1:4:06 "You can smart yourself into a box..." powerful thing to keep in mind!
I feel that's that problem with the education system. It focuses too much on memorization and regurgitating concepts, but not how to think creatively.

It often seems like the education system strives to put all students in identical little boxes, stomp them down into the boxes, then put the lids on the boxes and nail them shut for delivery, so that the megacorporate oligarchy can be assured that it is getting obedient little robot-people who'll do as they're told and not question the rampant corruption of the powers-that-be

To presume we have no more to know at any level is arrogant. It has been proven (Godell, Turing, Cantor) uncountably infinite, unsolvable problems exist. Even if only countably infinite problems exist, we will never stop learning new things at every level. Between every integer (we can know) there are infinite enumerations we can not know. If we mapped these quantities in infinite ways, to every possible set of occurrences, learning never ends. Great chat BTW.

Strictly speaking, as a chemist, a single molecule of ANYTHING would have to be gaseous. Ultimately, it's the proximity of an atom/ molecule to its neighbours that determines whether the substance will form a solid, liquid or a gas. The farther the spacing, the greater its tendency to form a gas; the nearer the spacing, the greater its tendency to form a solid. Since a single atom/ molecule doesn't have any neighbours with which to be in proximity, that single atom/ molecule will always be in a gaseous state.
SO, if someone asks if a single molecule of water is "Wet," then the answer will always be "No," since "wetness" is a property of liquids, not of gases.

Two of my favorite voices of reason. Thank you so much.
My only rub was the inference at 1:21 that you need formal training in a particular field to be able to contribute thoughts to it. I think even arm chair analysis from those who have made other endeavors their life's work should not lessen their potential contributions to the discourse - particularly on a topic about which they have honest and inquisitive thoughts to share in hope's of furthering the discourse.
I know it adds to the unenviable burden of sorting the good stuff from the chaff, but that seems to be the inescapable bedrock of scientific inquiry.

It is two different things. Dark matter add mass to galaxies that will hold them together even though they are rotating. Dark energy tend to pull galaxies away from each other and make they universe expand faster over time, instead of slowing down. So dark gravity comes in two kinds.

For example, in the Cosmos series it seems some of the scientists profiled were not classically trained and or at least we're shunned by the established science community yet in several instances they were found to be correct. When you're at the top of your game you will receive too many queries from the public to research but that doesn't mean they're all dead wrong because they didn't train at an ivy league school...And ultimately scientists should focus on expanding the science rather than comparing and contrasting their methods to those of🤯religious groups and politicians

yeah, the issue is that our perception of why questions is often to find some agency in a concept or object, description is just a rich why, the problem is that when depersonalized many people fail to see the agency, when saying for example god created cheese or something they can have an implicit relationship with the causes of cheese being cheese, when its just a very crude semantic explanation of the nuance of what makes cheese cheese, it has nothing to do with cheese, there are 2 separate kinds of why questions, and one of them is a reflection of a need to ascribe, and the other is from a need to know causes.

Would the virtual particles be separated, causing them to become real particles? Would these processes generate a new cosmos? Would the newly-generated antimatter particles travel backward in time, generating a mirror universe opposite the universe of matter which would be traveling forward in time? Would this Big Rip process happen cyclically over and over again for eternity?
