NO contemporaneous historian talked of Jesus. They talked of the MOVEMENT.. just like there were hundreds of cults around deities and heroes. And just because you have a cult/movement with a text doesn't mean the figurehead was/is real. Think Apollo, Hercules, Perseus, Minerva, Mithras... Mickey Mouse, Harry Potter, Deadpool, etc. This is a major issue with xianity (evangelical more than most).

    • @creativewriter3887
      @creativewriter3887 Před 10 měsíci

      Um... which the church (both variants) did! The first treaties the Nazis made was with the Catholic and Lutheran Churches. Hell, HOW the Holocaust happened and the Nazis came to power is predicated upon 2000 years of xian Anti-Semitism... as I've always said "The Roads to Auschwitz and Dachau were paved with stones from Golgatha and the Damascus Road".. meaning, if it weren't for the hatred in the NT wherein it demonized the Jews (then others), then the polemic of the church fathers, then the bulls and edicts of the popes (and rulers) and the ongoing propaganda and policies over the centuries, the pogroms, incursions, the exploitation, exiles, enslavements, wars, crusades, incursions, butchery and ultimately the extermination of people would most likely never have happened. Even Luther penned what would essentially be a virtual CHECKLIST for the Nazis to implement in his "The Jews and their Lies" (written because the Jews would NOT convert en masse to Luther's Catholicism 2.0 and continually resisted his conversionary edicts). In that work, he "recommended" synagogues be destroyed, holy books burned, Rabbis and Jewish men slaughtered and the remaining Jewish women and children forced into "concentrated labor" (his words) for xians.. This was centuries before the Nazis.. meaning the most heinous of Hate Movements (including the Nazis and now the White Nationalists) don't happen in a vacuum. When you have a book and an institution demonizing a people (and not just Jews, but ANY and ALL "undesirables"), you can then denigrate them, disparage them, segregate them, then DEHUMANIZE them. Once they are seen as not even human and not worthy of even human decency, empathy, equality or basic human dignity/rights, you then can enslave them, exploit them of all their resources, valuables, and any and all abilities and then when the last ounce of "worth" has been savagely extracted from them, then exterminate them en masse; stating that it's for the "greater societal good" and not only that but in their eyes a MORAL and PATRIOTIC OBLIGATION/DUTY... stating they weren't murdering people.. they were in their words "eradicating a threat".

    “I believe the world to be more complex”… this is an insane statement, and they seemed to have just glossed over that. If I ask two people how a smartphone works, and one person starts talking about the people and how they used teamwork and education to develop new software and hardware, and the other starts talking about the actual hardware and software and how it works, then only the second person has answered the question. Keep in mind that this analogy generously assumes god exists, and yet this theists position still fails to “be more complex”, or be useful at all in answering the question.
