I feel so much for you all - even this lays 3 years in the past. Lost my whole belongings several times in life and know how such moments feel. One can only move on.
i saw these out of sequence, so well recovered. In Africa there'd be two scenarios: you arrive there and everything is gone, or you arrive there and there's a family of 10 living there :D
You and Brooke have inspired me to get a wall tent for later this year. Right now, all I have is a regular 6 person camping tent. (I don’t know if that will even last the summer...) glad to have your videos to learn from.
Sorry for your trouble David...I admire your attitude and resolve...While its a hand your needing, I regret that all i can offer are my prayers...so a prayer is inbound...be safe and we will see you in the next one...atvb...woods
Hard work man. Be strong. Know your family will hang tough and get it all done with you. God bless you and know that lots of us respect and pray for you.
This veteran, new subscriber, too, appreciates how you handled the flag. You folded it well enough, Dave. Sorry that you returned to a mess and I would gladly give you a hand but you're a long way from Virginia. Your cabin looks awesome. I have dreamed about living in a cabin in a wilderness area. However, my wife is a beach person. Maybe one day I'll get my wish. Good luck, Dave!
That made me wish I was there to give you a hand straightening up Dave. Here in the interior of BC, there's just no way that you'd expect a tent to stand over the winter without somebody to clear snow every day or two. Old mother nature treats everyone the same. Hard lesson. I admire the way that you just got to work and did your best to get the place cleaned up for your family. Good on ya!
That's too bad about your tent! So sorry that happened! You will pull things together again and it will be better than ever! Thanks for sharing your adventures and disasters! Hope everything turns out ok!
You are a bad ass Dave. Thanks for sharing your challenges and accomplishments. Very inspiring. Grateful for good content. Rooting for you and your family. Good bless you and yours
OH MY! So sorry about your wall tent. Yes, I live in a wall tent in the summer time.. but take it down in the fall 'cause of the snow. I look forward to seeing your cabin completed. Cheers!!
Oh no! Dave, it's so sad to see your tent in a desaster like this! It will be a lot of work to clean this up. Strength and confidence to you. Look at your amazing cabin, it's in sound condition and almost finished! This will be your new home in Alaska! Keep going! 🌞🌲🏡
sorry for your loss Dave! but, you were right about taking care of things yourself. You have a good state of mind and i know you will work through this! Keep thinking positive, all will work out.... Tom n Rocky
It's a lesson learned Dave! I can't tell you how many videos I've watched on winter bushcamping and they ALWAYS talk about making sure they don't leave the tent for any length of time because the snow will crush it. I follow a couple that have an island in Northern Canada. Every winter he skidoos over to the island & puts up his beautiful huge white wall tent. They camp there every weekend in the winter. He also has to most often ski over during the week if there's been a snowfall. He talks about the probability of the tent caving in. 😕 There is also a lady that has a summer location and she always has to take her big wall tent down before the snow flies. You best get to building a storage shed. I would suggest a good sloped metal roof. At least get a solid heavy duty frame up and even if you have to plywood it up this fall, you can can return next year to finish it up properly. You are a great guy Dave! I hope you don't make that mistake again.
You've got a great pioneering attitude! That's what gets you through when things start to suck. But you know that by now... I hope things are going better now. Keep cool...
Praying for you & the family that you get what is needed & desired for your home. Just started watching you but love your attitude, Clean up & make the best of a bad situation... T.Y.F.S. GOD BLESS...
Looked like Bigfoot went thru there and just ripped it all up! I can tell your bummed. At least the outhouse was good to go! lol You'll get on top of it all... just keep at it. Sub #6 says congrats on 11,000 subs Dave... you have come a long way Buddy... Cheers
God bless you in your rebuilding! We are much wiser when we learn from our mistakes or lack of action. Your coffee cup is a symbol that you have many many great mornings / days of enjoying the java of life!
Holy crap! Keep at it Dave, it will be a long road to clean up but time will heal all wounds. You will be living good in the cabin soon enough. Cheers!
Bad luck Dave with the snow damage. You and Brooke will work around and get by somehow. When you are as strong together as you both are you can cope with anything. Best wishes to you and your children.
That is sure a shame about that shelter. We had a neighbor who had a shelter like that quite a few years ago. They used it as a carport. Theirs also collapsed from snowload. Hope thing are moving along well for you now.
Bummer, sir! Glad you and Maisy got there safely ... sorry your shelters got totalled over winter. As you said, moving on with life. I know the feeling! God Bless :)
So sorry to hear this, Dave. I can't tell you how disappointed I would have been had it been my place. Good luck on the clean up, and I wish you the best.
Awww... Poor tent! Ur a good man Dave... for getting home ready for ur family. This is one way to purge out the old and make room for the new (trying to be positive!).
😱 Ohhhh Noooo! I'm so sorry Dave you work so hard. 😞 well I'm glad you have your other 2 cabins. The one your building is looking good. Keep your chin up buddy! Love watching your videos. Your doing a great job!
As someone a bit older I had to laugh. Really enjoy your stories, you are a great story teller and I enjoy your videos. Really enjoy your carpentry skills; definitely saw and learned some things. Much love!
Great to see you back at it. So sorry about the mess you had to come back to though. But like my grandpa used to say, don't let the clouds of hardships get you down today. tomorrow will always bring happy sunny days
Dave you handled this amazing. I would be in a corner with my knees tucked to my chest crying like a baby. Good luck man. Watching you on Alone, I know you can do it.
Sometimes life can be a little sucky and how we respond determines if it stays that way. Love your attitude and determination. Also, great lesson learned about the pasta! haha. God bless!
Sorry you had to deal with that mess again Dave. Thanks for rescuing old glory, I was concerned about her. Best (funniest) part was your observation about store bought mac n cheese. You don’t need that crappy processed food in your life. Be well, have a great summer.
Too bad Dave, what a mess. We spent last winter in a travel trailer and if I had not constantly cleared snow off the roof the whole thing would have caved in. Most days I had to do and hour or two shovelling. I am planning to build a few sturdy shelters to keep my stuff safe before winter comes again. I lived in a wall tent for 3 years while I built my cabin. I loved every minute of it until while trying to dry things out after moving into the cabin she burned down. The first year wintering in the wall tent we had 3 plus feet of snow and minus 20 degree temperatures. But as long as I kept the fire burning and the snow pulled off the tent it was wonderful.

1st 'like' on the video! Not that I was actually liking your circumstances...but liked that you share all with us...the good and the bad. Keep the positive spirit and the tide will change. Enjoy your summer in AK Whipple family!
Oh wow! Sorry to see you come home to a disaster. I can only imagine you need as many hours as possible just to focus on the cabin, now you had to deduct time for clean up, salvage and recovery. You have a good attitude about it all.
Dave, I empathize with your situation. I have had that happen to me as well a couple of times when I lived in Wyoming. It could be worse though. You could have the wife and kids with you, that would be a rough time for sure. Is there anyway you could get a shipping container up there to keep your stuff in? They are dry and pretty secure if you have the right lock on them.
That's horrible - truly sorry that I live too far away to help with the cleanup and rebuild. I remember the mess you found from last year and this is so much worse.
I am so sorry this has happened to you guys! But Dave, lucky that you have all the skills to fix this. Now if it were me, well let's all have a good laugh.
Just found your channel absolutely love it. I want to build a vertical log cabin on my land in New York State. We have a lot of poplar which is related to aspen hoping that works since we do not use them for fire wood.
I’m sure it’s devastating to come home to such disaster. Luckily you have an incredibly unified family that works well together (as in Yukon River Run) and with many hands, you’ll get things back in shape. Blessings to you and all the Whipple.
I'm watched old videos...I notice a Great Alaskan Pizza Co box... My cousin Katie's husband, Don, owns that place in North Pole.. Lol... Yummy stuff.... I love your's and Brooke's channels.. I'm from there but was raised in SC due to adoption. I'm planning to come home as soon as I can... My husband and I have been binge watching and learning what we can from you both. Thank you so much!! PS I would like to buy an ulu if you still make them
About 40 years ago in NE CT a metal building company sold steel quonset huts that were designed for down south. A heavy snow winter had them all collapse. You could invest in a welder/generator to repair those pipes. If you do set up another shelter, use the salvaged pipes to double up the frame. Good Luck, Rick
It's sad that your tent caved in like that and the money that you put into it and the time and effort. And all you can do is move on, clean up, organize and move on. My heart goes out to you because I know what it's like to put that much work into something and then have it go by the wayside.😢
Sorry to hear about the wall tent, pretty sucky situation. I hope the neighbors at least apologize for not following through and for the trouble they’ve caused you. Hope you have an enjoyable summer and aren’t stuck finishing the cabin the whole time.
Bummer Dave. I remember seeing a video Brooke did about the wall tent. Well .... R.I.P. wall tent. I wish I could be there and help ya set a big bonfire. Onward to progress!!!
Dave, good to see you made it to Alaska with out any issue.I see you had a little set back.Itill be alright.brush it all off and move on.thats what life's all about.a challenge around every corner. with out it what would it all mean! We use bleach and water but we have fresh green logs and they are wet and mold easy. I'd have to take a look at yours.

Thanks Rick
Glad the cabin wasn't hurt. Wish I could join you up there.
Thanks THC!
It's sad that your tent caved in like that and the money that you put into it and the time and effort.
And all you can do is move on, clean up, organize and move on.
My heart goes out to you because I know what it's like to put that much work into something and then have it go by the wayside.😢
Hahaha Sorry about the Tent....But a Great Adventure you took us on hahaha...Thanks

Sorry to hear about the wall tent, pretty sucky situation. I hope the neighbors at least apologize for not following through and for the trouble they’ve caused you.
Hope you have an enjoyable summer and aren’t stuck finishing the cabin the whole time.
Thanks.
