I'm a government employee at the VA in Michigan as a House keeping Work Lead. Recently relocated from Palo Alto, CA. My goal is to secure a government contract as a janitorial cleaning service. I'm also a veteran. Any suggestions/feedback? God bless you. I'm also originally a Chicago native.
Hi Stacey, thank you so much for your feedback! I truly appreciate it. There are a few suggestions that I can make based on what you shared:
1. I would recommend establishing your janitorial company as an LLC
2. Secure at least three clients on your own before beginning the certification application and make sure you get invoices and proof of payment into your business bank account with these clients
3. The way that they select what vendors they choose when it comes to a contract opportunity is heavily based on your past performances and showing that you have the capacity to take on the workload they are proposing, so keep that in mind as you are working to acquire clients aside from those through the government
4. Become certified as a woman minority veteran on business and you will certainly be a great candidate when it comes time to submit a deb based on having all of those credentials!

Does it make sense to apply for this if you are a property manager or a landlord of multiunit properties and you are looking to rent a space to them?
Hi, this is a good question. This is for people who want to do business with government agencies or private corporations.
If you’re not looking to do business with those those entities, the certification wouldn’t necessarily be helpful for you.

As I was looking through one of your other videos, you make mention that the certification only makes sense if you are selling something that the government is buying. Is there a site to look at what services they are looking to purchase?
@@Bnito yes, every state has a buying plan that typically shows what products/services they are looking to acquire. So I encourage you to look at your state’s website to find the buying plan.
I just started my llc but have now experi3nce what's the easiest way to get some so I can qualify for the certification
I would work on getting smaller clients instead of large contracts. Selling your product/service to an individual or small organizations still qualifies as experience.

Would it make sense for a junk removal business to get MBE certified?
Yes, I would say so if you're dealing with hauling junk from Construction projects
Cleaning business?
Yes you can, as long as can prove that you have experience performing the service you are getting certified for. Even if you've worked for another company that still counts as experience.
Dump truck ?
A dump truck business can certainly get certified there is plenty of opportunity in that space.
