  • The Crohn’s Disease Exclusion Diet is based on excluding elements of the Western diet that are associated with causing inflammation and changing the environment of the gut. It includes whole foods consisting of fruits, vegetables, meats, potatoes, rice and eggs whilst excluding processed meats, dairy, wheat, seeds, animal fats, sauces and packaged snacks. Watch this video to learn more about how the Crohn's disease exclusion diet can be used to help manage Crohn's disease.

I think this should be updated, considering all the new data coming out regarding animal fats, saturated fats, omega 3s, and omega 6s. Most of this info of yours is good, but PLEASE hear me out:
Grass fed, free range, organic animals are much lower in harmful omega 6 fats compared to grain/corn fed animals. Furthermore, grass fed animals have higher omega 3s which reduce inflammation among many other health benefits. We have been eating and cooking with grass fed fats for THOUSANDS of years, but only recently, populations around the world have started to experience heart disease and chronic diseases at a scale previously unheard of before the 1900s. After the 1900s, synthetic seed oils largely replaced what we’ve been cooking with for tens of thousands of years. In terms of fats, you need to stay away from seed oils, vegetable oils, and oils with a “high smoke point”. In order to achieve a high smoke point, the fats need to go through many heating cycles, often reaching 500F. These extreme heating processes break down and damage the fats, essentially creating poison every time it’s heated. A great frying fat alternative that naturally has a high smoke point is Ghee, which is essentially clarified butter.
If you can’t give up oils, the best oils are cold pressed extra virgin olive oil and coconut oil, both of which go through no heating process. Be careful about avocado oil too. Look for the green colored avocado oil which means it has gone through no heat process before hand. Clear, slightly yellow avocado oil means it’s already been heated many times before being put into the bottle.
Don’t give up naturally occurring grass fed animal fats. Fat is a great calorie and your body has been conditioned for tens of thousands of years to naturally break down both saturated and unsaturated fats from animals. Carbs, sugars, omega6 polyunsaturated fats, easily oxidized fats, all contribute to chronic low grade inflammation. The greatest nutritional lie ever conceived is that fat in general is unhealthy. Good quality, natural fats will make you eat less, stay full for longer, and help reduce inflammation! I hope this reaches someone, and please don’t take my word for it, do some research about fats after you’re done reading this!

Yes your bmi will end up low without grass fed beef and likely have osteoporosis, it’s just impossible to keep muscle mass up after menopause and I was pescatarian but now my bmi is 16 I can’t gain weight and so I’ve added grass fed beef and make sure chicken is grass fed . When your in a flare vegetables can be difficult. I use fodmap to help me choose the right ones . Thank you for raising this point I’ve had crohns over 20 years that I know about and likely had since HS definitely 19 for sure was major flare , not properly treated , anxiety and ulcer protocol and diet is what I followed to feel better .

Artificial dyes used in the food industry used to be made from coal tar and petroleum based items. Today the red dye 40, yellow dye 5 and 6 and brilliant blue contain soy derivatives. Almost all the emulsifiers used in the food supply are soy based except for carrageenan and it causes cancer. Processed meats contain soy based preservatives and MSG to keep them stable. Good seed companies do not use hydrogenated oils to process the roasted seeds and nuts. Cheap companies do. Maybe this will help someone.

This is very helpful. Curious how you learned all this information, you’re probably going to say reading, but just thought I’d ask .

Knowledge is accumulated from doctors, research, products labels, trial and error. Everyday battle to stay happy and healthy. Maybe someone can be assisted in their journey because some suffer daily.

Thank you Michael, I too suffer daily but Drs and other medical practitioners are put off by me , no matter how kind I try to be when standing up for myself. I too like to research. Yet I’m called hysterical and crazy and certainly can’t know anything. I’m just trying to have a few good moments a day to make my parents feel joyful . I hate that they feel helpless. All the best to you .

All the foods not allowed with the exception of dairy contain soy derivatives. And most people allergic to soy will also have a dairy allergy.

Chicken has to be grass fed , and I can’t eat dark meat .

Fresh chicken is fine. Frozen chicken with 15 percent chicken broth most of the time contains soy. Keeps the chicken freezer stable. Restaurants sometimes use the frozen pieces.

No gluten , no dairy, no soy - thanks for info about frozen chicken that explains a lot . Btw what about those rotisserie chicken cooked at super markets- sometimes I’m okay with- other lots of pain ?

Rotisserie chickens from the market usually contain two or three types of soy products. Seasonings, emulsifiers, broth and MSG.

I would recommend free range and organic. I cant eat regular eggs and chicken but the eggs from our coup and free range chickens, grass fed beef raised w/o antibiotics reacted totally differently with me. was diagnosed in 2004. didnt feel better till I dropped normal recommended diet and went all organic. I still do no high processed foods and little grains. I also dont do any pork or dairy.
fish and grass fed beef fats I do fine with as well as fats from avacado, olive, and coconut oils now. I do fine with most vegetables. I raise most myself but if I buy feom store its organic as well.
Ive found after having a food diary for so long, pesticides/ chemicals triggered flares that I thought was the food itself triggering.
been conventional med free now about 6 months. I do still have small flares but manageable and have started taking a few things like boswellia and ashwagandha but haven't been on them long enough to give report. In 17 years Ive not had to have any surgeries and I believe its mostly from attention and change early in diet. keeping stress down is HUGE as well.
I study scripture which for me personally has helped with stess over the years.
Just wanted to share my experiences over the years. bodies are different and many factors can cause things to take more time, but Crohn's has a lot to do with trial and error.
      ✌❤

Egg can sometimes be a problem, but I found the issue is with the yolk. Try just egg whites and it will hopefully help!
