generally speaking overpowered for wing surfing is ok, because you can "sheet" out/ depower easily. Kite surfing is different story - #1 you are attatched and can easily get in trouble. Take my word for it, I learned underpowered and it is a terrible way to learn, takes 10 times as long. Way better to be overpowered, not incredibly overpowered, but a little more than slightly. Here would be a good definition for overpowered for a newbie (considering you to be an in shape surfer/ skater/ snowboarder-looking at your name "shaka ripper")- if you can waterstart with no board at all you are too overpowered ;) . Take your wing on the sand on a beach, or grass backyard, and have enough wind to be able to lean back against it with your body weight and have the wind keep you from falling down. Think slalom windsurfing with decent power (think of someone who is talented when you are visualizing this
