It's really hard to fathom the fact that this band was only together for 5 years....its fricken impressive
Just like One Direction.
@@chancemiller9340 You are comparing apples and oranges.
I like you thought petter kgbmsu
But boy what a 5 year run! Talk about making a huge impact in a short time!
@@-dimitris More like apples and vomited rotten oranges.
It's really amazing how I like 100% of The Smiths's songs.
As objective as I can be, they might have 2 bad songs. Everything else is top notch. No other band can match the quality track by track.
it is....wow great for you....you are so special and i bet they 100 percent like you ...maybe not
Not keen on Frankly Mr Shankly, but apart from that
Same here, most of Morrisey's solo work is pretty good too imo.
Exactly:)
Great band. I love how a new generation discovers them!😁
@BILLY Times Im not the only one then Im 55 and my 16 year old Daughter loves The Smiths .
I am 16 and I love the Smiths so muchhh
@@ninadubuisson5711 Yes I discover The Smiths and I have also 16
One of the best group
I'm 32 and my parents played The Smiths for me since I was a baby. I've loved them for as long as I could fathom. Still one of my top 10 bands/music artists.
Of course, only those within the ranks of the newer generations which possess keen musical taste and knowledge will come to know Sir Moz and Sir Johnny. Thank God!
This charming man . An absolute masterpiece. The guitar is a one in a million.
Yes, Johnny is a great guitarist. Love this band.
The bass is pretty nice as well.

Totally disgusting song. The boring guitar. The flowers. The horrible voice. The shriek. The lyrics. This band sucks out loud.

This needs a pin/sticky
Andy Rourke doesn’t get enough recognition, amazing bass playing.
Or money!!!!
As a bassist, I find him a constant inspiration
Same with Mike Joyce, a brilliant tight nit band, just a shame the other two got ripped off from Morrissey and Marr, even Ringo got a fairer cut for yellow submarine and octopuses garden from Lennon and McCartney. Good on Joyce for getting his share through having to sue.
@@alternativaliguria Marr wrote the bass arrangements..... Therefore Marr is your inspiration.
@@brianwilkinson8952 They agreed to the cut they got in the first place, the band was Morrisey and Marr who wrote everything including the bass and most of the drum arrangements. The band obviously became more successful than they were expecting when they agreed to join for 10%. They were in effect, permanent session musicians for Morressey and Marr, nothing more, and they were more than happy with that until the 90's....
Johnny Marr’s guitar playing is heart touching idc what anybody says
He’s so underrated- without his magickal guitar, The Smiths would be a much different band.
@@denahcampbell how is marr underated? ? He is held highly by all !!
@@thisishowitfeels6313 well in most cases, people think The Smiths is Morrissey only; I actually wasn’t commenting to get agreement, just my observation but thanks.
@@thisishowitfeels6313 Exactly. Modest Mouse picked him up for a reason.
100% agree!
I was too young to appreciate Morrisey and the Smiths when they were in their prime but I love listening to their music now😎🎶🎧
The Macc lads are more ironic 😁
Yes, I am also VERY late to this party but I got here!
Without doubt one of the great bands.
Smiths brings a melancholy and a longing for times that never return.
it is we who make the time, it does not exits after all. all there is is now.

Found them late in life but at least i found them! Thank you jonny marr and morrisey your voice is beautiful x
Four supremely talented musicians who produced a body of work that has yet to be replicated. Nobody's even come close.
Not even Lennon McCarthy Harrison Starr?
Or Waters Gilmour Wright Mason?
@@rhodigian Who? 😁 Yeah, I agree. I love the Smiths but that's a big call. And Dua Lipa? Oh, please.
@@dwr4992 Anyway. The Smiths are in that league.
@Shivani Mehmi shes a good singer but shes not even close to be as good as the smiths
@Shivani Mehmi have you been shot in the head before ?
Im a total metalhead/punk fan but i really dig the Smiths👍🏻that says a lot about their music. Still holds up too
Hell to the yes!
I'm kind of the same.
I've been a metalhead/punk fan since I was 12, and I'm 50 now, but The Smiths have always done it for me
That's because sam squanch (funny)
Johnny marr is such brilliant song crafter. His skills can be appreciated by the metalest of heads.
For me, the Smiths wasn't a case of love at first listen. As a punk/metal fan, I thought their music was too jangly, too airy, too cerebral. But now those are precisely the qualities I love about them.
The Smiths! The power and energy is as strong as ever. I’m a fan of Dylan, Morrison, Lennon etc but no-one’s words have ever ‘gripped me’ or got inside me like Morrissey’s. I can’t imagine ever not loving The Smiths
Except that now Morrissey is an admitted virulent British nationalist / white supremacist.
If only morrissey and Marr could play together 1 more time...

Please, Please, Please.....one of the best short songs ever made.
The best song ever
It's very earnest.
Great group, a lot of genious music. "Girlfriend in a Coma" is their best music. One of the Greatest Music Group of All Times. Thank you The Smiths !

No one can deny this is quality......What an album!
WHY THIS SONG IS ACCURATE TO ADOLESCENTS FEELINGS it rlly scares me how universal music can be
Man I am getting old, but this still sounds like it did when I first heard it.......
100% agreed...as if the time machine has finally been invented...
Me too! Came back to my Smiths. Feeling nostalgia tonight.
Always sounds like the first time to me.
In a gay bar playing this in the corner to get some tunes in before I have to go back to pretending I only love disco, drag music and mainstream. Thank you...alternative music. I thought when I came out this stuff would be all over gays bars. Nope. Only Madonna, Cher, disco etc. Love it too. I just have to dance alone to The Smiths.
Doesnt it? This takes me back to 85 and 86. Louder than bombs with the orange album cover and meat is murder LPs
For me , the very best band in the 80,s
Punctured bicycle. A fantastic opening start to any piece of music that could ever be.

Love this brings back so many great memories!
Wow...the nostalgia. The 80's were THE absolutely best times of my life. While I was not a Smith's fan, it amazes me how many songs I know...maybe from radio back then or MTV? It's sad that they weren't together too long and then got into one of those financial squabbles with each other. And now Andy has already passed on. I sure hope they all made their peace with each other. ❤🙏
So good songs and None one of them about love, perfect
I've never heard that version of "Some Girls." You just made my day! Love it.
It’s from their last concert in 1986. I’m sure it’s the only time they have ever played it
Conheci essa banda através do Renato Russo durante uma entrevista ele disse que Legião se inspirava nessa banda e simplesmente me apaixonei ❤

Morrissey, Marr, Rourke, and Joyce were all great together. The Smiths a great alt band. All four should be on the cover.

Morrissey and Marr the greatest duo since Batman and Robin 🤣♥️ astonishing lyrics and music, never ever will be bettered, I just adore this version of some girls 🥰it sounds like a lot of fun for a band who are supposedly morose and morbid😂😂 heaven knows I'm happy now ♥️👏🍻
Love this collection! I also love the live version arrangements of some of these songs, on the album "Rank". Over the years, I've come to prefer the "Rank" versions to many of the original studio versions, for example, "Boy With the Thorn In His Side" is awesome with Johnny Marr's more prominent electric guitar playing the signature riff. But one exception to that is "Bigmouth Strikes Again". Mike Joyce's funky bass line on that first breakdown part, underpinning Johnny Marr's awesome rhythm guitar riff, is just awesome on the studio album version from "Queen is Dead". But on the live "Rank" version, for some reason Mike seems to simplify that bass part and doesn't play the slap notes. Otherwise, love "Rank" and if anyone loves the Smiths but have not given a listen to it, I def. recommend it.
this reminds of patrick bateman's monolog before he murders that dude
Good to know that drummer Mike Joyce played bass too
It does not get Better! Love the Smiths...
