    I prefer the SX because of that smooth low end. Great review!!

    I guessed the comparison. CAD is less sibiliant

    I think you've managed to make the e100sx sound better than other CZcams reviewers, and it does sound really good from here...

      @@JamesYounger So the question is this: should a micoholic with too many mics already take the plunge and buy one? I'm impressed by both the smoothness and the sides and back rejection. (I don't often use a fan.)

  • @CoffeeConversationMusicGear

    @JamesYounger I totally got it wrong. I thought “B” was Rode NT1 but it was the Cad e100 sx because of the tightness of sound. Man! That blew me away how good it sounds! Both mics are winning!

    Great review, James. Just grabbed this off your link. Always wanted to get one. Sounds really good here close up, also.

    I guessed the comparison wrong :’) I had a CAD E100s as a starter microphone and while I thought it was great, it sounded like my voice was thinned out compared to my current mic. But that could also be attributed to the hi-pass I always had switched on during my time using it! Or…maybe not, I’m not an audio engineer lol

    • @JamesYounger
      @JamesYounger  Před rokem

      Maybe it just didn't suit your voice? I actually don't really like how my voice sounds on the 416 and I also didn't like how my voice sounded on my Aston Origin.

  • @jessebbedwell
    @jessebbedwell Před rokem +2

    When doing the comparison test, I always listen for what I like in a the mic instead of what it may be. Good thing for me, I much preferred the Rode NT1 (just bought one) over the CAD.

    • @JamesYounger
      @JamesYounger  Před rokem +1

      I mean you really can't go wrong with the Rode NT1. It's still my favorite mic!

  • @mattcero1
    @mattcero1 Před rokem +1

    The blind tests were more profound than you non blind side by side comparison. I liked the CAD and thought it was fuller and had more power.

    This mic sounds amazing man! It's only 84$ on Amazon too. Do you use a pop filter when using it, because those plosives are wild.

    • @JamesYounger
      @JamesYounger  Před 3 měsíci

      I don't use one but this is one of the few mics where I suggest using one if you're not good about staying in one place. The plosives are definitely insane with this mic haha.

    Awesome video, James! As usual! Gutted! Got it wrong, James! I got them switched up. No excuses…..I was listening on a iPad that said. Anyway, great video! Loved the airplane bit! 😂 I picked up the NT1 5th Gen….Will be putting it through it paces when I get some time. Will you **actually** be using the E100SX over your NT1 5th Gen?? Be honest with me now! Errr….Final thought….Are you planning to release any merch??

    • @JamesYounger
      @JamesYounger  Před rokem +1

      Man, I always so appreciate your comments! Thank you so much! I really hope you've been doing well! Full honesty, I thought I'd use it a lot but the capsule is SOOOOOOO venerable and sensitive that I can't have my fan on in my room because the wind from the fan will actually blow into the capsule causing problems. It doesn't happen with my other mics so the CAD E1100SX will only be used in certain controlled scenarios for me :( I do love the way it sounds other than that though!

    I'm late on this one but I've been interested in both mics for some time. I like the bottom end on the CAD SX, but the Rode, at least with your voice, gave more life to your voice IMHO. BTW, did you acoustically treat the ceiling in your closet? I've treated my closet but I'm hesitant about the ceiling because I don't want to ruin the texture by gluing foam panels etc. Peace.

    • @JamesYounger
      @JamesYounger  Před 10 měsíci

      I agree as much as I like the CAD I still prefer the Rode after more time with it. Now, I'm just guessing without hearing your audio but in most cases people don't end up needing to treat their ceiling unless it's a really low ceiling or you're really tall. I didn't treat mine and the vast majority of my clients/students didn't have to treat theirs.

    When you are in a room with bad acoustics, getting closer to the mic will kill most of the echo.

    • @JamesYounger
      @JamesYounger  Před 6 měsíci

      Yes, but unfortunately not when your have to really project and yell like voice actors do for a lot of scripts and reads.

      I personally use the Rode PSA1+ and love it!

  • @theglobalzrecordingproject

    The NT1 has a touch of brightness to it when compared to the SX. Not as bright as some of the Lewitt line, but it seems to me RODE packs that trait into a fair number of their stuff. Gotta say the SX sounds good on your voice. CAD gear is really interesting as is this mic. I wonder why it doesn't ship with a foam wind screen? They have one available that fits it well. CAD can hit some home runs - not always, but they are a company to watch.

    • @chanselur
      @chanselur Před 7 měsíci

      U shouldnt use a foam wind screen it would lose the little high end it has
