- Pallas’s cat (Otocolobus manul) or manul is small cat living in large areas in Asia. The amount of wild Pallas’s cats is decreasing, and it is concidered near threatened. Korkeasaari Zoo has supported the concervation of the species since 2014.

Unlikely, given their reclusive nature. One of the big reasons there are so few isn't actually human intervention. They live solitary lives and keep large distances from one another, their mating seasons can pass several times without a single litter being conceived.
This might end up being a case of a species that will die out naturally.

@@astuteanansi4935 Its kind of a misleading designation. Collectively, they're populated throughout the Middle East, into West Asia. But in each of the countries that make up their habitat, their dwindling local numbers has them listed as critically endangered.
They always look super grumpy, which of course makes them even cuter.

its good that we dont see it often, this specie could be endangerad the more humans try to get contact with it. Better be in nature, safe and watched by nature-watch trusted agencies.

I gotta admit, since learning that Pallas cats existed, I had automatically thought them to be a Finnish breed. They just have that inbuilt social distancing vibe to them.
+ There's a "Tunturi" (Google translate: mountain in Lapland) called "Pallas tunturi".

@@amadeus.k331 at every zoo in the world this is done to every animal. It's not just Finnish people that do that. That is how you determine the gender of most animals. Given breeders and vets of domesticated animals do that and farmers do that to their animals.

"The distribution of the species is very weak" - Yes, because in the wild they don't like each other that much. And in most cases it can take up to 5 kilometers for two to be distant enough so they don't bother each other.
With that distance and attitude it makes it kinda hard to have more of them around if your space with their optimal living conditions isn't endless. So considering 500 sightings and lets say 3 kilometers give or take you end up with a place about 1500 km2 which is almost the size of Luxembourg in Europe for example. But without any disturbing elements like people or enemies of their own. Considering that people live almost anywhere and that one place hasn't got the best living conditions that space needs to be way bigger and you end up with 4 or 5 times the size of Luxembourg. Like Belgium or Netherlands (again give or take).
The weirdest thing though (but not surprising) is that when people help them to not decrease their overall population they don't see it the same way we do :) no matter what you do you'll always be that disturbing element pissing them off.
In the wild they need to get together to breed, so have to be close enough to mate. I once read in a nature magazine that most wild cats, with the obvious exception of lions, tended to be distanced from others of their species only when the pickings were sparse. When prey was plentiful, they are more sociable with each other.
Feral cats, which are the domestic cat forced to live by their wits, form colonies. These are matriarchal, based on related females and their offspring. They thrive in this way far better than lone ferals. (I used to live in an area with lots of feral cats.) Males with non-aggressive natures are allowed to remain after kittenhood. Aggressive males are evicted and become lone cats.
It's a well-worn fallacy that cats are by nature solitary. This depends on circumstances. Competition for food is the main factor.

This make their situation all the more interesting. They seem to be a species who are naturally adapted to NOT survive, because their tendency of intra-species hostility always keeps them one step closer to extinction. Yet they have survived in the wilderness so far, where chance encounters are rare. Who knows? there maybe many more species of animals out there who have live in the isolated state because they have an intense dislike towards each other.

These are wild animals, that do not enjoy being handled by humans. We don't touch the animals unnecessarily because of that. In this video, the young manuls are checked for the first time by our vet to see their genders. This is done as quickly as possible, so that the minimum amount of stress is caused to the animals.
That is really good to hear, that you handle them rarely and quickly then straight back to their family life. Gloves protect you 😂but also keep the human smell off them as much as possible.
