- Michael Francis Gilbert was an English solicitor and author of crime fiction.
Gilbert's writing career spanned the years 1947 to 1999 with his final work being Over and Out. The genres his fiction novels enveloped included police procedurals, spy novels, short stories, courtroom dramas, classical mysteries, adventure thrillers, and crime novels. Following his death, The New York Times quoted one of Gilbert's publishers regarding his writing style: "Michael was an exceptionally fine storyteller, but he's hard to classify. He's not a hard-boiled writer in the classic sense, but there is a hard edge to him, a feeling within his work that not all of society is rational, that virtue is not always rewarded."

If only the BBC still produced such excellent programmes.
The quality that the BBC was churning out during those decades was stunningly good. This is yet another of them. Cheers for uploading them 👍
21 January 2024 - Listening from Kentucky on a 3F degree morning. Coffee, birds at the feeder, old time radio.
Wonderful. You set the scene perfectly for enjoying BBC Drama. In Ireland we had the RTE players weekly drama. Brilliant
It was also superb rep training for actors which sadly is not available to us today
Wow fabulous , ❤from uk

Show stats of CZcams theater play listeners & go in with a willing Rep Group & a collection of modern writer’s work/reworked to pitch a MONTHLY SUNDAY RADIO THEATER DRAMAS.
Wow! This is the second military theme traitor radio show that I listened to tonight, and this was good! Thank you for posting.
Excellent play with great radio actors. One of the best I’ve heard so far. Thanks so much for the upload.
Very good story. Thanks
A big thank you to you my friend,😜👍👍👍🇬🇧
That was excellent; Thank-You!
Second time I've listened to this excellent play. Terrific actors, wonderful diction and expression.
Yet another top notch British drama..thanks for sharing. Really appreciated kind regards Dave 👍👍👍👍
Alan Cuthbertson had a great voice for radio. Always entertaining in movies and radio.
Great drama loved it. The closing music reminded me of the intro music for 'Baker Street' by Gerry Rafferty (1978)
Synopsis: An author has finished writing a book about his experiences in WWII....all but the last chapter. He has contracted with the publisher to produce the final chapter by an agreed upon date. When that time comes, the author asks for extensions making excuse after excuse. The publisher sends an employee to determine what's going on. What that employee finds raises much more serious questions.
Thank you..nice to know what you are getting into
thank you Tottie always thankful
I'm pleased to be useful. 😊
Excellent synopsis. It does not give anything away. Thank you.
@@yutub6928 You're so welcome.😊
Brilliant - thanks for upload.
Very good
This was great. Thank you for uploading it.
Gordon Loftus was played by a young James Bolam ("Terry" in "The Likely Lads").
Tony Naylor Smith was played by the unmistakable Maurice Denham
Laurie was played by Anna Cropper (or Copper?); not a name I knew, but she was very good.
I didn't catch the name of the actor playing Randy, but I know his voice well, and he's been in loads of films and TV.
I thought the sweary editor/ publisher sounded like Brian Cox, but I don't think that was the name in the credits, but I didn't catch what it was. Edit: He was called Datson, played by Alan Barry.
Rest of cast:
Randolph (Randy) Aplin: Alan Cutherbertson
Policeman: Geoffrey .Collins
Inspector Viggers: Peter Tuddenham
Jessica Rayburn: Katherine Helm
Ben Bannister: John Pullin
Leslie: Nigel Anthony
Maurice Denham was an excellent
Maigret in the BBC radio version .
(episodes available elsewhere on CZcams I believe ?)
Thanks for the uploads Champion, these types of broadcast are although old themselves very new to me. So thank you 😎
Very good story line 🙂
❤
Good plot
Well - I guessed whodunnit straight away, nonetheless, it was well written and performed by an excellent cast. Alan Cuthbertson was always good value!
Someone turned the bass up to 11, my table was rattling!
😂
Two main voice styles for mid century Brit actresses. One is used by this actress, the other is an older lady style with the deeper, slower voice. They all sound like the same 2 people.
James Bolam narrates a good story.
📻😀
Very poor sound quality
Yes, far too much bass and muffled. Thought it was my tablet at first.
Whatever happens, you can always blame it on the Nazis.
J,
