This time, we're covering the Remington 870 MCS.
Black Ops 2 marks the Remington's debut in Call of Duty - a pump-action weapon similar in role to the Stakeout in Black Ops.
The Remington 870 MCS - or Modular Combat Shotgun - is an American weapon, with the original 870 design dating to 1951.
It is Remington's flagship shotgun, and holds the record for the best-selling shotgun in history.
The MCS configuration is a more recent introduction, with the first such systems delivered in 2004.
Intended for military use, the MCS has the basic 870 action at its core - but comes with number of configuration options to help fit any role.
With the option of 3 barrel lengths, a pistol grip, fixed or adjustable stock, amongst a whole host of other options - the MCS is a versatile platform, capable of firing a wide variety of 12 gauge cartridges.
In-game, the Remington is a high damage shotgun - easily capable of one-shot kills at a close range.
This damage quickly falls off, however - after just a few metres you'll find opponents need multiple shots to kill, and beyond that your pellets will fail to find their mark altogether.
Shotguns trade long range utility for one-shot power, so you should seek to engage enemies at a close a range as possible.
This one-shot potential is particularly important considering the Remington's very slow rate of fire - the pump-action requires a new round to be manually rechambered for every shot fired, limiting your output to just 80 rounds per minute.
Hipfire spread is moderate - and with greater divergence than in previous titles, resulting in somewhat inconsistent performance from the hip.
Aiming down your sights now confers a significant narrowing of pellet spread: so for consistent kills towards the edge of your effective range, it is definitely best to aim.
Thanks to the slow rate of fire, recoil isn't a factor: your aim will recentre long before the next round is ready to fire.
Aim time is the same as the assault rifles, at 250 milliseconds: and movement speed is the same too, at 95 percent of the maximum base speed.
Magazine capacity is the lowest within the shotgun category, at 8 rounds - although the slow rate of fire will help prolong this.
Extended Clip will take this to 11 rounds instead - although this attachment is less useful for the Remington, as reloads are conducted shell-by-shell.
It takes 0.92 seconds for the first shell to insert, and 0.52 seconds for every subsequent one - this means a complete reload is a lengthy procedure, but quick partial top-ups can be done within a few seconds.
It is a good habit to keep the tube topped up, then - should you run into a larger group of unaware opponents, it is best to have as many rounds at your disposal as possible.
Good map knowledge is essential when using the shotguns - your goal should be to hit your enemy from an unexpected angle: strike from behind and force foes with long-range weapons into uncomfortable closer quarters.
Stick to interior locations, and avoid sprinting through tighter spaces: instead keep your gun ready to preserve your time-to-kill advantage.
When forced to traverse open areas, it's best to take it quickly: sprint via the shortest route to a covered location, to minimise the time you spend exposed.
With crafty routes you can evade your enemy's sights, and leverage the shotgun's fearsome power.
The Remington 870 MCS is a potent shotgun with a significant one-shot kill range.
Only the KSG can reach further, but the Remington has the advantage of firing multiple pellets, reducing the need for precision aiming.
This shot spread is useful in close-quarter situations, allowing snap shots from the hip to instantly kill, and denying the enemy a chance to fire back.
Of course, you can't always guarantee close quarter gunfights - and outside of a short range you will be very vulnerable.
Random shot spread means hipfire can sometimes be inconsistent, too - and the slow rate of fire means that you quickly lose your time-to-kill advantage when your first shot fails to kill.
Still, not even the SMGs can compete with a well-placed hail of buckshot at a close range.
So, if one-shot lethality and fast-paced gameplay is your thing, get close with the Remington...
...and pump some action into your performance.

Pump shotguns are supposed to be one hit kills. The problem isn't the weapon, but the maps. Small maps favor shotguns.

I've been a fan of COD since the original black ops. I'm a old guy (57) but I manage to do well by playing to my strengths. Your videos have been most insightful and have helped me choose the weapons that best suit my style of play. Hey stu, i almost finished all the gold guns, the last category is shotguns, and i needed one shot kills with the low damage shotguns, so i started playing hardcore. I really liked it, so i also started using other weapons. Why don't you ever put at least Hardcore Damage Profile into your gun videos? It would make acting in hardcore really helpful. Also, especially for the shotguns, a more accurate damage profile would be nice.
I know I’m extremely late but in hardcore you have only 30% of the standard max health, so in theory even the SMR will one shot
bruh bo2 it's all about snipers you see them everywhere so the only way to defend myself is really with a shotgun that's the only reason why I started using it
True, snipers are buffed compared to bo1, but then again nearly everything is buffed and the more powerful ones are bolt action with much more punishing missed shots. If you’re having trouble with one, try juking and flanking

This gun is far from OP. Although it is deadly in close range, like a shotgun SHOULD be, but outside that range, you are basically screwed. Even at close range, the inconsistency in the hip fire and massive penalty for missed shots balances it even further.
That is what it made the gun amazing fun because no one wants to mess with a experienced r870 user.

That’s why I only ever used the KSG on BO2, I barely ever got a hitmarker with it, although it took a lot more coordinated skill, and was less accurate, it was still worth it over BS hitmarkers

I remember the first time I picked this up in my earlier days of BO2. I was incredibly surprised at how good this was. I was even more surprised at how often I'd get one-shotted by it in return. This shotgun saw me through countless Chaos Moshpit games.

I like your class but I'd give up fast mag for the Long Barrel. For the perks I'd use Ghost + Flack jacket and Dexterity + Tactical Mask.

The 870 is a great shotgun, sort of a middle of the road. In terms of attachments I would do the Fast Mag and Long Barrel combo to improve range the speed of reload.

Other weapons may take more actual shots to kill, but they are infinitely easier to use thanks to their generous magazine sizes and automatic (usually) fire modes. The pellet shotguns are only effective within 15-or-so meters, and of that their OHK range is only about 10 meters. If your first shot fails to kill you are certainly going to lose the gunfight. AR's and, to a lesser extent, SMG's can be effective at every range if used properly. They're easier to use, and are more consistent.

Working my way through the shotties, in order to get diamond, and I used this for the first time, today. Most fun I've had with the game.
This is my favourite of your weopon guides. Although I use a slightly different class, putting the ghost perk on was genius. They never know where I am untill their dead. The tactics you said really helped me out too, and my class is extremely similar and everything you used is very useful. I love the R870 and this guide

those Fiber Optic Sights are the default Iron Sights. no need for an attachment dude.

JPdubs PDubs I think you should look at your comment again. It sounds like you're saying finding and using an OP setup makes no difference compared to using a normal setup (which totally makes no sense because it determines how many streaks that player gets).

Always when I watch a XboxAhoy video I wish to play Black Ops 2.
Wish there was another COD like MW2, Black Ops, and Black Ops 2. That was the golden era for me. Granted, World at War was my favorite campaign, those three games had the best multiplayer in my opinion. Some of my favorite memories of partying up with my buds and spending hours each night playing search and destroy together.

1 month ago I posted how I use this kind of class. I changed it again to fit into 10 points. pretty much the same idea but more balance to limited points. the Remington 870 with the long barrel and the quickdraw. secondary is the Five Seven with dual wield. lightweight, fast hands and extreme conditioning. 1 frag and a smoke grenade, and no wildcards. a Tomb Raider class build, focusing on mobility and power. 32 shells, plus over 160 pistol rounds can take me through long score streaks if I can survive that long. I find the laser sight has very limited benefit on the shotguns, I find that range and reactivity is a better bonus. I still hipfire when I absolutely need to but I always find that aiming down the sights grants much more versatile performance.
I miss this game and this gun, the first gun in any CoD game that I cared to Diamond.

I loved this weapon in black ops 2. It was deadly. It was powerful. It looked beautiful all bedazzled down! I loved running around with this gun with small killstreaks. Because I would stack the death toll high up into the air. And if I died, they got me. But those killstreaks would just keep stacking again. Amazing weapon. I become so addicted to this weapon that I would rock it on any map. I played the hell outta team death match. Simple, and easy game mode. Hella fun to. But man this shotgun stole my heart. And then I used it to steal other peoples hearts. Occasionally, and more often than not, I would also die a lot. It’s so addicting to run into the wild of team death match guns blazing. I hated it when people would kill me, pick up my R870 in the killcam, I would be like: “oh hell nah...I’m coming for you.” Man I loved body order 2. It was great as it was silly, because this game taught us a lot about curiosity and the shit other players do sometimes makes ya laugh 😂 man people did the silliest shit ever in this game with the shields. Random C4 puncakes. And the emblems, oh the emblems in this game. We had so many layers. Of course some other games offer a shit ton more of emblem features. But nonetheless, great weapon. It was sexy as it was fun to shoot and use. Everyone got a 12 gauge wound, you die, he dies, they died, I died several times, then 2 double dies, a triple die, I’m killed by a hunter killer drone, and the cycle of life and death repeats just like Nature intended. Beautiful fun with that gun, that good R870. Never play on nuketown without it. I never played a game without this gun, I became an addict. An R8 addict. Don’t be like me. Cause I love fun shot gun battles on highjacked. I’ll fight you on nuketown. Any map is a fun map! You will die a lot though but it’s way to fun to stop! lol 😂 and we had bacon 🥓 camo. Yes. Bacon camp. It was delicious.

2:34 For a shotgun to use a true "clip" (like a stripper clip), it would most likely have a fixed internal box mag and would load down the top. Speedloaders for pump guns exist. They usually hold four rounds. Experts can load in the blink of an eye using a speedloader. The trouble with those things is they're cumbersome to carry. Also, there's no way to fit 11 shells into a mag tube that fits flush with an 18.5" or 20" barrel. You could have a twin-tube pump gun with one barrel (like the Kel-Tec KSG, only it wouldn't have to be a bullpup) and have both tubes hold five shells each, then you'd get a total capacity of 11 rounds (5+5+1). Otherwise, the mag tube AND barrel, assuming they're flush-fit with each other, would be way too long for it to be used as a legit combat shotgun. Would make a great skeet gun, though.
*Edit/Note:* I'll never understand the appeal of "wrong-handed" reloads, nor the reason for repositioning the support hand to grasp the gun center-mass around the barrel and mag tube, only to have to re-reposition the support hand after loading. It just adds unnecessary steps to what should be a simple procedure. Paul Harrell illustrates all the best techniques for this sort of thing (and more).

Here are the minimum (highest damage per pellet) and maximum (lowest damage per pellet, pellets are 1 inch from disappearing) ranges of the Blops 1 shotguns, which were notoriously underpowered:
Olympia: 33.33 to 50 ft
Stakeout: 25 to 54.17 ft
SPAS-12: 25 to to 50 ft
HS-10: 25 to 50 ft
HS-10 Dual Wield: 16.67 to 41.67 ft
Masterkey: 25 to 41.67 ft
All of the shotguns have a one-hit kill range at LEAST up to their max damage per pellet range, and, in fact, past that as well due to linear dropoff.
The Remington M870 dates back to 1950, not 1951. The Remington M870 is also chambered for 16g, 20g, 28g, & .410.
as alternative to perk three I'd suggest a engi perk to identify enemy mines guarding their flanks as you move around them and an emp gernade to take them out
As someone who mains shotguns I can say this is a good vid. Tho for my personal style I use extreme conditioning over dead silence, and scavenger over a secondary.
Great Video, only difference is I use engineer instead of dead silence because so many people use shock charges and bouncing bettys. the Shotgun is absolute beast though!

Engineer allows you to spot those campers from a ways away, and by the time they hear you you're in 1-hit kill range with the R870/KSG and 2-hit for the S12 and M1216 so when they turn around after hearing something its directly into the face of a barrel and some buckshot.
Most of what he said i agree with but one thing he forgot to mention thats pretty big is that it is good to use fast mag. It lets you reload 2 shells at once other than 1. Use the one thing that lets you use 3 prim. attach. and use laser sight long barrel and the fast mag attachments seriously you will be getting a lot of kills and when it is time to reload you will get back in the game very fast. Take it from a MCS PRO
Same guy. I think Activision also hired him to do the Elite, shortened versions of his Black Ops 1 guides as well.
I don't for a few reasons.
1. Almost every single camping spot in the game has multiple entrances, so i'll go to the one without the trap, which probably the one to the side of where ever they're facing and rarely in the side-front.
2. Almost no one uses Claymores because of how ass they are and shock charges are the only traps that engineer doesn't work on.
3. I use Bouncing Betties to my advantage by activating them while i'm crouching to either kill or distract the person who planted them.
