Almost all black clothing eventually begins to fade after repeated washing and drying, leaving you with a closet full of dull grey shirts and pants. Instead of going out and buying new clothing to replace your faded items, try out one of the techniques for restoring the color of your garments at home.

Well, it appears to have brightened the colours in a vintage polycotton early '80s shirt I thrifted. I boiled the leaves (about 20-30 of them) for about 20 mins to make an infusion. Water was slightly pink. Let the liquid cool a bit, then soaked the garment over night, rinsed in my machine and air-dried. Colours are more vivid. Thank you to HomeArt TV for sharing!

What if there are multi colored pieces, will the colors bleed over into other items?
Yeah pretty sure I got a moncler polo shirt there’s no way I’m trying this It would ruin and badges is well.
I have a multicolored Ralph Lauren Polo shirt that I did this with and all the colors came out much brighter and didn't bleed or run into the other colors. One stripe was even white. I'm so glad this worked.
I really don't see much difference

@@jennytaylor3324 do we need to rinse out the bay leaf water with clean water or directly dry?
@@rabiasheik9812 It's ages ago now, but I think i did a machine rinse and spin! Good luck.
This method doesn't work, your color will remain same.
I'm trying this now. I'll report findings!
how did this end up for you? i want to try on camo shorts
the colors of my camo is brown and green i just want to bring the color back
@@JoseGuzman-py9rp It might work. Adding 1/2 to 1 cup of baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) to a wash boosts cleaning and whitens sheets, so it might brighten your camo fatigues, too. Depends why they're dull. If it's UV light fading, then prob won't be redeemable.
@@jennytaylor3324 its been washed to many times thats all, so boil the bay leaves with the baking soda??
@@JoseGuzman-py9rp I see.
I soaked the garment in an infusion of bay leaves which I made by simmering them in water for about 20 mins after first bringing them to the boil in a pan. I let the infusion cool a bit, them soaked the garment overnight. Seemed to help.
I mentioned the bicarb, as I add it to my machine washes when I want to restore whites. I guessed it might boost colours too, and apparently it does. I found this on the web: "Add 1/2 cup of baking soda to the wash when you add your regular liquid detergent. Baking soda will give you sharper whites, brighter brights, and odor-free clothing."
So I suppose you could try the bay leaves first, or try the bicarb first - which ever you have in the house (if you have either of them to hand?). Or try both, one after the other, if the first method doesn't work. I wouldn't mix the bicarb with bay, as there will be different alkaline/acid levels, I'd guess.
I'm no expert, it's just trial and error! : )
Can anyone confirm this
Raw leaves
I used fresh leaves as i hv bay plant..it worked amazingly for me
