    I wanted to make something to honor the best some of the very best to ever play the game. From Ham to Watt, the Steelers have given the world a show unlike anything else in the NFL. Pure & consistent excellence at the linebacker position for nearly 50 years.
    I know there were a few guys that could have been included, but finding acceptable content from before 2010 can be challenging, especially for non-superstar players.

    The Pittsburgh Steelers hardly suffer in the linebacker department. With iconic player after iconic player, they’ve put together some of the most entertaining cores in NFL history. There’s a few guys I wanted to put in this but simply could not find quality footage.
    As always, thank you for watching & supporting the channel by being here. I love Yinz to death! 🖤💛

    (also on another note ... for another position)... Steelers are one of the rare teams to have an "unbroken chain" connecting all of their running backs.
    I traced it far back as before Frenchy Fuqua... but I usually just say... "back to Franco".
    Meaning that their runningbacks now, played witth someone who was on the team with someone who ...etc..etc... was on the same team as Franco.
    Some teams have broken the chains to their past and cut entire backfields and have no connection to the positions ancestors.
    Steelers have not "totally" shed their running backs, receivers, or linebackers at least dating back to the early 1970's when they started winning.
    So the chains connecting those positions are pretty strong and the reason for this being important is that it does preserve the traditions and knowledge that is passed down from one group to another.
    There was a time when the Steelers actually got close to losing the chain link at Running back ... this was in the late 1980's when they had drafted Tim Worley and Hoge... but I believe Pollard was still on the team at the time.. and I can't remember if Earnest Jackson was before or after that.
    I was at one time gonna write a book about all this and call it the "Unbroken Chain".
    But alas, I lost a lot of the material I had researched, and a whole bunch of other crap divided me from it.
    btw.. just as a note and a prime example.. one team that I had looked at briefly apparently had broken their chain.
    The Redskins currently have no direct connection to the running backs in their past. Such as John Riggins.
    Is it a wonder then, why the team struggles to maintain a running attack like they used to anymore?
    As if they forgot how to do it.
    Connecting things like this is like connecting lineage or forming a tree that has a root.
    If it's gone... it is a "New Tree"
    If it's still there... then the roots or foundations continues the strength on and on....
    The Linebackers, are definitely still chained together :D

    • @ItzYinzburgh
      @ItzYinzburgh  Před 3 lety +1

      Wow that’s super interesting! Any idea how far the WR tree goes??

    • @d0nKsTaH
      @d0nKsTaH Před 3 lety

      @@ItzYinzburgh Actually I think the receiver tree is quite well.
      I know Ward was connected to Stallworth pretty easily as he was on the team with some others who were either with Lipps, Johnson, Graham, or Thigpen... and that put it with John... thus Swann... etc all the way back to the early 1970's...
      Pretty much all of the receivers right now are at least connected to Ward through Brown and some others.

    Ham and Lambert laid the ground work for what is today's Pittsburgh linebacker corps. Lambert, who was my favorite, scared the crap out of me when I was a kid but as an adult I think the scariest, most feared was James Harrison. The best duo would have to be Lloyd and Greene. I think Ham was there best linebacker. He didn’t get the recognition that Lambert did. He quietly played his position and left all the fanfare for other players. I should know, I grew up in Pittsburgh during the 1970’s and was an eyewitness to there dominating years.

    i know he wasn't the most popular or long lasting steeler and left in terrible fashion and was kind of the "anti-steeler" but mike merriweather put together a 5 year run that was one of the best, all pro's in 84, 85 and 86 and was responsible for 21 turnovers and 2 touchdowns and missed only 4 games during that period....he was a self described "finesse type" player which doesn't exactly fit the steelers mold and also did the unthinkable at least for a steeler in holding out(for an entire season) but the steelers were able to get a first round pick for him and if they had drafted steve wisniewski instead of tom ricketts, his contribution to the steelers would even be more credible...i think he seriously deserves a spot in the steeler hall of fame and the only thing holding him back is the fact that the steelers have produced so many great linebackers and the way in which his exit from pittsburgh took place...just one person's opinion but when i was 10 to 14 or so, i loved to watch him play and prior to greg lloyd(2 extremely different players and greg lloyd is and always will be my favorite) was one of my favorite players

    Only missing the Spillane hit on Derrick Henry to make this complete. I know he was 2nd string, but he proved himself last year.

    How you going to put the Vinny hit at the end instead of Bobby's goalline stop on King Henry? That was legendary

    Since about the 74 draft. I don't think that there has been a season where the Steelers didn't have at least 2 menacing all pro D-line guys.

    after his beginning of the week comments(this ain't chess it's football) about the colts and peyton manning and then being silenced by cowher, that in the history of football, you can make the argument(especially if bettis hadn't fumbled) that porter's 2nd and 4th down sacks were the biggest play what you say moments in the history of football....don't forget your history
