  • Super easy to assemble. Is the Kuat Piston Pro bike rack worth the price?

    I was hoping to show e-bike sturdiness when on rack.

    Great video, great rack! I have a 😅large e bike step through with 4 inch tires and fenders as well another regular step through bike. This seems to be my best option. It is pricey but quality plus. It will fit my 2 step through bikes- Another great feature are the taillights that sync with the brakes and blinkers as well. Lights are visible when rack is down or when stored in up position. Ramp is a needed option for large e-bikes imo.
    Also life time warranty.

    Great review! I just purchased this rack and have a Velotric Nomad 1 Fat Tire e-bike. it has a 26" wheel with 4" tires. It seems to be too big for the rack but according to Kuat, it should fit. E-bike has fenders and I noticed in your video, the rack doesn't seem to click and lock for the rear bike tower. Is this what the straps are for? to hold the clamp in place? If so, how does it prevent the bike from rolloing backwards and pushing the back clamp down since it is not locked?

    This is the Kuat piston pro x vs the piston pro which is $300 cheaper.

    Wow, they really thought of everything, this looks awesome. But I also feel like, just for 2 bikes, it's a bit expensive.
    Forgive me for my lack of knowledge, but why are there bike tires with inner tubes and without? What is the difference or why would you use one over the other?

    • @BasicBodThor
      @BasicBodThor Před rokem

      Bikes with tubes is more "traditional", the tube is what inflates and holds air. Upside is that if you get a flat, you just replace the inner tube and go on your way. Without tubes "tubeless", requires rim tape, a compatible tire and wheel combo and you put sealant inside. The idea being that if you get a puncture (assuming it's small), the sealant plugs the hole. You can also run lower tire pressures on a tubeless setup typically, as you aren't worried about pinch flats that are a risk with tubes (basically when the tire compresses so much that it pinches the tube and causes a hole). Downside to tubeless is that they require more maintenance (top up with sealant etc.). Really comes down to personal preference. I run a tubeless setup on my enduro bike, but have tubes on my hardtail trail bike.

    I have the Radrover and it's heavy, you'd make your life way easier if you reach down and grab the chain stay and easily lift the heaviest end of the bike. The ramp is not needed either, what I love most about my Kuat NV2 (this one seems similar) is the super wide center post. I can easily hold down my radrover rear brake and raise the front wheel and land it on the center post, I then reach down and grab the chain stay and simply lift the rear wheel and easily steer it into position and lock down. the NV2 seems more effective and cost less than this model. People need to focus on the process to load and unload versus buying unnecessary implements to give the impression of easier loading for heavier items.

    Also check out 1-Up (and QuikrStuff). Same design on which this was based off of and fully made in the USA. $1,400 is a ridiculous premium for unnecessary features so it could be hung off the back of RangeRovers at the trailhead.
