Shattered is a suspenseful thriller by Dean Koontz that follows the harrowing journey of Alex Doyle and his new family. As Alex and his stepbrother Colin travel across the country to San Francisco, where Alex’s new wife and Colin’s sister, Courtney, awaits them, they find themselves being stalked by a psychopath in a van. This relentless pursuit turns their road trip into a nightmare as they are forced to confront the terror that follows them. Mr Koontz was one of my first favorite writers. From the Corner of His Eye was my absolute favorite from him. After Odd Thomas was when I started reading more Stephen King and found his stories to be more varied and layered.

what's with the low volume chatter in the background? i listen with over ear noise cancelling headphones - it's not them - and i just can't stay calm about it. i keep thinking someone might be outside the door, creepy

I really enjoyed this story. The very odd thing is, there is a vocal track in the background. It reminds me of listening to a voice on the radio with a voice on a different station playing in another room; it's impossible to make out clearly, but still extremely noticeable. It may not even be audible to some other listeners, but unfortunately, it was really distracting to me.

This usually happens when the original audio is transferred from an audiotape and known as “tape bleed through”.
The audio starts to bleed through over time because the tape is slightly magnetic and when the layers were wound tight sound could transfer to the other side of the tape.
So it is pretty common to hear the other side of the tape with audiobooks that were originally stored on tape before they were digitized, because the degradation would sometimes happen even if the tape wasn’t used a lot due to the magnetic transfer, and the chemicals breaking down earlier than manufacturers hoped etc.
Idk why but I’ve kind of learned to enjoy it and just think of it as a retro style sound lol.

Great book so far! But I can't focus on the narrator and keeping up with the story line because of the second sound faint in the background...
