    I have found that using a bricklayers trowel raises the shingles with less damage to the shingles. It is thinner and wider than a wonder bar/ flat bar and want poke a hole in the shingles and slides under the shingle better!

      Agreed
      Even a kitchen spatula is better to use then pulling and tugg’n on the shingles

    I'm not sure why there was the statement of that " this is or could be a trial and error thing" roofing is not trial and error. Its take a very certain person and skill level to be a roofers. I have never returned to a leak when i got a call but then again i been roofing 17 years now and own a roofing company. Not trying to knock you guys as your actually up on the roof and for that i command you for that but we should have been able to find that leak with out pulling any of them shingles off and by the way them look like IKO's and if so that's a whole different topic to talk about. Nice work guys you got the job done tho and that is what matters. Hope Custmer was happy. No one wants water falling on there fucking head from and roof leaking that's no fun. I apologize for my typing you know us rooofers always beat up phones screen protectors cracked and case is barely hanging on lol.

    How long after you have put on a new roof will it take to have the nails get rusty if they are having water go through them?

    I have a roof leak and my roof is roughly 15 years old. I can’t find any roofer who will come out to try to find a leak, but only will do a roof. What do you do in cases like this? It’s very frustrating because I hired a neighbor roofer and there really was no formal paperwork, under the table basically and he’s moved. Does this mean I need to replace an entire roof over a leak?

      Find a handyman. Ask around for trusted workers--not necessarily roofing experts. Don't pick the cheapest or most available guy. Get the one who is honest about how challenging it is to find a leak sometimes.
      Or watch some more videos and get up there yourself. It's hot, awful, dangerous work, but if you have the right ladders and know-how it's not that hard.
      I'm searching for a leak now too on a client's house (after pulling their rotten soffit off, but before installing the new one). I'm not a roofer, but from underneath I can already tell the installers didn't penetrate the decking with their nails, so I expect I'll be searching for other leaks soon.

    What if you can’t lift up the shingles? My roof is about 8 years old and it’s super difficult to get a pry bar underneath them to pry them up. What would you do then?

    • @pryan5751
      @pryan5751 Před 2 lety +1

      the older the roof the easier it should be you just have to take it slow and be patient with the bar

    I remember this one leak back when I was working for another company, they used foggers, tore the roof, rebuilt it, re shingled it twice! had to work overtime too! i had already put in my 2 weeks. but I heard it was still leaking lol. it was somewhere near the chimney. I’m sure they eventually fixed it without me. they even had a roofer take a look. maybe it was the bricks

    My roof has staples. I'm currently tracing a leak. If you have a damaged drywall ceiling, is it possible to look up through the ceiling and find staining beneath the roof and 'zero in' on the source of the leak that way?

    • @Z-Ack
      @Z-Ack Před 4 lety +12

      Better way is to walk around on the roof like your listening to some funky music and the place where you get a little more funky walkin and get to bouncing, found yer leak... now if ya fall through ya got too funky with it or your a real american and dont have no place being on a roof when you were raised by putting gravy on everything.. then yea you can spot it from underneath and point at it.. dunno if itll help all that much.. but pointing always gets somebody else looking..

    While I appreciate your putting up the video and sharing the "follow the rust" principle, I am disappointing you did not show where the "under driven nail" (also called nail pop) had punched a hole in the shingle above and was actually letting the water in.

      That’s was my thinking also
      The didn’t found source of leak
      They just found wet spots
      So repair in this case useless
      Till you will find actual source of leak

      Rhonda Mills a nail that is not all the way down.

    • @billyn9580
      @billyn9580 Před 6 lety +1

      Rhonda Mills an example is a nail that bent because of hitting a nail on an underlying nail like that cap nail. If they just left it or pulled it out without using a sealing solution like tar.

    Friggn roofers are some mutant bred humans.. long sleeves on an asphault roof on a hot ass day and you know its humid also.. i tried my damndest to do my own roof work.. about died.. everytime id get up there.. trying to install apron and drip edge laying on that boiling roof, cant put your elbos down cuz theyll burn but if i wore sleeves if for sure have passed slick out... different breed of human.. mexi breeds. And thats a job i gladly pay for and wonder how the hell they work with 15 people on a thousand sqft roof.. got the whole thing done in 3 hours though.. ive had poops longer than that..
