  • In this Liquitex Pouring Medium Review we analyze the pouring medium's cost, how it mixes, how the colors look before and after the pour, and how the medium and paint dry. We also reviewed 10 other pouring mediums. You can see our Pouring Medium Roundup video here ►►► • 11 common POURING MEDI...
    Liquitex Professional Pouring medium is definitely a premium pouring medium. It dries perfectly glossy, mixes quickly and fully with almost any acrylic paint, keep colors vibrant and beautiful, and usually costs a bit more than other pouring mediums.
    HOWEVER, when you really take a look at the cost, the initial price can be deceiving. If purchased in bulk at a gallon at a time (128 oz) then you can actually get this pouring mediums for considerably less than you would expect.

    The problem with liquitex is that people use the same recipe as floetrol. Liquitex is far superior. What liquitex does is keep the pigments so that enough water can be used to achieve the desired thinness of the paint. You don't have to use that much liquitex. When I started I used that amount until I heard Mely D. Now I just cover the paint a little with liquitex on top and this allows me to add almost 30% to 40% water depending on the paint and the technique that I'm going to use.

    • @LeftBrainedArtist
      @LeftBrainedArtist  Před 3 lety +5

      That is indeed a great point. The binders in Liquitex are much greater than other non professional mediums so your diluting no-go point gets much lower in the % range. It depends on the affects I want to get to decide if I use more PM or more water.

Just finally found Glue All gallon in Lowes, Michaels and Joanne's do not sell it here, so no coupon there either. But now I will be vigilant. I would like to ask you what is it that I am doing that makes a predictable striation effect with lots o small rivulets but few cells. Also I always get a muddied blob in the center where everything around it is lovely. Lots of small cells. Using Oggi dimethicone (hair stuff).

      Use thicker paint to get more definition between colors. Layer the paint in sections rather than pour the paint deeply into the other paints which makes the paint mix more. Use more paint to pouring medium ratio (1:1 or 1:2) to help the color really stand out. Don't use craft paints. Pour the paint out of the cup very slowly and from as close to the canvas as you can for techniques like a tree ring or a straight pour. Those would be my first suggestions.
