I got a BOBCAT with my Stickbow! Catch Clean Cook

- While out on a recent trip to south Texas, bowhunting hogs and javelina, I got a bobcat with my stickbow. I don't do much predator hunting but didn't want to let the chance pass. I tucked into the tall grass and squeaked out a predator call with my mouth and hand. After a short wait a big tom bobcat appeared crouched in the grass just 10 yards away. A few more quiet squeals like a rodent and the wild cat crouched and stalked closer. He turned to walk away and I drew my fire hardened hickory selfbow, squeaked once to stop him, and let the arrow fly. When I started the day, a bobcat catch and cook was the last thing on my mind. But with the cat on the ground I figured I'd give it a try. I've cooked and eaten mountain lion which is fantastic but I'd never had bobcat. I skinned it out and turned it over to Liz. You can see the full cooking video over on her channel.

Speaking to Clay’s point at the end. It always shocks me how people who have problems with what he’s doing don’t take into account the number of animals he saves by procuring his own protein. If you had to go to the store for your meat, way more animals would have to give their lives. Most hunters I know have more respect for animals than anybody else I know. I really appreciate your content, it’s entertaining, and inspiring.
Wait, he is hunting a species that is ever on the decline due to humanity’s greed and you think this is a good thing? How f kid up is that? I don’t care how many cows or pigs people eat but to hunting a species that is ever on the decline? That is f’n pathetic on my end.
@@darquone2238 what animal are you referring to? Bobcats are classified as “least concern.” Literally the opposite of endangered. Plus that is the one of most dense populations of Bobcats. And killing one animal and using all of that animal is not greed in my opinion.
@DarquOne, Clay specifically mentioned the fact that bobcats are extremely populous in that area, nor is he merely killing an animal for sport. It’s food for him and his family. I live in Britain, where hunting with a bow is illegal, yet mass farming with inhumane conditions for the animal is legal and promoted. I would much rather eat a bobcat that I’ve ethically killed myself, over an unhappy cow or pig. And no, I’m not a vegan or vegetarian. I just think that actually stalking, killing, butchering and eating the animal (with respect to it) is far less pathetic than going to a store and buying a piece of meat without even caring.
But thanks for sharing your skewed perception of reality. 👍🏻
@@darquone2238 you should do some research before opening your mouth. In the state he is hunting there is an estimated population of over 200000 bobcats. Which there are only 3 states with populations over 200000. So don’t be saying stuff you know nothing about. If your going to sit on your butt all day, and complain about what someone does on the internet, you would be better learning some FACTS!
@@darquone2238 You have no idea what you are talking about. There's a reason you can hunt bobcats all over the states. Cougar can be hunted YEAR round in the state I live in. You don't care how many pigs and cows are slaughtered every day and you also don't care how dumb you are either.
Really cool to see the whole process all the way to the dinner table and even sharing what looks like an awesome recipe!!! Great vid!
Thanks again clay I've been shooting Long bows since 1965 still shooting at 68 years old keep on with the video's a Great blessing
At first I thought it was complete nonsense but you convinced me. Great shot and what a good hunter you are ! Thanks
That was a VERY good shot. The cat went 'out like a light'. Which is the best way.
Spotted it. Called it in. Fantastic shot. Great hunting Clay.
as a longbow shooter i appreciate all your videos!)
Great head shot bro on that bob cat!
A lot of trad archers from RUssia are actually watching you. Always amazing videos with soul )
Many thanks

I would like to point out how much I love you bringing us home with you in most of your videos. It’s great for you to take us on the hunt with you then take us to the dinner table with you and your family. Thank you for your education and making time for us.
Great shot Clay! Thank you so much for putting up these hunting videos, as it is informative beyond any explanation or story of a hunt and what goes into it. People like to get into their feelings, when they are most of the time entirely un/misinformed on these animals and the habitats in which they live in.
Clay man, you are a predator.. bobcat with a stickbow... impressive
Thanks man. Love your content. Love your approach to hunting. Love the message you're sending out to the world. You're doing a good thing here Clay.
I agree, bobcat is delicious! Great presentation on the meal
I recently read Howard Hill’a book and he said he really liked hunting bobcats. To be able to watch someone on video take one using traditional equipment is a pretty awesome thing! Hats off to you
THE HARD WAY is a great read.
this channel is a gift
Great hunt and shot. I eat bobcat myself. Lots of folks thought I was crazy until they tried it.
That's a big bobcat! And the food looks amazing. I was really hoping you'd get a mountain lion on alone. I know it's nearly impossible under those conditions, but damn that would be cool to see!
It sure would
Congratulations on the cat! Another great video.
I’ve also squeaked in some opportunistic predators when hunting deer or turkey. I’ve also taken bobcat, but never with the bow.
However, they never made the table. Just put them up and sold them. Those that I know who have eaten them claim they are very good. Several trappers swear bobcat and beaver are their favorite meals.
Thanks for sharing
Dude, I cannot believe you got a shot on a bobcat with a stick bow , You are the man.
And even better you turned it into table fare for the family
😊
Beautiful hunt, beautiful shot. Really great to watch. I’ve done a lot of bird hunting in west Texas, and trust me, we do t lack for bobcats here in Texas. We have plenty in my urban neighborhood in Dallas!
I had a landscape customer in McKinney who seriously had a family living in a ditch behind her terrorizing her dogs!
Your lucky and blessed to have a wife especially nowadays who not only cooks wild game for you and eats it as well👍🙏
You got that right!
Inspiration like this is what America needs, to stretch our spectrum of what is possible. Our forefathers probably wouldn't have given it a second thought to set a table with whatever was brought in. Our mindset has been corrupted with modern society. A simpler life is was we all should strive for. Great video. And are you hunting public land?
I usually hunt public but this was on private land
Got a bobcat with my recurve years ago. Shot was at 21 feet. One of my all time favorite trophies
Man what cool video!!! To be on foot and call in a predator, then bean it with a stick bow…. That is an accomplishment!
Shout out to the cook… she is amazing!
Agreed
those enchiladas looked CRAZY good! nice shot on that bobcat too. south texas is loaded with them and you helped out the turkey and quail population by taking one off that property
Nice to see you are harvesting a renewable resource!
Long tail tacos are some of my favorite ways to cook cougar, bobcat is great too. I've never taken either with a bow let alone a self made bow, great shot you made on the bobcat and I'm looking forward to your wife's video. Great content
Well done! Bobcat is a fantastic meat. Absolutely love getting out with the trad bows too. I've hunted with a longbow my whole life and totally love it.
I "got" a bobcat? No dude, you killed a bobcat. Own it.
Those critters kill alot of fawns and no one traps or hunts predators anymore , so they aren't kept in check like coyotes. Thanks for taking us with you , spot him call him kill him , that's a skill few have , nicely done clay .
That's an awesome bobcat! Gorgeous fur & the meat is surprisingly delicious! Super cool hunt
I love your channel and I’ve learned so much from you and your family and I was rooting for you the whole time on alone, your amazing, and keep up with the great work
Just want to start off by saying I love your content, it's fucking awesome! Appreciate the love and passion you have.
If you, Mr. Clay, read this I would honestly like to know if when you approach your kill thank you gives thanks for the journey and nourishment it'll give you for another day. I'm mexica/Apache and grew up on doing so with my family. These beautiful animals deserve that appreciation and again I thank you for your approach, sir. Look forward to more!
Of course. I just don’t show much of it because, in my opinion, it’s become kind of disingenuous and cliche in many hunting videos.
Hey Clay man I love your videos and I think you and your family are all awesome! I’m in the process of making me a hickory self bow and your videos helped me 💯 percent!!!
Heck yeah!
Another awesome video Clay, thnx for sharing. Those enchiladas looked outstanding
That was an awesome hunt on that bob cat , dropped it in its tracks great video!
Remember folks, meat thermometer...160 f internal temp and you too can avoid trichenosis (Or however it's spelled).
Made my mouth water. Thanks Clay
Looks yum. Never had bobcat tortillas. I just make it stew . Good job
"Pretty freaking awesome"-UNDERSTATEMENT OF THE CENTURY!
😆
If bobcat is anywhere close to mountain lion it has to be delicious!!! Nice shot Clay.
Beautiful shot, bro!! Don't ya love it when circumstances come together nicely!!😎
Nice hunt, nice shot and best of all.....nice wild game food. Looks great. I would chow down with that any day.
Clay I wanted to thank you. I have been subscribed to your Channel for a little bit now. I like your advice on aiming and bow tuning. I have been using your method of aiming for a couple of weeks now. I have improved by quite a bit. I am consistently hitting a paper plate at 30 yards. I am confident enough now to hunt with my bow. Before your videos I didn't trust my accuracy enough to hunt. The last thing I want to do is wound and not kill. Well I will cut this short lol. Thank you. You have helped this old silver back more than you know. I have been telling all my ironworker buddies all about you. I hope it gets you more subscribers.
Glad to help Ronnie
I had my first opportunity to get one in my 56 years of hunting this week also, and at 20 feet at that. I couldn't bring myself to shoot it with my 45acp, but I would have taken the shot with my recurve bow. It was just amazing to see one up close.
THIS is life.
not McDonalds
thank you for your attention
(great video ❤)
Great shot, very clean and quick. Food looked superb. Wouldn't like to leave the oven on for 10 hours mind you with energy prices as they are of late.
Great hunt. I take the back straps from the bobcat and slice them into strips for stir fry. It is absolutely amazing.
Love your videos, you inspired me to start bow hunting when I watched you on Alone, keep up the good work!
Thank you Clay for taking the effort of sharing this adventure with us. Really exciting and the food part is just unexpected, but you have my respect.
The hunting situation and regulation is absolutety not comparable with our German laws and animal population.
Bobcats and wolves slowly re-occupy the woods after being extinct for over 100 years. Bobcats were released from breeding in zoos.
These predators are not even on the list of species for hunting, though single problem-wolves or -bears have been taken out by hunters with extra permit. These animals had killed sheep, cows and horses. Bow hunting is illegal, too, but limited experimental compound bow hunting for wild boar in big city parks is allowed, because rifle hunting would be too dangerous there.
But I‘m just a bowyer, not a hunter anyway.
Thanks Christian
Pretty awesome Clay - bobcat with the long bow thats pretty epic! Great job and great capture on film!! 🤝
Thanks 👍
I’ll eat anything, however bobbers are not on my list to put in the freezer. The ones we’ve eaten were trapped. I’ve always wondered if the stress of being trapped makes them taste bad?
Currently making our way through an archery kill lion. That meat is super mild and clean tasting
Same with Mtn.Lion: kill'em cold and they're great, not after a chase. IMO, same for all game.
Great video as always! We watch your videos for family movie night!
Incredible video as always brother!
i love your videos because they make me go outside more im gonna make a rabbit snare video
Nice bob cat i remember being 8 years old and my brother killed a bobcat and i couldnt even lift it and anyways have a good day clay!
Keep up the good work. God bless you.
Thank you, I will
I’m over here thinking of raising cats and opening an Asian style restaurant.
Wow, I really like the rattle snake. Can you upload it in 4k, maybe? I need a snapshot of the screen for a new wallpaper :)
That’s awesome! Looks like your arrow caught a little branch there but it still got it done. Man that was a great video all around!!
Glad you enjoyed it
Hey bro.
I’m a bit out of touch with tv but I just watched your season of alone. I don’t know how long ago it was but I was stoked to see you come out on top.
It looks tough.
I have put my name and details in to see if I can get on the show but being from New Zealand might be pushing it.
so happy for you, I hope it’s been the game changer that’s allowed you to live your life as you want.
Cheers Craig.
I killed a bobcat in December. I’m having it mounted. I think I’m to late but I should have asked the taxidermist to call me so I can pick up the meat. You are a luck man your wife and kids have an open mind / adventurist pallet.
I'm going to prepare my domestic cat lol, good video.
Thank god. I thought I was the only one who ate house cats!!

WOW CLAY !!!!! EXCELLENT SHOT !!!! it stay in the same place !!! Look like a3D
Lying down bobcat !!!!
Just found my new favorite CZcamsr
DUDE!!!!! Bucket list accomplishment!
Finally! Been checkin everyday for this one !
What a great shot!
It was fast and I can't see where exactly did you hit it? I didn't expect it to get down so fast. Was it heart shot?
Great shot anyway and the food looks great! Thanks for sharing!
Greetings from Sweden
It was what we call a head whoopin lol most would call it unethical but it don't get anymore ethical when they drop and are dead instantly. Head or neck shot by the looks but awesome shot!
@@PenCo91oh you may be right! It looked like a reaktion after spine shot but I didn't see the spine.
Thanks for answer!
Have a great day!
I have eaten Bobcat before, it kind of has this taste to what Coyte or Fox has. Yes, the Bobcat can be found in South Dakota outside of the Black Hills having come up on seeing them hidden in the woods in my area near the Missouri River.
Them enchiladas look amazing
Only 299,999 to go!! Lol obviously I'm kidding, I'd never want every bobcat gone. The opposite really, I love that they're thriving. Super cool animal, and that shot!!! Holy shit that arrow is so fast!!! Freakin awesome video as usual Mr Clay 🤘🤘🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
Excellent shot. And great calling too. That last pip right at the end to get the good pose for the shot. Well done! This video made it look easy. It isn't. I've got no objection with your kills so long as you eat and use what you can -- which you do. People who get meat at the store sometimes forget someone had to kill that animal, process it, wrap it up , and then slap a price tag on it.
Great shot. I did not know that cat is good to eat. We don’t hunt them in the UK.
If you ever get the chance try to get rattle snake/snake, be it the northern subspecies of the Prairie Rattler in Idaho, the southern Prairie Rattler, or the invasive species in Florida like the Boa. The meat is like Alligator only not tough and very soft.
Awesome video! Thank you for sharing and I love the end result ❤
Thanks so much! 😊
Great hunt Clay. Forgive those who do not understand what they are ranting about. Just forgive them.
Aw! Tehawna cuisine! What the arrow reaches. . .es muyi bueano!
Do you go hunting with wooden arrows? If so, what kind of wooden arrows do you use? What kind of wood? What is the diameter of the arrow shaft?
You see I'm one of those people that live everything about this video. I've only scene one bobcat in my lifetime and probably won't see another. You saw one shot killed it. And you may not see another. Who knows. So I'm glad to see your family harvest that cat. From the land to the table. And those enchiladas OH MY GOD looked delicious. I want 10 of them . Yeah those echiladsas looked great. Let's see more of those videos
Thanks Michael
Bob cat headshot with a stick bow!?! Doesn’t get better than that!!! I had to put video .25x playback speed to watch at arrow turn his light off. Awesome awesome awesome
😉
That, was legit! Call from the point of release, take a bobcat with a longbow, and in broad daylight?! Unheard of!
What a shot! 😮
Man those are some big enchiladas.
I heard the old “mountain men” say lion is the tastest wild game.😀
Great shot buddy! I've had bobcat before and have no complaints! Good luck with everything my friend!
Many thanks
Great hunt and a solid shot. Dinner looked delicious.
Nate
Great Job Clay, drove through Idaho this past week on the way down to our new home in Texas, went by Juliette also and thought of you as I drove thru bro! Thanks for all the fantastic inspirational content man!
Right on!
New subscriber, bro
Well done 👏🏻
Awesome video, really enjoy the field to table videos.
Bobcat is very tasty deep fried or grilled on a flattop cooker
Had our first bobcat a few years ago and man there good. BBQ Beaver was something we always had at family reunions as well. Mmmgood stuff.
Right on
I am seeing against this video. Its amaaazinggg !!!!
I'll admit I didn't know you could safely eat bobcat, I'd rather eat it than the olives. 😀
That was a fantastic shot on that bobcat it looked tasty congratulations
Hi Clay, I put off watching this video for a while now because while i positively adore your content, I live with a house cat and the idea of seeing a cat being killed on screen didn't make me very comfortable. I still watched and can't say I felt great but it was a clean kill and I perfectly understand the ethics of hunting and this is no criticism from my end. I'd rather see you hunt such a beautiful animal in the wild where it is supposed to be rather than thinking about pet cats being abandoned, abused and killed by psychos in polluted cities. Thanks for your content as always
I’m not a hunter anymore but in the territories I hunted I never killed mountain lion, bobcat, or lynx. I just did not hunt them because I knew that they kept the rodent population down. Some hunters I knew wouldn’t kill them because they said cougars would kill small pigs which are a big pest problem nationally, but I couldn’t verify that claim. I knew farmers and ranchers would kill them to protect their livestock but I never knew one that ate big cats. I did hunt bear a few times and they were good eating.
Bad ass! Nice work Clay, glad your able to get out and hunt more after alone, I live in Coeur D Alene and shoot a recurve, I've been following your channel from the early days.
Well done! Thanks for sharing.
The bobcat population in Iowa now is very high.
Great Smackdown 🏹👊🏻
Looking forward to @lizhayes video of this
