That’s not how it happened. Hadfield had to clear it because he planned on selling the recording. Bowie didn’t own the rights to the song, so he had no idea about it being temporarily taken down until the rights cleared.
For being in space so much, Chris Hadfield is the most down to earth guy I've ever seen. Not only is he full of fascinating information, but he genuinely seems happy to share it with anyone who will listen. Love this man!

Actually, Major Tom didn't die at the end. If you listen to David Bowie's Ashes to Ashes (1980), Ground Control receives a message from him, "I'm happy; hope you're happy too..."

Jacky Ngauff The "astronaut" does die. The song is about a drug addict basically losing himself in his addiction. The "I'm happy, hope you're happy too" is this addict saying "I chose this and I want my wife to choose what makes her happy" I think.
Jennysweret The song is about an astronaut getting high in space, but Bowie specifically states that Major Tom survived.

If you truly believe that Earth is flat, then I have three genuine questions: 1. Are the moon, or the sun, or Mars or Venus or Saturn round or flat? (And if Saturn is flat, how do you explain the rings?)
2. How does GPS, or your internet, work without satellites orbiting Earth?
3. How do the global weather systems work? The very same global weather patterns that create lightening which allowed for electricity to be better understood and eventually lead to the creation of batteries and power stations that supply electricity to your home so you can write comments on CZcams videos.
It makes me cringe that there are actually people who believe the earth is flat.
