  • The Porsche Boxster is the very sports car that saved Porsche, pulling the company out of its early 90's rut with massive Boxster sales. There is a reason this car did so well, and one worth exploring. This is my in depth review of what makes the Porsche Boxster so great, and analyzes if its the best bargain found for under $10K.
    In the market for an affordable sports car? Here is another review of the Subaru BRZ, a direct competitor to the Boxster:

    I've owned Porsches since 1972 starting with 356's. I bought a 1998 Porsche 986 Boxster in 2018 with 117k miles. It is an amazing car for what it is. It is VERY Porsche in personality and FAR FAR better than any air cooled Porsche I ever owned. It still looks like a new car even though it's now 26 years old. It is quite fast, as fast as any Porsche I ever owned except for a 1982 930 Turbo. It handles very very well. It is a bit light in the front at very high speed or in the rain when gas tank is low and that is normal for Porsches, throw in a couple of sacks of rock or sand. The two trunks are HUGE and VERY handy. It is ONLY two seats, nothing more. It is designed to be driven with the top down, with the top up you feel like you are being mailed to your aunt in a box. Brakes are GREAT. Mileage driving stop and go in town sux. Gearing is short so you'll be shifting a lot until you figure it out, use 1st only when you must and heel and toe routinely. It runs up to 90mph quite quickly, lots of grunt for a 2.5 liter engine, over 100mph with the top down you grow younger by the minute.

      We love our 00' 986S that we got for our daughter and kept when she moved on to a family vehicle. It fits in well with my 996TT and 957 Transsyberia. I've been lucky with cars.

    I love my Boxster. Bought it for my Son 7 years ago and over a period of 4.5 years we changed the IMS, clutch, flywheel, leather seats, stereo, suspension, brakes, generator, and numerous other parts and projects. Easy to work on and great to drive. 👍👍👍

    Thank you for a great video. I also have a 99 Boxster manual transmission with a red leather interior. The more I drive it, the more I like it 😊. Your Boxster is gorgeous !

      Im glad you enjoyed. They’re definitely great cars and yours sounds perfect with the manual, this one wasn’t mine but I had the chance to drive it for a while before making this video to understand the car thoroughly. Thanks for watching!

    First things first, I commented a few videos ago that you should get a microphone so you're not holding your phone in the videos. I see you have done so, and you look much more professional now. Second, you did that c6 video right after I purchased one. I've since sold that car and picked up something else a little over a month ago. What did I get...a 986 Boxster S. Too funny. Good job on the video.

      Welcome back, that very suggestion is what got me to step that up so thank you, it even made filming much easier. As for the car that’s an awesome coincidence and I’m sure you’re happy with the Boxster, I found this one to be a blast! Glad you enjoyed, and I appreciate the continued support.

    I paid more than 10k a few years ago for a very nice low mile base model. I have never enjoyed a car more than this. I average about 1k a year in service, all of which have been preventive as I have never had any mechanical issues. 4 years on and it is the car that I look for an excuse to drive it. Excellent review, on an excellent criminally underrated car.

      1k a year in service is a great bargain for how fun these cars are. I’m glad you enjoyed the review, and I agree these cars are all too overlooked

      It seems all of Porsche does that, the 964 is the best looking car they’ve made in my opinion.

    What is the maintenance like per year in terms of costs when you take it to a Porsche mechanic?

    • @running2redline
      @running2redline  Před 10 měsíci +2

      From what I can find online right around $1k a year seems to be the average, it could be lower some years, or far more if you end up with an IMS issue. Hopefully that helps, thanks for watching!

      Better have min spare $10k upon purchase for initial repair to bring it to good running shape, and $5k/yr for maintenance. Don’t expect it to be Toyota-like reliable and economical. It’s a Porsche.

    • @Brevzi
      @Brevzi Před 25 dny

      @@agnesf2659 I know this is a late response but I’m looking at buying one I found a 98 115k miles and with lots of maintenance records. If a lot of the main longer term maintenance has been taken care of (best case scenario) I’m wondering how much the yearly maintenance cost would go down.

    Red color is sharp, not common. Seems like silver is the dominant color on boxsters. The tan interior looks yellow in the bright sun. Shopping for a boxster s to buy.

    • @running2redline
      @running2redline  Před 6 měsíci

      It looks great in person! And the interior is definitely more yellow than most tan colors but I think my color grading exaggerated it. I think the additional power of the Boxster S would go a long way, good luck with your search.

    Very cool car. But if you are looking for a four seater where you can drive around with your wife next to you and your dog in the rear seat, then consider a Mini Cooper Convertible. It's shorter than a Boxster, holds four people, seats recline further back, has plenty of room and cup holders where they belong.
