Dude, if you are not on the spaceship to Mars they will never get there.
And defo not back!
Old Red is in the best hands for repairs 😊👍🏼
I agree 👍🏾
Same here, especially since you’ve redone/rebuilt Old Red from the start sir.
Hey, you forgot to let us hear how it sounds straight piped!! You the man!!!
Sounds just like EVERY other turbocharged I6... Ifuckingdentical...
It’s a b model cat they aren’t that loud straight piped in my opinion more engine noise then anything jakes sound alright if you want loud Cummins or Detroit
The joys of owner operator
It is always more important to get the task done vs making a video, thank goodness you had a reman available close by.
You are a good trucker there is a lot of distance between good truckers these days.
Ezra, when it rains it pours brother. I guess that’s trucking. Thanks for sharing. Awesome video.👍👍👍
Thank you, Ezra🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
good lord I'm still wore out from watching you do that the last time
Glad you are skilled enough to do your own repairs. Always enjoy your videos. You do well to take everything in stride! Roll on Big Red!
Great video! You are a tough dude. I admire owner operator truck drivers who do their own maintenance and troubleshooting. You are a rare breed of gutsy people who are the backbone of this country.
I'm late coming to view the video. Holy crap. That ordeal put a sweat on! Red, she's lucky to have you. That's for certain!
Dude you're a STUD, and a GOOD MAN!! Ultimate respect to you and all you do. The world needs more good men like you! I just retired from truckin 42 years about a year ago watching your vids refresh many memories good and bad, still scrubbing the grime from my hands and feeling those aches and pains I know you're feeling regularly. Keep on Brother!!!!
Wow. Guy changes out a big rig transmission BY HIMSELF in like a day.
Well done Ezra up and running as quick as you could. FairPlay to the farmer and his wife. Again up and running ASAP. It’s never easy running trucks. One thing after another👍
Ezra Sorry to hear about all your problems with Big Red. Glad you got it fixed. Be Safe & Be Careful. Thanks
"Under the gun and I need to get it fixed" the story of my life too Ezrider359! But hey, if it were easy, everyone could do it! It sucks but you always get it done and keep on truck brother!
The fact you recorded this video when you were in a time crunch, says something about you.
You saved on your labor. Your pretty handy when something breaks and thanks to the Farmer. Most Farmers are very glad to help thats the way of their life. They halp each other.
Isn't trucking fun. Glad to see somebody else is having fun with everything. High pressure line blew out on AC. Replace it blew the line out to the sleeper. Replace that and then blew the new line off at the compressor. The line got so hot it blistered the line and melted the plastic loom off of it. Can't figure out why it's get so hot now. So in town I have to keep motor fan on.
Few things that come to mind. Bad high pressure switch. Over charged. Plugged expansion valve or office tube
It is awesome to see how far that truck has come. From being put into the pasture to rot, to being a working piece of art. Thank you for being an inspiration. Appreciate the quality videos
Still amazed that Old Red was in the field you brought him home, brought him back to life !!!
Super Nice Truck !!!
Never a dull moment being an owner operator/mechanic one-man operation. You have great skills to diagnose, fix and maintain your equipment. Hearing the cost of the transmission alone how much would a shop had charged. 💵💸💸
"How much horsepower are ya runnin?" "A couple." lmao
This is the first time I've seen your channel. I just subscribed and thumbs up to you. I'm a retired owner operator. I just want to say people like you are what makes America great. Not to mention you keep America running. Much respect.
Welcome aboard!
Ezra you do a great job of filming assembly and disassembly in heavy equipment like this! 👍
Sorry about Ole red good luck buddy
My Daddy was cut from the same cloth, God Bless you
I spent more time in my Daddy's shop, than I did in school !!!! More chick's too !!!!
Get a filter relocate kit for that filter or I think they make one that screws on to direct the filter a different direction
Well that certainly sucks a big root!
Something a buddy of mine learned from his Pop’s was when draining oil out of Engine, Rear End’s, Transmission, etc that you want to see what sort of unhappy parts and pieces, etc is not where it is supposed be is to place a gallon paint can or #10 “tin can” 1like canned vegetables and beans etc come in for institutions, restaurants, etc and place that in your larger drain pan and let the oil etc drain into the gallon / #10 can. After whatever you are done draining the oil etc from the Engine, Rear Ends, Transmission, etc you can carefully decant/pour off the oil etc in the gallon/#10 tin can to see what bad news has drained out. I know this sounds rather simplistic and something anyone could think of and it is but it also beats cleaning out a larger drain bucket and then feeling around in the drain bucket/pan for potentially bad news that came out when the oil etc was drained. I have one of those large drain pans on wheels and pump to empty the that pan into my used oil storage container. The roll around drain pan I have is has a piece of heavy screen over the opening so you can’t drop a drain plug etc into the drain pan and because of that I drilled a few 1/2 holes about halfway up the gallon bucket/#10 tin can so I don’t have to decant/pour off as much oil etc to see if there is any bad news in the bottom of it. Besides the advantages I have already mentioned already the best one is it is certainly easier to wipe out/ wash out (spray down with Brake Kleen) than the large drain bucket/pan. Additionally if you have a friend that works at a cafe or dinner that gets vegetables, beans, soup etc in #10 cans than other giving them a quick rinse so you don’t have food stuffs in the cans and when you are done with the can it just gets dumped and tossed.
You are a great guy! I have see all your videos, old red can be proud on you! Because you safe her every time again! ❤
Isn't what truckers told me...
If it has tits or tires it's trouble 😆
Nice job 👍
The ones that are telling you what to do. Have likely never even greased a truck. Great job sir. I’ve done it. It’s hard work.
Time to pull out the ol mack. Stretch its ol legs. 😊
I feel your pain Ezra, our Detroit is pushing 714hp at the flywheel, torque is a bit beyond 2250. Scheid Diesel provided me with a tractor sled pull clutch.
It amazes me how little most truckers know about torque and torque multiplication through gearing. Scheid showed us dyno results from a 600/2050 Cat with 18 SPD and 3:36 rear diffs. The trans first gear was 11.36 and coupled with 3:36 rears, the torque is over 118,000lbs in first gear. It blows my mind that drivers actually think the HP/tq ratings are capable of moving 40 tons from a dead stop going uphill, lol, 1850 or 2050 torque straight through the driveline would never move the truck efficiently.
love your videos brother. tough luck, but at least you were able to knock out the labor yourself. much respect to your work ethic. good luck in the future.
Was as much for time as money I was rolling again days quicker than leaving it in the hands of a shop
nice job brother.. sucks to have to do it but you knocked it out...
It wasn't fun let's not do it again...lol
You can tell this man is hard working with a humble attitude! Nice truck I like the weathered paint.
Truck is just dirty from running in the rain in this video
Totally understand being behind on videos. I've got a few months worth of backlog that I haven't edited either. I've been watching your channel since you first got Old Red. Sorry to hear that you've had these issues, but it sounds like the overall end result has been a great truck that's far more interesting than a new one. It's always something on these big vehicles. I'm about to change the air compressor on my bus (Prevost with a Series 60) after having to change all the exhaust rockers on the engine due to the rollers pitting.
Looking forward to your videos with snow on the ground over the summer when you get around to editing them.
Wow man, driver mechanic. Props to you. Subscribed
Thanks for the sub!
You have a nice shop setup and the skills to make it work! Thank you for taking the time to make these videos. I think that was the fastest Ive ever seen a transmission go in, LOL. I did engines for years and getting the tranny stabbed was always a fight...
But, just be damn glad that you have the shop, the tools, and the knowledge to be able to do the repairs yourself!
Shop labor at a shop would have been an additional $5,000.00 minimum. Also, they would have wanted to mark up the transmission cost. If you had to hire a shop to do that job, I wouldn't have been surprised to see that the total was $15 grand! I know of shop labor rates now at $250.00 an hour. And again, they'll mark up that transmission cost also!
Take your ~$8,300.00 plus a $4,000.00 markup plus ten hours of labor at $250.00 per hour = $14,800.00!
A shop would have raped you!
It's not good that the original one failed so soon and that the warranty was history but... you got 'er done and preserved a helluva lot of money!
Good job!
Did the previous trans have a halo oil tube? In my opinion the halo really helps when you’ve got decent horsepower. It serves to keep a constant flow of oil over the main drive and over drive gears to keep them cool.
Its amazing how much you can do by yourself.
Trucking is so much fun. It's even a blast when you are an owner operator. Shit happens. Well done, sir.
I'm over here at bismarck if you ever need a extra set of hands we're building an 89 over at storage kings.
Dude your savage tough as nails !!! This kind of content is exactly why I enjoy your videos ! enjoy your knowledge and determination.
Lol, mine did the same thing. 3 days before you posted this video. It started with a little tick sound, but I tried to limp it, but the weight I had said let me smooth that gear on over.
We made the same choice on a new tranmission. I hope this one can last.
Good luck on your
As always a good job in the real world! Thanks!
I bet the Jake sounds off pretty good with that straight pipe.
Great job mate you work bloody hard.
Thanks 👍
Upgraded my grain truck got a 1974 IHC at auction really cheap saying I can fix that 60 hours later I had it on the road took 12 gallons of grain and assorted mouse parts out of the heater box who knew mousez could pack that much grain into a heater box. Took me a long time to sort out wiring issues had no signal or head lights and every wire is black have to read the number stamped on wire if you have wiring diagram for reference helps. Air lines on shifter were switched so got that sorted so the 1974 has the Cummins 290 someone at auction jammed a rock behind decompressor so that was not to hard to figure out. i only paid $2000 and box will hold 800 bushels so all good.
My hat is off for you. What a hard job you have done al by yourself. Great job!!!
you are unbelievable ! not too many men out there could do what you do WOW
Love the channel
Keep the videos coming
Take care and stay safe!!! Thanks for sharing!
Man glad to see you back buddy! Be safe out there!
There's an old saying if you want to be a millionaire in trucking you better start with two or three million dollars with all the high costs of fuel maintenance and expenditures you will definitely go through two or three million dollars worth of expenses leaving you only with $1 million so at least you're still a millionaire in trucking
If it wasn't profitable I wouldn't be doing it. Set backs like that are surely frustrating though. I have had shippers try to tell me my costs when they think my rate is too high. I just laugh and say if you don't like my rate and someone else will do it cheaper I guess go with them.
@@Ezrider359 I love the people who say YOUR rates are too high while they just set all time profit margins in there company LOL
That saying is very true in the nitro top fuel drag racing world too.
Nice work, and keep hammering
Thanks for sharing.
I passed you on us 85 in north dakota last week. I delivered in williston and was deadheading bact to mn for my reload. would have said hi on the cb but mine wasn't working at the time.
Is good that you do your own repairs you save a lot of money. I really like your truck. It’s a beautiful truck and you’re a cool guy.
Some tough times, know how that feels. All the best man.
new subscriber.. u are very knowledgeable ...very cool
You sir are one hard ass worker. Good luck with the truck. Hopefully you can get some trouble free miles now. Always enjoy the videos.
Surprised the 1850 don’t hold up , usually pretty durable and you have a cooler on it , hopefully the 2000 lasts longer 👍🏽
Good job, Sr. Keep showing us how it is done. Stay safe.
Another kick ass video Holy shit brother you made that look too easy Look forward to the next video 👍👍
Nice work!
The truck looks great Ezrider359. Great work. Safe travels. Cheers.
great video
Good to see ya EZ although I hate it is under these circumstances. You are looking tired brother, the life of a hustler!!! Keep up the hard work brother, hard pressed to find a harder worker in the industry without question
that's a ruff week . good luck out there
Damn it man trucker luck brother
Thanks for sharing EZ. I was going to blame the failure on forged chineseium metal parts used today for rebuilding stuff. But, as you said that cat is putting out a couple of horses. She’s a beast!
Thanks!
I love ole red😊 Ezra, hate to see the problems, but you are a good knowledgeable person and glad you know how to fix stuff,I'll catch ya on the next one.
Sounds like youre having about as much fun as I am. If it can break, it will and did lol.
I guess keep on truckin is the obvious thing to say, after the mandatory slew of curse words.
Dude... I replaced rear main seal, clutch, and tranny like 2 months time. Temporary, i replaced the input shaft on the tranny when I did the rear main and clutch. I think I spent like $10,400. Rear main seal, upgraded clutch, upgraded tranny. I went from 1650 lbs torque to the nice 2050 lbs torque. I love the way you just say "flip" it, I'll manhandle it. The 20918 tranny is almost correct. 20... 2050 lbs feet torque, 9 stands for 9 splines "grooves"(for the unknowing" and 18 is for how many gears... 18 speed yo.
the 9 isn't the splines its the series of the transmission. basically what generation in other words. its a 10 spline input. if you want to get real technical eaton calls it a design level .
love that truck
Costly for sure, but a good upgrade now!
Thanks for sharing even the bad news but I know that you will get old red on the road again
I'm glad everything worked out for you Ezra, Nobody likes break downs of any kind but you are very fortunate that you can fix most of your breakdowns yourself, and it looks like you do it very well. I had a thought on your compressor exploding, although thankfully it has not happened to me, i was told by a few fella's that it happens because of back pressure feeding back to the compressor, I don't have enough mechanic skills to know where back pressure would even be coming from, I don't know if this will help you but if it does let me know I am curious if they are right. I hope your breakdowns are done for a long while Ezra ride easy my friend.
You got the job done that's all that's important . If I lived near you I would have offered you a hand stay strong brother.
Hey there bud! Look time...
probably best to change the other 5 air bags on the trailer. 10 years ago I bought a brand new not rebuilt RTLO18918-B transmission for my 1994 Peterbilt 379 with a 3406E 5EK engine. cost me $9000.00 just for the transmission. original one was a 16718 speed. had 800,000 miles on it before it failed. Hard to believe you would have over 2000 lbs. of toque in that engine buy maybe you do.
Your a hard worker man. You are going to be feeling that job for the next few days.
I felt it for a few days slept on a heating pad the first night...lol
I might have missed it in the video, but I assume that’s the skip you were noticing in the power divider?
No separate issue
Great vid. 👍
Wishing you better luck Ez Rider. Hopefully you can make your money back asap. Thanks for sharing driv,ah.
Can't complain it is a working truck and all is running well
Love your videos bud! Your a actual driver (not a steering wheel holder) great mechanic! Keep up the good content ive learned lots from your videos so id like to thank you. 👍🏼
I lick the window 🤤
@@Ezrider359 haha
That’s Jimmy’s job…! 👅🐾🐾
Now that's true trucking for ya lol lol been there done that hopefully u get a good run now and put some cash back into the bank we all hope for more good than bad sometimes keeping on top of things get some watt stressful but if u luv watt u do we just keep heading forward good luck ...keep the videos coming when u can always enjoy watching them I do feel for u sometimes tho ..
When i put a clutch in or transmission. I lightly coat the input splines with anticease. Makes alignment much easier .
Trouble comes in threes so should good to for another year lol your friends must love you you can fix anything
Alright, Old Red!! Coffees on! Here we go! Cheers!;-)!!!
Some more quality work iv learned over the years bigger is always better in my area if your not running 46 rears and minimum 16 front you don't have a truck and with big power you need gears and I notice too your hauling probly quiet a bit heavier then most states so that all plays a part that one issue with building a truck to the extent like Ole red you try going Thebes cost effective route where in theory should be good but then she goes all truck on you and craps on your weekend plans lol
I got a reman from inland and had a bearing go out on the right counter shaft. They tried every excuse to get out of warranty. They patch their reman stuff together to get it out the door.
That old kitty cater got some power
Take it back to where you bought the transmission from, and ask for a refund. Its basically new...! Nice to see a new video again😎
Dang, a rough go of it for sure. The fun side of trucking - NOT. Well, 'they' say bad things come in threes.... bad tranny, blown air compressor, and a blown air bag. Lets hope that's the end of problems for awhile. Keep the faith, glad to see you're getting back to editing some more videos. Cheers!
