There's a particularly bitter pill in those lyrics. Glad someone has taken the initiative to sing about it. I'm with Wetherall on this one. Tremendous stuff.

Before the revolution -father john misty same guy same album but honestly more nuanced and beautiful than this on imo
I dont know why but this song makes me think of some old thing? Some bittersweet nostalgic thing, some paul mcartney, some Neil diamond too, and it feels like a hug to my soul but at the same time its like a stab straight to my heart 😢
This has been one of my favorite songs since I first heard it and I love it more without the laugh track on the album. His voice is so good I get pissed mine is so shit.

I hear way more classic Randy Newman in this record than Elton.But what he forges anew of his own inspiration is way more interesting than whatever you two are babbling about.
Elton John is not writing this quality, familiar sounds very different content imo. It doesn’t need to be a competition.
