What is the biggest thing you forget to do while riding? Let us know in the comments below!
Staying hydrated.
Forgetting not to panic when I get scared.
snacks, I always forget then regret it about 90 mins in
Heels down... gotta keep reminding myself. 😊
What helps me the most is "weigh the front". Years of being afraid and a few experiences of front wheel washouts and going out the front door makes you instinctively push away from danger and keep your butt back. When what you actually need to do is keep weight over the front wheel to increase traction and to avoid getting bucked over from the rear.
Yes you are right. I only point my heels down for big impacts or rocks fields. Yes being balanced on the bike is important but too much weight on the front or rear wheels is dangerous
My three things i remind myself of are, heels down, chin over stem and relax
New things to try
You know when you are in the right position when you can let go of the bars and you can keep yourself standing on the bike.
If you cant do this try the following: feet position on the pedals in a \ / shape. Which means front feet on / shape with dropped heels, back feet with dropped toes like so \
With this you can create cross-tension between the pedals. You will have such a stable firm "grip" on the rear of the bike that you will be able to lift the rear of it or stand on the bike while your arms arent even touching the bars.
ps: Also this is a key skill to learn carving corners like a pro
I have a trek marlin 8 2nd Gen ,I upgraded to 800 handelbar and a short stem and also put down the stem all the way and it really changed the body posision and totaly improved going up hill easyer and faster and have more control and can turn faster like to go around somthing quickly
So weird to see papago park in a gmbn video, thats where I learned to ride.
Tip 4 : have a little blaze before riding and watch how much your flow improves . Don’t go mad tho as too much and you won’t want to ride at all 😂
Ive seen a few ppl talk about wedging your feet into the pedals instead of both heals down. Only put your front foot heel down and rear foot heel up? Would this work better to keep your feet stuck on the pedals esp for flat pedals ?
I am no expert so only talking from personal experience. With heels down when it gets rough I am less fatigued.
@@notme-kc3pq i normally do heals down too but over the super rough stuff my rear foot all ends up bouncing off the pedal ......
@@justing6614 my version of rough may not be a rough as your version of rough 😀. Have you thought about clipless ? Again I am no expert, just a suggestion not advice. I have thought about it and am not going to bother.
La misma bicicleta solita te pide la posición correcta cuando la montas! Saludos!
Breathe 😅
I have a few beginners questions, probably laughably basic.
1. When I try and pedal standing up I feel like there is no feedback so my peddling is feels disjointed and super uncomfortable. Is there something I can do to help this other than increasing my gear ratio to the point I feel resistance against my heavier weight.
2. Whenever I look at the videos of people riding trails it seems like they are going so fast, on basically flat ground I can sustain about 7.5mph. Is this just a perception thing or how fast do I need to be able to ride to try some trails?
1. Not really, it's best to go up one or two gears when standing. 2. You gotta remember that you're looking at edited footage, nobody shows themselves going slow. Have fun riding, don't worry about how fast you look. Good luck.
1 you answered yourself! If you can’t create tension on the chain you’re in too easy of a gear.
My hands keep going numb. I even swapped to ergonomic grips and it made no difference.
I often forget my foot position .
riding with your heels down is a bad idea. look at Roxys method of the wedge method keeps your weight balanced on the front and rear of the bike
ok
I just need somebody riding behind me constantly yelling "elbows", then I might be an OK rider.
What's wrong with keeping your feet flat?
Your feet can come off easier when negotiating rougher terrain, especially when landing jumps and drops. Level terrain is fine for flat feet.
Dropping your heels also lowers your centre of gravity that bit more which is especially useful when you're braking hard, riding steep trails, cornering, etc.
I’m in need of a longer travel bike, shall I get one ?
comment yay or nay nay
If you can afford it
