jack shaft you are using went into a chain case on the snowmobile and it was geared down roughly 2to1. Double check tooth count and it with help with the next part. So the front shaft that drove the track had roughly 8"drive pulleys and now your using a 22 to 24 in tall rear tire. So you need an additional 2.75to1 reduction. You need a bigger rear sprocket minimum of 77. So you can have that 5.5 to 1, or even more 6 or 7 to 1. Follow everyone else's advice and do pipe and intake. You may have to lean out, due to not being in cold weather.
It's running real rich for 2 reasons. #1. As many have already said, it needs it's original expansion chamber. Two strokes won't make power with that straight pipe. #2. It's a snowmobile engine. The jetting is tuned for running in winter. Even after adding back the expansion chamber you will need to lean down the main jet, probably drop the needle position a click and adjust the air screw on that Mikuni carb. Also, it's spelled BRAKE not BREAK. Looks cool though.
09:05 just finished hacking up a perfectly tuned exhaust... no amount of carburetor tuning is gonna make this run well now... weld the tuned exhaust back on if you wanna make it run right.
will do! thanks for the advice
I was going to say the same the expansion pipe is made spacificly for the two stroke and will increase power output and without it they run like crap
To bad those to stroke don't last long that motor design for cold climate 🤔 hope it last . Have fun.
Snowmobile is a lot heavier work for engine than bike.
Great job Ollie. I like to see the young go at it on their own. It shows you have initiative and are willing to work for what you want. THOSE ARE ATRIBUTES THAT WILL HELP MAKE YOU SUCCESSFUL IN WHATEVER YOU CHOOSE TO DO.
I gotta say I've never seen anything like that. But its cool and it take a creative mind to actually pull that off. Awesome build there friend!
Nice job, but....Expansion chamber, expansion chamber, expansion chamber, expansion chamber !!!! ;-)
before you mess with the carb, reweld the original silencer (muffler) back together, trial run, then fix the carb if needed
I was like 2000. This was a cool video to watch. Seeing everything repurposed and pulled from other things as opposed to another Harbor Freight engine swap in a factory minimize or dine buggy etc... It was nice seeing something built from literally junk and or scrap yard type salvage. It might not win any beauty pageants but it's functional. Keep doing your thing man. I am subscribing!
So raw. I love it . You do need the stock exhaust pipe. 2 strokes are partly tuned with the exhaust pipe
James Jenkins yeah I’ll throw it back on for sure!
You should name that bike "the crippler" 😉
widow maker
Sounds like the motorcycles from Excitebike
Takes guts to try stuff like that but that's how progress is made. I would say you did a great job and it was a success !!
That was a VERY cool video!! Mad Max motorcycle build. I was laughing when you test rode it. Fun to watch. Thanks.
thanks for the comment!
Ditch the oil tank and do premix for a slightly cleaner look or a split tank like a Harley.
Good idea, It's also just in the way too!
That's a great idea.
Expansion chamber asap bro please you missing power like crazy because of that.
Exactly what I was thinking...the power band would kick in a lot faster lol
I love the sound of this motor.
You could just put the expansion chamber back on at the bend there, section the in/out a bit with some sheet metal to get it pointing back the right way. Sweet idea though and really good first test.
You should see, mustie1 old bike projects.👍🙌
This is really cool !! Also kinda ironic. back in '93 I put a Honda 550 motorcycle engine in a rupp snowmobile. check it out Randy S Coolbaugh on FB.
Fence post exhaust?!?! That's just crazy dude! It looks like something from Mad Max world. That was insane when you hit the power band in that first ride- I was thinking, "aw man, its needing some gear work" then, ZANG!
I just stumbled across this channel and video. You, sir, are a madman. It's awesome.
You NEED the stock exhaust with the expansion chamber or a custom expansion chamber pipe. You probably lost 1/3 of the power by removing it and all the torque :/
Awesome, give a kid a welder, some steel and common sense way cool!
I love the brake rotor on the jack-shaft. I really like off wheel and Unsprung brakes, like a Hummer.
You might explore your options on the drive pulley as well. Different springs and weights in the drive pulley will give you different engagement, or Stall, speeds on the engine revs. A snowmobile has a rather heavy drive train that needs a lot to get it moving, compared to a motorcycle. Getting the clutch engaged and driving you at lower rpms, and thus getting you in higher ratios at lower rpms might increase your speed range.
Very good point
Absolutely awesome bike!! Personally, I would've made an expansion chamber, and routed the exaust on the other side of the bike. Sick build!!
You sir are a madman....I like your idea and the way you think...
Great music too.
The rest of the expansion chamber exhaust is important, really important. Putting it all in as designed will let that thing really scream. You can hear the effect from the exhaust is missing. You won't believe the difference. Cheers.
Well now that the other comments are visible, first time they weren't, I guess just consider mine as a vote for the expansion chamber.
That shroud on the engine is meant to keep it warm for snow use, so they cover the cooling fins. For street use you should remove it to keep the engine from overheating.
My man! This is great keep it up. The YT Community enjoys the "build with what you have" mindset. Thanks for sharing.
Doug Philbeck thanks Doug
Great custom made snowmobile powered motorcycle. Even though it does not go that fast even up to 70mph.
That thing looks dangerous as hell..................I love it!
Yup; original expansion chamber needs to go back on, as it's accoustically tuned (2-stroke operates with exhaust pulses) to the engine, and -then- tackle the carb.
With that sorted, this thing's powerband will be KILLER in the midrange! =)
Cool build!!! Mad Max look out! ...And def fix that exhaust, it'll run even better!!!
More of this for sure! Awesome stuff...
Another cool build thanks for posting
way to go dude, amazing what you can accomplish when you use your head.
You might be the next Jesse James, custom bike builder.
I don't care what anyone says, it sounds so much more badass without that expansion chamber.
Really great job using the snow mobile engine. If you ever fix the exhaust and tune it it’d be worth taking to your local drag strip ( the legal kind ) just to get the paper with your speed and time . With the exhaust fixed 80 mph should be achievable before you start really tuning it . Great video , wishing you many years of safe and fun riding 👍
Quality context. Great build. 👍
Just as I thought in the comments, never modify the exhaust, that tune would be ok with an exhaust, exhaust is everything on a 2 stroke 440 , cool build
Two strokes need back pressure/expansion chamber but that was well built and an excellent success! You're better than me!
get the proper expansion chamber on there, jet it for the warm weather and it should be a 100 mph machine.
Sounds Good, Don't get, killed.
Thanks from NOR-CAL.
Awesome build brother. I knew that thing would take off lol. Very nice 👍
What’s up Oregon! SW Washington here. This was a awesome build! Good to see a young guy just getting in there with an idea and going for it. You do need that expansion the stock exhaust has. The pulse that engine gives off is needed for the back pressure. It’ll be a whole different beast if you can figure out a way to utilize it.
You are a genius my young friend. It takes a genius to be able to build a motorcycle out of virtually nothing as you do. I would rather ride your motorcycle than a brand new one off a showroom floor. I know your videos don't show the countless hours you spend figuring things out, but you are a self taught genuine fabricator, builder and master mechanic. Thanks for taking the time to film your projects. Just watching your test ride take me back to my younger days, I just wish I had been half as smart as you are.
Bad ass ! I like the jackshift brake. Make sure they work at 65 though..
If you're thinking of doing a round 2 with a bigger motor.....DO IT ! Cool project .
Bad ass bro. Watching you build this was vary satisfying. Thank you
That's awesome! exhaust sounds sick
just some tips! 1) never run that style clutch/cvt without the belt being on, they can fly right off the end of the crank and cause some mayhem 2) possibly look for an aftermarket tune pipe for that specific engine then modding it into a usable configuration, or a cheaper method.. cut the fatter end of the old exhaust you had for the snowmobile open, inside you should see a cone shape with an open hole.... that cone and everything else that leads back to the engine is the tuned pipe. cut the rest of the metal around the cone off. finish the end with a piece of pipe 5-6" long and a big washer, than you can drill out the inside portion of the washer to finer tune the pipe id say atleast 3/4.. maybe 7/8... to start? a properly tuned exhaust can add 5-10hp to that engine.. 3) snowmobile engines are usually jetted for altitude/temp so you may have to adjust those 5) try a liquid engine next? way more power..
Damn! This thing looks like it came straight out of Mad Max!
Hey, cool project, it’s awesome you made it and did it by yourself! Imagine what that carb tune will do for your Speed! You’ll rip the tires up Too! Nice work!
Have to have the expansion chamber for the 2 stroke. It uses the momentum and pressure of the exhaust gases to create a pump that squeezes more air and fuel into the cylinder during the intake stroke. Works like a turbo in a sense. Without any moving parts ofcourse.
One word here; SNOWMOCYCLE
