While I suspect that some form of aid for Ukraine will pass the House, it will be in a different form than the bill the Senate has already passed. So that means the package goes back to the Senate and they vote on the revised package, and if that process amends what the House passes there will be a reconciliation committee involving House and Senate members to iron out something that both houses can accept. So expect that it will take at least 3 or 4 weeks from when the House passes something until the bill actually gets to President Biden's desk for signature.

Yeah, it's just a ruse by Speaker Johnson to add further delay to his "support" for Ukraine. If he really supported Ukraine he'd have allowed the vote back in October instead of delaying, and send the House on holiday every two weeks each months. I wonder how much Russia is paying him - and he claims to worry about Ukraine corruption? What a pathetic little man, and he calls himself a Christian.

Dom, in the US the best thinking is still that if we can get a Ukraine vote to the House floor, it will pass. And any bill now is better than standing still. I'm sure the mood couldn't be worse no matter where one is sitting, but here there is a sense that Republicans will vote on Ukraine Aid in some form. Our Progressives are uniformly refusing to sign the Discharge Petition, which is incredibly discouraging and perhaps seals the fate of the original Senate Foreign Aid Supplemental. This means time will be wasted, again.. The press conference with the mothers of the fallen soldiers went out on Reuters, AP, Fox, VOA. Gold Star mom Allison Nevinson, mother of hero Jehrico, was particularly moving.

Ukraine could do with anti-drone drones, especially to take out Russian recon drones and attack drones (including Shaheds).
These drones could work in any of the following ways:
    - Hit to kill (i.e. a Ukrainian drone flies into a Russian drone and explodes)
    - Drones that shoot nets at enemy drones that they get tangled up in (this is good because the drone can be recovered undamaged and analysed for weaknesses)
    - Fit drones with guns (shotguns would probably be the most effective at close ranges without requiring great accuracy - a way would need to be developed to deal with the recoil though)
    - Fit drones with the Epirus Leonidas microwave pod to burn out the electronics in drones
    - Larger drones (e.g. Reaper-sized drones) could carry air-to-air ordnance like ATAS (Air-To-Air Stinger) or APKWS rockets (these could possibly also shoot down cruise missiles and attack helicopters)

They manufacture 550 Patriot 3 missiles a year! Israel just blew off $1.35 bil. worth of air defense missiles a few nights ago. There is a finite supply of these munitions worldwide. Western armies are not built for peer to peer combat, they're built to drop bombs, unhindered, on places like Afghanistan and to deploy special operations forces and neither one of those things is capable of winning a war, which is why the West keeps losing them.

This may well be the last big aid package for Ukraine considering the challenges of getting this one through. My gut feeling is that the west is merely prolonging the inevitable and naturally it means a lot of people will die unnecessarily between now and when Ukraine finally decides throw in the proverbial white towel. At that time many will ask why the war was allowed to go for so long.
As a humanitarian I honestly believe that the idea of fighting on until the last drop of blood is unethical and immoral. Ukraine was okay as a neutral state which was neither pro Russian or Ukraine. The western media never debates about whether Ukraine was better of as a neutral state or not. Instead we are being constantly bombarded with propaganda rhetoric which doesn't benefit anyone.

The so called 'russian meatgrinder' which is used to describe the russian attrition tactic in which ukrainians are methodically killed is instead flipped on its head. Now it's about russians being killed! And still claiming the absurd 50.000 russian vs 31.000 ukrainian dead figures nobody believes.

I imagine that Russia is not very confident in any of their atomic missiles, given their widespread failure to maintain state assets. I expect quite a few would fail to launch, launch and fail to go where anywhere near the intended target, or simply detonate at or near the launch site. This scenario would suggest, that an attack on a Ukrainian power plant , is the closest thing Russia has to a viable nuclear threat. It might also partially explain why they are not concerned about the proximity of the bomb site to their own borders, as an atomic disaster near their borders is much better than one within their own borders.
