  • Paul Farrington, Jack Weinberger, and Robert "Ziggy" Ziegler share their predictions for the NFC North ahead of the 2024 NFL season. Did Jared Goff and the Detroit Lions do enough to overtake the San Francisco 49ers as the top team in the NFC? Will Jordan Love carry over his second-half of the season performance as the Packers turn their attention toward a Super Bowl run? And how will the Green Bay defense look under new defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley? How high is the ceiling for Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears following a big offseason in the Windy City? Will Justin Jefferson and the Vikings be a surprise playoff contender with either Sam Darnold or JJ McCarthy at the helm? Later, the guys share their preseason division MVP before making their NFC North predictions for the 2024 NFL season.

The most powerful form of renewable energy on earth isn't nuclear fusion. It's the joy I get from schadenfreude when NFC North fans say they think the jury is still out on Love or hang their hats on the possibility of regression. Truly delightful.

The Lions losing CGJ will be a net positive. The dude played like 3 games and caused more confusion on the field than anything. Iffy Melifonwu was a top 10 safety and he'll get his first season as the full time starter with CGJ's absence.
DJ Reader replacing Benito Jones, Carlton Davis replacing Cam Sutton, Terrion Arnold replacing Jerry Jacobs, Kevin Zeitler replacing Jonah Jackson, Marcus Davenport playing opposite Hutch...they filled all of their holes and the team is filled with young starters who are only getting better.
For WR's, the Lions dont really need a "good" 3rd receiver. That 3rd WR would literally be the 5th receiving option and they have some solid players in DPJ, Kalif Raymond, and Antoine Green.
Barring a bunch of major injuries, the Lions should be a 13+ win team.

Just to clear it up because it was a common misconception at the time. Gutey never said anything about moving on from Jordan. That was all taken from a clickbait article title (from adam schefter of all people) that ended up being taken down and apologized for because it was so disingenuous. This is the full quote from Gutey:
"Reporter: What have you thought of how Jordan’s played these first seven games?
Gutekunst: A little bit up and down like our entire offense, right? You know, I think that it’s been a work in progress for the entire offense. There’s been glimpses, particularly in the second halves, of really good football, but we have not started very well. I think that group, that unit as a whole, has a lot of work to do. But at the same time, I think they’re kinda committed to the process, believe in that group of guys and expect better results coming.
Reporter: Is it going to take more than just this season to find out what you have in Jordan and if he is the guy going forward?
Gutekunst: I hope not. I think we got 10 games left. It’s going to be a very important 10 games. I think he’s done a lot of really good things. I really like how he’s responded to the adversity, how he’s led the team. Again, we have to be better as a unit, and I expect that to happen over the next ten games. I think we’re going through some things that we knew we would go through. We haven’t had the results we want, but I do like the way guys are responding to things."

I think the fact that they outplayed the 49ers and lost in the NFC championship game will added motivation for the Lions. The 49ers needed a few flukey plays in the NFC championship to win that game. It started with the Lions cornerback have what shouold have been a sure INT bounce off his facemask into the hands of the 49ers receivers setting up a TD. Next, the normally surehanded Gibbs loses a fumble. Finally, Josh Reynolds droops not one but two 4th down passes that would have been first downs. Josh made those plays all year and you expect that he would make them in the championship game. It just wasn't meant to be for the Lions last season, but again it should provide added motivation for this season.

@ThePaulFarrigtonShow IMHO the team with the best coach and the best quarterback will win the NFC North. It’s that simple. What quarterback in the NFC North can put his team on his shoulders and carry them to victory? What head coach can take young unproven players and turn them into an offensive juggernaut without the “luxury” having a bevy of top 10 picks, including the 1st overall selection. You know the answer. MLF and JLove will bring home the Lombardi Trophy sooner rather than later. I think Dan Campbell takes gambles on fourth down so many times because he doesn’t have faith in his quarterback. I feel that he thinks he better go for it now because Goff may not get another chance. Matt LaFleur has confidence in his quarterback and his ability to convert on fourth down. It’s just another play. If it doesn’t work, he knows JLove can overcome it and still lead the team to victory.

My ?s for GB are they still don't have a kicker/punter, Marshawn Loyd is a talented runner but has tiny hands and can be stripped of the ball. He's gonna get carries. Not a ton, but some. Is he gonna fumble in key moments? I don't think Jordan Morgan is a day one starter. Will the O line suck? We lost two key guys. Green Bay Has an embarrassment of riches at most positions, but the ones they don't are key positions that can cost key games. I think GB will be good, maybe even great. I think GB will win the division, but Detroit has the better chance of winning the SB. They are more playoff built than GB. I also would not under estimate Goffs ability to just bust out with a legendary playoff performance. When it's clicking there, he's as bad ass as any QB in the league. As for the Vikes and Bears..... It's hilarious that their fans think they will be good. The Vikes drafted a fourth round QB in the first round, the Bears drafted Ryan Leaf 2.0 and added a bunch of guys to join him in disappointing the city of Chicago. No more than ten wins between them.

When I look at the NFC North this year, I see three possibilities based on recent NFL history:
The pessimist option, which would be the 2021 AFC East. This division was a close race between two wildly inconsistent teams: the Bills and the Patriots. The Bills ultimately finished 11-6, while the Patriots went 10-7, with the Dolphins finishing 9-8, and the Jets bringing up the rear at 4-13. Given how young the Lions, Packers, and Bears all are, this race could replicate that one in terms of inconsistency, though I doubt the Vikings will be as putrid as the Jets were.
The optimist option, which would be the 2022 NFC East. I think this kind of unlikely, given how much that division got fat off the NFC North (11-5 combined record,) and AFC South (14-2 combined record.) I severely doubt that the NFC North posts that kind of record against the NFC west and AFC South this coming season.
Finally, the realist, or as close as you can get to one, which would be the 2021 NFC West. This division would send three teams to the playoffs: the Rams (12-5) Carddinals 11-6) and the 49ers (10-7.) The Rams of course went on to win the Super Bowl that year, while the 49ers reached the NFC championship game.
    Take this as you will.

Detroit has the most favorable schedule in the league! They don’t play outside until week 9! And they only play 3 outdoor games all year! Goff notoriously struggles outside, if they don’t win the division something very bad happened.

When did this news come out?? 😅 Detroit doesn't have the most favorable schedule.. however I think what we do is fans is over analyze.. stop and I'm always one of those fans who can see things even keel.. they'll be fine, at worst case scenario the Outlook is that they'll get to the NFC championship game but in reality they are expected to get to the Super Bowl.. I know that may be tough for some outside fans who don't really like the Lions to accept but it's the expectation overall.. and I think people need to realize this is a new era of football.. an arrow or the Detroit Lions are good now.. and you have to accept it or you're going to draw yourself insane and be more delusional than what you would like.. guys trust me it's okay LOL..

@@WWG3802but what is that based on??.. like I will give you a high five and agree with you if Detroit had like a bunch of veterans on like these crazy contracts, but they're doing it with the formula that we've all seen work in the World of Sports... Using their young guys/prospects and developing it through the draft whike sprinkling it with some veterans to help push them over the top.. every time I've seen teams in sports do this and use this formula it has always been a success, 10 times out of 10!.. this is also the first time in history Detroit has used this formula.. so it looks like they finally got it RIGHT!!.. which make sense for why they have an improving every year since Dan Campbell and Brad Holmes arrived.. this is why Lions fans are as confident or even cocky ( to some) as they are because they realize that the Lions finally got the formula right! (for once).. the formula of success that has worked for all sports teams in all FOUR Sports to sustain success for YEARSSSss.. and you can see the progression of their younger guys each seasons too, which makes it even more encouraging..

The favorite should be the Packers. They were better than the Lions in the last half of the year. They have a younger squad that Improved more. And they have the better QB and HC.
I expect GB to win 12 or more this year. I expect the Lions to be close but clearly in 2nd. I expect Williams to be a rookie and the Bears to be mediocre. And the Vikings to be bad. Very bad. 😂

    • @thewizardofoz511

They're not the favorite for a reason bud.. and you can't forget that the lions are young too.. want to say they're like the 6th youngest in the NFL.. and that when the Green Bay got over them on Thanksgiving was more good for the Packers than it was detrimental to the Lions.. overall I don't believe ESPN was fooled by that, I feel like they viewed it as the Packers catching the Lions off guard on a short week or something with them having a bit of a banged up offensive line that game.. mind you the Bears took advantage of that same problem just a couple weeks later.. I think another thing that helps the Lions is that they're more unified and veterinaries as a cohesive unit.. you know what I mean.. like they've been through the battles together a little bit longer than what the Packers have and the group that they have.. they're doing it all together.. also I think being hated on as much as Detroit has really helped out the Detroit Lions.. and actually works to the Lions advantage.. the Packers don't have all the pastime hate and that "me against the World" fire that Detroit has.. and because Brad Holmes and Dan Campbell is there overseers, it makes for a perfect marriage 🤷
I've said it before but if Detroit wasn't hated on as much I think they actually would have lost to the Rams this past season in the playoffs.. ESPECIALLY WITH THAT SECONDARY THEY HAD!.. between that loud ruckus crowd and I'm using the hate that everybody had forced on them, I think what we witness is HEART! why Detroit pulled out that game..
