Franz Schubert String quartet No. 14 d minor, D810 'Death and the Maiden' I. Allegro Nachum Erlich Chamber orchestra of the Music Conservatory Karlsruhe Live Recording 24.1.2011 Crown Hall, Jerusalem
Sweet! Really nicely done! When I look away from the image it sounds like a professional, grown-up ensemble, the interpretation, the attention to detail in the performance.
For me, the orchestral version of this work is nothing like as good as the string quartet version. Not only is much of the poignancy lost, but in addition the balance of the instruments is very different from in the original - and there are even instruments (double bass) which aren't in the original at all! Anyone who likes this version but is unfamilar with the string quartet version should try it and see.
I thought this was going to be awful given the ensemble form (and the fact that the average age of players here is 14), but it was quite good. Far too fast, but good.
What an amazing performance!
The best version ever... well played and well recorded
Beautiful music. Bravo 👏👏👏🌹

@@nectarinepen I think she has already learned the difference between a song and a piece in the past 7 years.
it's not the quartet, but it's still brilliant and insightful on its own terms. Thanks!

Karlsruhe is the best! I like van Beek too. The auditorium is forbidding.
Dis be real nice. Schubert got some game. I mean, he's dead, but... you know.
A bit fast, but good non the less.
WIN
there's no double bass in this song...
