    I decided to try these paints as they seem to dominate in the market these days. Amazon and eBay sellers want $15 US a bottle. I don't care how good it is, it's not good enough to pay that much.
    So, I went to AK's website where they're a little over $5 a pop. I ordered six or seven colors, the thinner and primer. My wife said, wait till you see the shipping cost. It was about 20 bucks. Plus, and here's the best part, I submitted my order and had the paint in my hands in five days. With a packet of Haribo gummies. We're talking Spain to the U.S. Absolutely incredible customer service. Best I've ever experienced, and it was an international transaction.

    did some testing and had mixed results. I used your regular black fine primer and your protective varnish as a top-coat to make it glossy, then I airbrushed xtreme metal chrome over it and it just rubbed off in some spots. It sticks very well in some areas but rubs off with no effort at all in other areas. I also want to mention that the paint DEFINITELY dulls a lot when you clearcoat it. I used AK's own glossy protective varnish and it turned it from a mirror chrome to a kind of aluminium look.

    About not using primer ... I am actually making some tests on different kit brands to familiarize with alluminium colors, so the result was sucessful only when I used black base. In other cases, the metal particle is so sensitive to surfaces, and it "reveals" cement/putty spots, rubbing or sanding draws that weren't visible before. The quality is extreme, literally, but the use requires some (basic) skill and experience to get an amazing ending. I'm happy in general with this product, but not agree at all with some parts in this video.

    • @bummer6
      @bummer6 Před 2 lety +3

      I do not understand why the hell companies that make a genuinely good product feel the need to lie about features the product doesn't have. They could have just been up front about the need for a black glossy base and no-one would have complained.

      Ak Xtreme Metal Chrome & Polished) are differents to the rest of Xtreme Metal colors range.
      This is so to give that chrome gloss effect. To achieve this you need to apply black primer, but it does not serve anyone, it must be a primer made with solvents that aren't compatible with chromium and polished
      alumimium.
      Also for these two colors you have to apply in very thin layers.

    Sorry guys, but I am still having problems with the Xtreme metals. On the basis of your own video, and one of Flory Models who reviewed it recently, my Xtreme is *still* lifting with Tamiya masking tape. I know you had problems earlier in the year, so I don't know if what I have is of that batch, but it is not anywhere near as tough as your own site and Flory Models seem to suggest. Thankfully I didn't do it on my actual aircraft but a scrap wing: That said I have sprayed my actual model and am now reluctant to mask it. I used the black base and everything.
