I'm looking forward to watching more videos about Chinese food (if available, Cantonese restaurant will there be?). This video does help me build a cognitive standard for Michelin-star restaurants in different countries (I have not been to America, but at least I grew up in China,; I can imagine the taste level by your evaluation). Your videos in Bilibili do help me learn English about food, especially some authentic adjectives.

It looked really good to me, but I'm not familiar with many of the original versions of these dishes (except Mapo tofu!). You seemed to psychically answer most of my questions at the end - I had been wondering how locals would view this restaurant, but you summed things up pretty well! The only things I'd like to know is first, how difficult was it to make a reservation? How far in advance does it need to be done? Second, is there a Chinese equivalent of the Michelin guide (like the Australian Good Food Guide Chef Hat) or do people just get information on social media, like the little red book, about good restaurants?

I found the answer to my second question - The Black Pearl Guide. It seems hard to get information about which restaurants are on the list in English, though.

This one is pretty easy to make reservations for, I pretty much called in last minute. And yes, you are right, it is the Black Pearl Guide! Black Pearl Guide restaurants are generally pretty good and some restaurants are awarded with both Michelin and Black Pearl. Similar to Michelin, Black Pearl Guide uses a diamond system, from one diamond up to three diamonds corresponding to the stars, but there is no equivalent counterpart for Michelin's Bib Gourmand or recommendations.
Since Black Pearl is something the Chinese are trying to establish themselves and hasn't gone international yet, as a result, there is very little information on that in English. Worries not, I will be visiting some of those restaurants and you can see for yourself!

if you need to recommend foods to new people in China with your personal tastebuds preference, would you recommend them to follow the michelin guide or just ask the locals like you?

You should do a combination of both, like my channel 😂

@@kungfudunk94 if you want fancy ones, go with Michelin, if you want local food and cheap eats, always go with the locals.
