What Will Happen to Your Body If You Walk Every Day

  • Walking is a totally free, easy exercise that requires little effort, and benefits not only your physical but also your mental well-being. If you’re looking for a simple yet very effective way of losing weight and improving your overall health, walking is something just for you.
People who are physically active throughout their life are much less prone to this disease than those who have a more sedentary lifestyle. And that’s because they have more volume in their hippocampus, the part of the brain responsible for verbal memory and learning.
A daily half-hour walk helps avoid serious problems, like coronary heart disease to name one, by lowering high blood pressure and cholesterol levels and improving blood circulation. Because of better-quality and deeper breathing, some symptoms associated with lung disease can show significant improvement thanks to walking.
Muscle tone and weight loss is also totally achievable through simple walking. Find your optimal pace, but don’t break out into a jog. This sort of speed walking is low impact and doesn’t require any recovery time, which means no sore muscles to keep you from getting out and walking the next day.
The Arthritis Foundation recommends at least 30 minutes of moderate walking a day to reduce pain, stiffness, and inflammation in the joints. Building strong bones will help you prevent osteoporosis and reduce bone loss. Walking contributes to better blood circulation within the spinal structures, pumping important nutrients into the soft tissues and improving posture and flexibility, both of which are vital for a healthy spine.
A group of researchers at Iowa State University worked with hundreds of college students. Walking changed their mood for the better, even though no one warned them it could do so.
If you still don’t feel motivated enough to start walking for your health, try joining a class or find a buddy who also wouldn’t mind getting all the benefits of walking. Another idea could be to hire a personal trainer.

    SUMMARY
-Walking prevents the early onset of dementia, reduces the risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease and improves your overall mental well-being by reducing stress and releasing endorphins.
-Get on the road to improve vision and protect your eyes now from potential problems, such as glaucoma, in the future.
-Walking is no less effective than running when it comes to the prevention of heart disease and stroke.
-Walking is an aerobic exercise, which means that it increases oxygen flow in the bloodstream and helps eliminate toxins and waste, which is great for your lungs.
-Walking for exercise is a surprisingly more effective way to prevent diabetes than running is.
-Just half an hour of walking every day not only lowers the risk of developing colon cancer but also improves digestion and regulates bowel movements.
-Just 10,000 steps a day can be just as effective as a full-blown workout at the gym, especially if you add some intervals or uphill walking.
-Walking can provide more joint mobility, prevent the loss of bone density, and even reduce the risk of fractures.
-Walking is a real life-saver for those who experience back pain during more challenging high-impact exercises.
-Walking improves depression symptoms in patients with MDD, just imagine how easily it could help us cope with just feeling down or exhausted.
-Keep in mind the FIT formula. It stands for Frequency (how often), Intensity (how fast), and Time (for how long).

I go wallking every night for 40 minutes. My girlfriend of 4 years broke up with me yesterday and my heart is broken but I still pushed through my 40 minute walk tonight. I cried most of the way at first but I felt better after the walk. I hope walking helps the pain of my broken heart go away.
Update: So it's been nearly a year since this post and I found out a few months ago I wasn't just broken up with. I was being cheated on for about 4 months. I thought she was it and was gonna marry this woman but I dodged a bullet, I guess. She would have cheated on me eventually. I am still walking every day and I am seeing a therapist because she really did a number on my self esteem. Thank you all for all your supportive comments and encouragement. I am 60 pounds down and I don't think I would have had the strength to carry on with this weight loss if she hadn't shattered my heart because I only started walking to help me cope with the sadness of the breakup. I suppose everything happens for a reason.

I have diagnosed PTSD from being in a war while in the military. For 10 years I lived a very unhealthy lifestyle.
About two years ago I weighed 445 pounds. One day, something clicked in me and I realized I had enough. I went outside and went for a walk. I didn't do 30 minutes because I physically couldn't. But each day I went out and gradually increased how much I walked.
Now, two years later, I have lost over 200 pounds and I am walking 2 hours every morning. I've changed my diet and I have a social life with friends and family.
Walking not only changed my life, but it saved my life in ways no medication ever could.
My advice to anyone who wants it: Start small and don't give up. Just walk around the block. Build yourself up to that first mile. And, before you know it, you will be doing 7, 8....15 miles every day. Just don't give up.

@@georgechrome4735 I apologize for the confusion. We wanted a dog for about a decade. We were both professionals with limited time spent at home and we did not think it would be fair to leave the dog alone all day long so we kept on postponing our decision. When I started telecommuting we could finally have a dog at home with me 24x7.. We loved our first dog and adore the second dog; both rescued dogs that saved us. We treat our dogs as our kids. I simply wanted to provide one of the many benefits dogs offer.

I was in an abusive marriage for 25 years, I am 55 years old. The last years in the marriage were horrible. I filed for divorce a year and a half ago. I haven't been able to finalize the divorce, he is a horrible man. While I was married I was suffering from a lot of stomach issues, headaches insomnia and my bones were hurting. I began walking my dogs for 15 minutes everyday a year and half ago. I am up to walking 60 minutes everyday. I have lost 25 pounds and people tell me I look ten years younger. Mentally I am stronger now, no more depression. Walking has literally saved my life and my sanity. You just have to make walking a habit a part of what you do everyday. I am a school teacher and as tired as I get from work, I get home and head out to walk my dogs. I have completed my first walkathon. It's never too late to start taking care of yourself. I ma very glad I started walking.

I was 175lbs when I started. One day i decided to start walking because I was so insecure about how I looked. I lost 30lbs+ in 6 months. First thing I noticed is my face. My double chins disappeared and then I noticed my waist is smaller then noticed my arms is smaller. I can wear whatever I want and eat whatever I want. Just make sure that you're also eat healthy and get enough sleep. So trust me even if you feel like giving up just remember why you start.
