Protip: Always watch SNES drunk in the morning. That way you get more value out of the "I hope you have a great rest of your day."
5/5 advice.
I rarely like comments, but you can take your filthy like from me!
But then I'd have to get drunk in the morning 😂
Unless you're a night owl.
I prefer to watch juuuust after midnight so it's all-inclusive, even of my sleeping.
Allow me to explain the whole “fruit and sports motif:"
It was the ‘90s.
Close. It was Japan in the 90s.
@@WhatIsMatter101 Why you blame the decade? The manual explicitly say that Morticia (the witch) curse his picnic backpack...Classical XD
I'll explain it better. It's very likely Japanese wordplay jokes that don't translate natively to English very well.
Touch the fruits
I rented this game as a kid one weekend, played it all the way through to the end, forgot the title, and wondered for years if I'd ever get to replay that game with the monkey who could launch different kinds of sports balls at enemies. Now here we are, so, lucky me, I guess.
I did, too. Glad I'm not alone.
Yeah! I remember renting this game too and I LOVED IT but could never find it again! Thanks again SNES Drunk!
@@lonewolffangit was a fun game 🙂
i rented this at Kroger in 94 and while itwas fun, it got so difficult for 8 yr old me i had to game genie the last few worlds. That final boss kicked my ass and went on forever, thank you Game Genie!
Did you end up spanking the monkey?
Statistically speaking there's at least one parent that heard the words "i want to play spanky the monkey"
Mooooooom you don't understand, it's just about balls!
@@josketobben😂🤣
I don't think the graphics are THAT bad. It has a cool 80s vibe with some of the backgrounds.
"i listened to this music and liked it and now I'm making that your problem" -SNES Drunk
And we appreciate it.
Discovered on Switch with my son a few months ago and was shocked by how much fun we had.
"Despite a name that would send Beavis and Butthead into convulsions..."
The mental image of that happening is amazing.
I'm glad I scrolled down to see this, I wanted to post a similar sentiment
It just sounded poetic to me 💯
Hehehnn yeah yeah
It really is.
All I need is to watch a new Snesdrunk video to have a great rest of my day
I've been re-watching old SNES Drunk videos and when I refresh my feed there's a new video.... NICE!
This is a brilliant game. I played as a kid in one of these 8 in 1 cartridges that were common in Brazil. When I started to play it I thought it would suck, but after a few minutes I was totally hooked. It's nice to see someone giving this gem the praise it deserves.
And the music slaps
I also had a 8-in-1 with this game. It had Spanky's Quest, Gradius III, Super Buster Bros, Super Goal! 2, Tom & Jerry, Top Gear, Puzzle Bobble and SMW.

This was the, "it was the only game then video rental place had left," game that everyone played.
Giant fruit gave me nightmares
For those that are curious, the Japanese name for this game is called
"Monkey Reflections: The Adventures of Mr. Jiro".
How this became Spanky's Quest is beyond me.
Thank you for your service, even if I wonder how many will even see it at this point. It's at least nice to know the real context here.
An executive producer of localization probably just thinking that they're funny.
"Why is food trying to kill me?" ~Monkeys and the Chef from Burger Time
It was even worse in Super Burger Time, with the aspargus missiles and whatnot
In Burger Time (and associated games) it makes sense- you're trying to murder and eat it.
“Spanky” (kudos to Natsume USA’s marketing department) the monkey slapping his enemies with balls. Luckily they didn’t implement a tea bagging taunt.
My mother brought it home one day when I was a kid. I played it times to times but never tought much of it. When I got back to it as an adult, the funky music, the colorful graphics and the good gameplay quite grew on me. Today, it has become one of my favourites SNES games.
I used to rent this one all the time as a kid. It's really fun, but I thought it was really real tough near the end at the time.
My brother owned the Gameboy version of this game, although for some reason it was a non-standard cartridge which made me think it was actually an unlicensed game, and I thought it was pretty fun, albeit rather similar to Bubble Bobble (stage-based platformer where you have to use a rather unconventional method of attacking enemies with bubbles). I think I beat the entire thing at least once.
never heard of this game until I played it on SNES/Switch online. It's fun like Drunk says. Haven't gotten too far into it though.
The Japanese cover art for it looks so goofy and cute, I love it
Loved your "Mercyful death of a salesman" story!
Thanks for taking the time to read
@@SNESdrunk I enjoyed every text
That was a /really/ nice "SNES Drunk"!
Yus, happy and wholesome.
Beavis and Butthead are still chuckling over this one 30 years later.
the sssSSSss at the start gave me the energy for the rest of the day. OMG, you're reviewing a good game? holy hell, im SO gonna play this when i get home. Btw, your recommendations are top tier, man. Treasure of Rudra, Gourmet Sentai, all games i played thanks to you

We need a SNES Drunk Soundboard!🔊
My mom was addicted to this game. I enjoyed watching her playing it.
I'm not usually a huge fan of puzzle platformers but this is one of my favorite games. It is stupid addicting.
I've been watching your videos every morning since the start of covid... and I wanna thank you for such a great work. Its a really pleasure to start my days with snes drunk!
also, there's a snowboard game that uses the super fx chip in a cool way, it bends the ground and hides parts of the background to make slopes in the road, so it's not a flat terrain like in mario kart. I dont know the name, but it's one of those games that "push the limits of the snes"
I urge anyone to check out this game’s Boss theme, one of the greatest bangers in the entire SFC/SNES catalogue.🎶
I'll check it out. Thanks for the suggestion m8.
Thank you for covering all these games I remember from ads and Nintendo magazines, and wondering if I should rent it, and totally forgot about years later until your channel!
"Hey Richard, who's your favorite Little Rascal?"
A game I've had since I was 5. Never could beat it back then. Even today, I kinda like it and would appreciate a remaster or something.
I would consider Spanky's Quest a very underrated "hidden gem" if you will. I rented it as a kid, and love it to this day.
With the recent Natsume kick you were on, I was hoping you would get to this game.
I have some fond memories of it, and I don't know anyone who's played it, so I'm very happy to see it get some love here.
My favorite channel on CZcams 😊 always happy to see a new upload!
3:25 This game seemed kind of whatever until you brought up the music. Now i wanna play it lol
Your videos feel like a warm sunny summer break morning in the early 90s! 🫶
Spanky’s Quest’s music is so FUCKING GOOD!
Mortal kombat II was rented out, so I rented this. I was in 7th grade, and it was in 1993, so you can imagine the eruption of Beavis and Butthead-esque laughter once i told them i spent all weekend playing a game about Spankey the monkey.
"Richard.... who's your favorite Little Rascal? .... Is it Alfalfa...."
A wise man once said this game came out before innuendo was invented. Cool to see a full review come for it. The ball bouncing looks like a neat and challenging mechanic. I am sure it is a lil annoying to get the bouncing interrupted by enemies. Thank you for the video and managing to not get knocked out by all the low hanging fruit.
😏
At this point, if Natsume made it then you know you're in for a good experience
Truth is, I had seen the cover on NSO, but I never dared to open it... the monkey on the cover was intimidating xD. I think I'll muster up the courage to play it this weekend. Thanks, as always, for giving these kinds of games a moment of fame!!!
Thank YOU for making this and we hope YOU enjoy the rest of your day! 😊
'Spanky's Quest' is so underrated!
I’m glad this channel is still pumping out content 👍🏻
Hey man, just curious- on a video like this, where the entire area of the video is a 4:3 section of your video, is there any way you can set your project to 4:3 so you don't have just useless black bars on the side? I saw the video was encoded as 1280 x 720 (720p) and I know alot of your content is covering old video games, and when there isn't anything in the video that will even go beyond the 4:3 area, it might be nice to just remove those areas completely. For instance, I was trying to watch your video on my 4:3 CRT and it wants to present it as a 16:9 video with bars on the side AND top, which just crops it to be much smaller than it could be. It's not a big deal just a though. Love the SNES drunk theme at the beginning, BTW. Haters gonna hate- I'm glad you just keep on rolling.
When we were kids on holiday in America, me and my brother both got to pick one SNES game to take home. My brother picked Super Play Action Football and was trying to make me pick Fatal Fury. I picked this and stand by my decision.
Always skipped this on name alone, but these backrounds are amazing! Especially the neon beach scene!
Definitely trying this out
never heard of this one back in the day. Thanks for doing this review - so far it's a blast
A lot of these very early SNES games has a special charm. Addams Family being a standout.
I remember seeing ads for this in gaming mags back in the day and thinking the title was hilarious. After your video, I’m actually intrigued to try it.
I read an article yesterday that said if you have a song stuck in your head, try to think of the ending and it should stop. Something to do with our minds not liking unfinished things. But video game music tends to loop in on itself, so I wonder if that is why video game music so easily gets stuck in our heads, there is no ending!
Like Spindizzy Adventure (if I'm even remembering that title correctly), this is a game that I only became aware of thanks to ads in Archie comic books. Thanks, Archie!
Who's your favorite little rascal?
Sinner…
This wouldn't normally be a game that I'd play, but after watching your gameplay and hearing you explain the concept it seems like a really fun game to give a try for at least an hour. This reminds me a little bit of Buster Bros for some reason, as if I'd see it in a Truck Stop arcade back in the 90s.
Love your uploads! I played this in a Funko Land.
I liked that "SNESDrunk" intro
I just started playing this. Thank you for the review
I love this game though I mostly play the GameBoy version. The Japanese title is quite strange though, Hansei Zaru - Jiro-kun no Daibouken or in English "The introspective monkey : Jiro's Adventure." The Japanese title makes it sound like it's about a tax accountant "Jiro" having a middle age crisis starring in a point n click adventure a la Monkey Island...
Beavis: He said "spank." Uh-huh-huh
Beavis: Hmm.. Yeah, yeah! Spank. BOOINGG!
_"I'm gonna get this game's music stuck in your head ANY WAY I CAN."_

Reminds me of that one flash game where you also bounced balls and shot them.
I think I got this one from a Blockbuster sale from all things back in the day. Loved it. Wild as hell.
I’m ollllllllllld SNES Drunk.
Hey SNESDrunk...I hope you have a great rest of your day too.
This game to this day is a great relaxing game to play on a day off.
Bought this game used at a fleamarket in the 90s. Its a great game.
I have CZcams set to notify me every time you breath and this is the 3rd video in this year they didn't notify me of.
More Spanky games please!
I wonder if Grandma Spankenheimer would like this one
ooo, nice harmony with the intro today!
4:12 Holy slowdown, Batman! 😂
Great soundtrack. I hear it often used in SMW romhacks.
I remember renting this from Blockbuster at like 6 years old, thinking it was a platformer like Mario. Having no idea what a puzzle platformer was, I was very confused to say the least and didn't get very far. Both this game and the Rocko's Modern Life snes game were two very regretful rentals. I'm glad though some people enjoy it, maybe I'll get it for the Switch.
Yes. It is!!!! The music is absolutely amazing! ❤❤❤❤
Yes, guys: Snes Drunk is definitelly addictive. The voice, the length, the jokes...
Sssssssssssnes- Drunk!
I used to love this game when I was a kid!
I just purchased this game yesterday. Insane timing!
I love this game-
I love the music & vibes of this one
yr take on the Leisure Suit Larry series would be must-watch viewing
When I was a kid there were always orange slices during half time no matter the sport.
Oh man I remember loving this game!!!
I have so much in my head these days that I no longer have the ability to get songs stuck in there. But thanks for trying anyway, as it is nice music.
Great game. I would love to see this remade. I mean bubble bobble did...poorly, but, well yeah.
It be fun for snesdrunk to explain every single screen action puzzle games. Definitely need to be drunk to get them.
I played the heck out of this game when my little sister and I lived at our grandma's house, but couldn't beat Vito Mascutone (the Muscat grapes boss) except for a few times. On my NSO, I finally did beat the full game...and it was anticlimactic, to say the least. Ah well, at least Morticia (the witch) and Morty (the raven) won't bother our simian friend anymore.
The music run in my mind since '92, maybe I already told this story but here we go: my father bought us a snes control set with an additional controller, it was cheaper than the snes with 2 controllers and SMW but without game, so my older brother pick spanky's because...why not.
I was like: WTF is this game, why not the mario racer? (you know what game), there was Zelda (more expensive), but we didn't know read english at that time there is was another game that I don't remember, I was pissed, how we gonna interchange games with our friends with this unknown crap? and the game was for one player, so we debut the snes with that, and it was fun...of course, the next week we rent contra but I was starting to dominate the game, and spend hours just listening the music in the option menu, in fact, i still playing to the end this game, and the ending music is epic! (90's style epic)
hope to see a remake, let me know where I sign
Saludos!
It's like someone in 91 looked at all of video gaming and said "people like monkeys and pong, so... Do something with that"
Your intro game is hardcore!
the intro on this one was especially nice 👌
I couldn’t giva flying fuck about who wore who to met gala but somehow I simply MUST know if spanky is worth a play or 2
Mas how I missed your reviews, gonna check the 11 hour long version
I really love the soundtrack for this game the gameplay is a little too slow for me but it's still a fun Little Gem.
Remember seeing this at my local rental shop lol.
0:28 "Spank the Monkey" uh huh huh huh.
Is it possible to do video(s) on the other goemon sequels on snes?
Prepare to get it on, Spanky!
Spanky's Quest has one of the funkiest OSTs on the SNES
Might this be, dare I say, a "hidden gem"...? =p
But I do appreciate seeing lesser known games get the spotlight, especially since some of my favorite games were not the bigger ones, (Hyperzone and Utopia: The Creation of a Nation sitting next to Street Fighter II and Zelda III: A Link to the Past)
