    After saying I would never take this on I did in fact do it myself a few days ago. It really wasn't all that bad. My local repair shop wanted something like $1,200 to do this, so that was certainly motivation for me. One thing I will add here is when you go to fill the system make sure you fill through the upper radiator hose, and not just through the radiator or you will more than likely get trapped air in the system and the vehicle will overheat. And of course make sure the cap is off while filling through the upper radiator hose. After running the engine and letting it cool I still had to top off with about 16 oz. It's surprising how much air gets trapped in the system. Great video!

      Filling through the upper hose is the critical thing he left out. Glad to see your comment at the top of the list.

    You are a legend before you were even born The best tool is just pliers to get the clamps off but these type of vans there is no easy way to get to the components everything is so crowded together Good photography

So far it's not dripping alot, only i little at a time. I suspect that i'm going to have to replace my pump in short order because it only can be from the pump base on your video.

    Well.... Ive been in and out of my 01 countless times. I have been looking for some kind of way to get the upper shroud off without the majorr brawl I have with it every time. The AC line goes right over the top. Yo have to be brutal to the line to get the clearance. It doesnt matter if you rotate it, take the fan off, try to be gentle. I was hoping to find a better way. I noticed that ALL the videos skip over that part. I bet its because people dont want to film the fight they must have with it. Discharging the system just seems like a lot for radiator/water pump/ alt/ etc.. repairs

      After years of fiddling, i throw a piece of cardboard in front of radiator, and gently pull/twist/cuss/complain and slide it free. Never tried removing filler tube. Patience is the key. May have to try filler hose removal just in case it's faster.

    Thinking I might torch it. I have it all removed from the van now. 🙈🤔

    • @Brandi.Nicole
      @Brandi.Nicole Před 7 lety +2

      jimthecarguy Fixed! So what I did was drill small holes on the bolt near the pump.
      Sawed off the bolt (easy) and just bought a new clutch. Fan was fine. Clutch was about $50 and I just used the fan I had. I can't believe how hard it was to remove. Even the tool wouldn't get it off. Thanks for following up! It means a lot!!

      I had the same issue for the last 2 years. I couldn't fingered out. What was the deal. I had to keep an eye on re filling it every month. Now is starting to get cold. And the pulley that is attached to the water pump it self broke came loose. My van over heated. Big time. I drove it about 20 miles. I will change the water pump tomorrow. Hopefully I didn't blow the head gasket. Did you ever figured out what was the problem??
