    Before install. Use a big pair of channel locks to pull the E&T together. Works like a charm hope it helps.

    Cool build! I did one of those for a customer a few years back. He loved it! Bye a quick trick when bolting up GM torque converters start with the oval bolt hole in the flex to start. Pull the converter forward and zap the bolt down and then the last 2. It makes it so you only have to spin the engine over once.

    Did the original 1985 transmission crossmember line up with the original holes in the frame once the tranny was mounted or did you have to drill new holes into the frame? Also, the 5.3L engine oil pan is deeper than the original 305/350 oil pan. Did you see any problem with the deep oil pan or would you suggest finding a shallower aftermarket engine oil pan?

    • @UglyTruckExperience
      @UglyTruckExperience  Před 2 lety +2

      The frame had to be drilled for its new spot. I would have preferred to use a lower profile pan but unfortunately we are always on a budget. We have another one coming up that we will put a shorter one on.

    Thanks for your video. I am working on a 72 c10 with same motor and transmission. I was wondering what you used for a shift linkage to steering column and transmission hoses.

    • @UglyTruckExperience
      @UglyTruckExperience  Před 2 lety +1

      We have done the shifter linkage a couple different ways. It depends on how your exhaust is routed. On our 70 C10, we tucked the exhaust up a little higher, so we modified the steering column to go directly to the 4L60E shift cable. But on this 85, we dipped the exhaust down enough to use the original linkage. (Here's a link to Jerry explaining it: czcams.com/video/TO7AwQB-2Z4/video.html) We will have a video showing how we hook the original linkage to the 4L60E coming soon, as well as one about the transmission lines and the wiring. Thanks for watching!

  • @Fahrenheit_Motorsports

    Howdy Folks! Two questions, I’ve been browsing around videos while I’m waiting for truck parts to arrive. Anyways, just to confirm the drive shaft you are using in this video is the stock c10 shaft correct? I’ve got a long bed that getting converted to a shorty so that’s one of my issues is the driveshaft lengths or finding one that might swap indirectly. I don’t mind ordering a new one if needed but I’m trying to be budget friendly as I’ve got so many old crusty parts to replace on the truck in general…like every suspension piece including bushing 😂
    2nd Q: For the trans cross member. Mine is also currently held in place with two bolts, one per side. Did you just drill out new holes for the remaining bolts? I think I’m going to bite the bullet and order a direct LS swap cross member for ground clearance with exhaust but I’d love your feedback. Your most recent video making the exhaust tubing for the 86 actually allowed exhaust to be tucked up into the frame so you solved all problems. Thanks in advance ❤

    • @UglyTruckExperience
      @UglyTruckExperience  Před rokem

      I ended up using the original drive shaft from this truck but did have to have it shortened. I have always used the stock cross member. I do drill out some new bolt holes for it. Using the stock one just saves me some money and the transmission sits in the perfect spot with a new tranny mount. Thanks for watching. Jerry

      I’ve been meaning to ask you because I’m sure you’ve come across it. When one of the rear leaf spring packs start to sag, do you re-arch them or get replacements? After everything I’ve seen come out of your shop I’ve got to assume you fix the problem instead of throwing money at it. Any suggestions if you do re-arch?

      @@UglyTruckExperience I'm in New Mexico. I found an 84 in a wrecking yard that I can try to pull the springs from. I haven't even priced out a new spring pack to see if I’m wasting my time going budget. Figured I’d ask someone knowledgeable on the platform.

      Ok, Those wires that come from the frame to to the 2 speed transfer case. One plug is Dark Green wire and Light Blue. The other plug is a Yellow wire and purple wire. One of them goes to front prop shaft sensor and the other to the rear shaft. The actual vss sensor plugs into the left side of the transfer case and is a Purple with white stripe, and Light Green with Black stripe. That connector is the VSS connector that you need. It comes from the engine wiring wiring harness and busts out of the harness about 8 inches past the PRNDL switch mounted on the transmission. It is a very small connector and very easy to overlook. Take a good look and see if you can find it. If not, let me know. Jerry

      The crossmember ends up getting moved back a few inches either way but I'm not sure but the 4l80 might have a larger case which would cause a clearance issue at the transmission tunnel, depending on what your putting it in.
