It was the greatest fight because it taught us the violence isn't even necessary to become a ufc champion, in fact you don't even have to do any damage, or really anything at all. If all these fighters just stopped fighting, SOMEONE still has to win...
I want to emphasize the fact that tai vs gane was absolutely all the scenarios we expected in one fight. If you think about it, it was a gem.

Yeah that fight was awesome. Sometimes it's the tension and subtle maneuvering with the biggest, baddest blokes. And when those two went, they went. Jiri-Glover was better but that's it imo.
Yea it was always either gane picks tai apart every round or tai lands a bomb on Cyril cause it’s heavyweight and we really saw both
Landwehr-Onama was playing to the crowd like a moment out of Gladiator. This was an electrifying fight that brought the crowd to orgasm
Everyone forgets that in Jiri vs Glover, Glover had his balls on Jiri's face and just sat there for a bit.
That made the fight even better, only a true S tier fight of the year candidate can be so fun but also make you laugh for a moment in between.

Jiri vs Glover was the undisputed FOTY in 2022... I cannot think of a single thing that lacked in that fight.

@@krisf4969 the pace of the fight was very high and they were all beat up, only in last rounds you can say that it lacked technical skills, the first 3 rounds were technical.

Gaethje vs olives was only 1 round, Moreno fight had many dull moments so it wasn’t a great fight to watch back, Chandler vs poirier was boring outside of round 1 and the finish. Yan vs O’Malley is better than all of these. I’d give it B tier imo.
Worth mentioning the odds for Jiri to sub Glover were +900 or something ridiculous. Only submission loss of Glover’s career.

“Fk You” punch was arguable the high point of his career in the eyes of the fans.

27:13 I remember Chimaev vs Burns round 3 being Chimaev just kinda bullying Burns for the first 3 minutes and walking him down, and then the last two is when they started going back and forth with the shots.
Thats basically what happened. And Round 3 is basically what won Chimaev the fight

I really feel like Chito has underrated defense. He so rarely gets hurt or noticeably damaged. Font put volume on him but never really had him in trouble.

You missed Seung Woo Choi vs Mike Trizano, possibly the greatest round 1 ever in the ufc.
I'm sort of surprised that Izzy v Pereira didn't make it onto the list.
Certainly wasn't S or A tier, and maybe not even B; but I feel like it deserved C or D.
Solid B tier at least ....was on the edge of my chair the whole fight
@@fatjeezussouthtexasoutdoor5244 I can say I was too, but if I step back and realize that a big part of that was anticipation because I've been a fan of both of them for some time (Izzy grew up in my hometown and I've followed Pereira since their first fight); I'm not sure it ranks particularly highly among these fights.
Consider that he's got some genuinely fucking crazy fights in B tier, and I'd honestly put it in low B to high C.
But to see it not even make D tier honestly makes me wonder about his bias against Izzy; which whilst it may be somewhat understandable considering his cockiness and rather consistent stalling of action in previous fights; I don't think that should reflect on what really was a very good fight.

I'm not a fan of rating fights and marking out for fights like the wrestling fans do with wrestling matches, but I can say that the Teixeira title fights is definitely S Tier all time classic. It had it all and the finish was spectacular. Jiri is a special talent.

Tsarukyan vs Gamrot was like Gillespie vs Ferreira absolute insanity for a grappling enthusiast like myself.
Vera v Font def went under appreciated after some time passed and we all soaked in that we just watched a close-ish fight where one guy looked untouched and the other guy made it look like it must’ve been incredibly one-sided. Fantastic fight. The activity and grit from Rob Font almost guarantees entertainment, nothing against chito. Love him too
Chikadze v Kattar as the year opening main event was UNFORGETTABLE. That was the night Giga Chikadze showed us he was coming to back up what he said whether it went his way or not, and Calvin Kattar showed us he had the potential to be just as good as the likes of Max and Volk. Kattar is an odd fighter. The nights he’s on, there’s no stopping him. The nights he’s off, you’d think it was a twin brother fighting in there bc there’s no way that’s the Calvin we all know. Much love to him all the same

I don't think that Holland vs Thompson should've been on this list simply because Holland wasn't giving it his all, he gave Thompson that fight by not using all his mma skills....as much as I liked it it can't be one of the best because all I could think about was that Thompson was being allowed to win.....

Great list agree with most! Would put Khamzat and Burns at A tier tho. It was so much back and forth in this fight and had me at the edge of my seat the whole fight. Khamzat started strong and looked like it was over for Burns. Burns came back in round two and dropped Khamzat all over the place. Round 3 was Khamzat putting on the pressure and out striking burns the first minutes until Burns went crazy again and started dropping bombs on Khamzat and fight ended with both trading like mad mans. Did it get better cuz of the hype around Khamzat yes but still insane fight!

Great tier list, I would personally put Gane vs Tui in A or B tier it is one of the best heavyweight fights ever and although it was one sided Ganes output was wild to watch especially knowing that Tui could counter back at any moment.

Crazy that grappling is half of mma yet people are obsessed with striking only fights
It’s because a lot of the fights with mostly grappling end up being control fests. Scrambling is the most entertaining part of grappling and a lot of fighters are just not that great or urgent at scrambling, that’s why gamrot vs tsarukyan and gamrot vs Dariush are so good compared to every other grappling heavy fight. It’s because they had alot of high energy scrambles and technical takedowns.
Crazy how wrestling fanboys only appreciate wrestlers whether they are literally only controlling oponent for 5 minutes or just getting takedowns and still doing nothing.
