The distinction with marmalade is because you cannot zest certain fruits. If you can zest it, you can make it into a marmalade.

Preserves is the umbrella term that encompasses all of them now colloquially in the south it usually refers to jelly or jam or marmalade, but it is literally all of them because you were just preserving the fruit via the process of turning them into those individuals specific items. Love y’all.

Portugal mentioned!!! Yeah, as you said "marmelada" is a specific jam from "marmelos" here, my family makes a lot of that. Marmelada (when it's hard like a block) with cheese is amazing, when i was a kid I always took a sandwich filled with marmalada and cheese for a snack at school.

Combine everything except the cool whip in a bowl and mix, fold the cool whip in after fully mixed. That's my mom's ambrosia salad, she passed 3 years ago this april. Enjoy!

Prussia was a unification of northwest Germany, Austria and Hungary due to bloodlines. It included parts of modern Poland and southern Denmark, and the eastern parts of France. Everyone royal was intermarried at that point but France was getting away from it (bourgeoise and proletariats lead to their revolution, and eventual rise of nationalist supporters to kick off WW2) and English royalty was a figurehead more or less. The Treaty of Versailles divided Prussia into many smaller states including Germany.

Ambrosia should be made with sour cream, not whipped cream. Mix sour cream with mini marshmallows and let that sit over night. Ok the difference between jams, jellies, and butters is that butter is a fully blended jam without skin. A peach butter is a smooth peach jam. A plum butter is a smooth plum jam. Once stone fruits come in season in spring and summer, i am preserving weekly just so they last even SLIGHTLY longer. Equal weights fruit and sugar, cut in any configuration depending on desired consistency, macerate in sugar overnight, dump into pot, cook syrup to gel, done. Doesn't fit the American standards because those are 65%+ sugar, but 50% certainly fits the British standards, and is too high in sugar for the French standards.

To me jelly seems more processed where jam seems like it's less additives.

I love raspberry jelly, because the seeds are strained out. I also love peach preserves. Apricot is also delicious. I prefer honey in my peanut butter sandwich to jam. It's too sour

DE REI COQUINARIA MENTION somewhere Max Miller got a shiver cjcjkd would love to see him on this podcast 🙏
EDIT: to the point about cheese; a lot of European words for cheese come from the Latin ‘casus formatus’ lit. ‘Formed cheese’ whence we get words like ‘formaggio/fromage’; which is probably why ‘cheese’ can refer to anything that is shaped!
Et al. Is an abbreviation of et alii!
