  • Just picked up the Kuat Pivot v2. Awesome add on for any rack that you have if you want to be able to get it out of the way to gain access to the back of your vehicle.

    *I was expecting a lot of shortcuts to be taken at this price. I was wrong. Decent quality **Latest.Bike** raker . Easy on easy off.*

    I think the added benefit of installing the Pivot v2 is that it gives you that piece of mind that the trunk gate is now further away from the bike rack so that if you ever mistakenly push the open the trunk gate on your key fob, you have more than a split second to stop the opening.

    Dude that pivot is a super useful tool. Even with the ability to move my rack down, i consider my trunk off limits when bikes are mounted. Seems more convenient to move the whole rack outta the way.

    No way to bring the bike rack closer to the car? What if you cut the tube and made a new hole so it would slide further in ?

    • @mobikes1547
      @mobikes1547  Před 2 lety

      You cannot do that because of the flat lock cam system that keeps the rack from moving around. When I first installed it, I thought it seemed so far away, but I actually prefer it that way now. With it this far away, it allows me access to the back of my truck without having to move the rack, if I just want quick access. Jeep owners love the pivot, because it pushed the rack out past their spare tire...

  • @avongil
    @avongil Před 2 lety

    I see pictures of the V2 online with an added safety pin. Not sure why there is one with a pin and one without both labeled V2. I think Kuat needs to fess up to something. This one does not have it. The only thing keeping it from swinging out and hitting a car or something is the hold down latch that is not designed for sideways force. It is also subject to downward momentum, vibration and harshness. It will come undone - Murphy said so.

    • @mobikes1547
      @mobikes1547  Před 2 lety

      There is an internal catch as well. If you undo the latch it will not swing open, until you pull the handle. There is also a portion under the latch that keeps the vertical movement very small. With as much weight as there is (even with an empty rack) I do not see any possibility of the rack moving so much that it comes un-latched. I'm certainly not an engineer, nor work for Kuat, but I've driven my truck on some pot hole filled gravel roads and through plenty of fields with bikes bouncing around on the back, and never had any concern of it coming un-latched.

    • @mobikes1547
      @mobikes1547  Před 3 lety +2

      I hear ya. I was at first too, but the ability to get into the back of my truck easily far out weighs that gap. To be honest, I have come to really like the gap. I can easily get between the bikes and the truck to open my back glass to put something in or out of my truck. I did not love it at first, but I appreciate it now. If that makes sense. I say, if you can find one get it.

    • @paul_hd1875

      @@mobikes1547 Curious if a Tacoma tail gate would lie flat in that gap. Unlikely, but could be a silver lining. I appreciate the response, gonna have to give this product some consideration. RockyMounts makes a similar product, but I don’t believe there’s a huge gap. Would be a pain to have to sell my NV 2.0 and buy another rack... but it’s also an option. 😎🇺🇸

    • @mobikes1547
      @mobikes1547  Před 2 lety

    • @avongil
      @avongil Před 2 lety

      @@mobikes1547 can you explain how it locks in if you forget to latch it? that handle can certainly come undone by itself. As far as I can see, there is no backup saftey to that latch. I would put something around the arm as a backup.

    • @mobikes1547
      @mobikes1547  Před 2 lety +2

      @@avongil There is a metal plate that is under the pivot that has notches cut into it. When you first undo the latch you can move the rack an inch or so, but it is trapped inside that metal plate by a pin attached to a second latch. When you pull the second latch it pulls the pin out of the way and allows you to swing the arm out to 90* where it gets trapped again. As I said in your comment, there is no way that main latch is coming undone by itself. Cam latches like this have been around for a long time, and are extremely reliable.
