This isn't the only way to do it.
It's probably not the best way to do it.
But it's how I did it.

I hope those new servos work in the Lights. I Would Like you To Continue to work on that project

A nice haul! you always find the neatest things. Quite interested in the macropad and nvme encosure. For the macropad, interested to hear if you get the configuration utility working with wine. I also just set up a quick windows vm, which is another option.

You could put the servos in your small stage lights and control them from your RC controller. LOL

Definitely going to snag a couple of those SSD cases when I upgrade my laptop memory.

    Monday again tempus fugit, 🙂

Unless the keyboard is doing something weird, you should be able to detect the individual keys in Linux and map them, though that knob might be a challenge.

You have to be careful with those SSD enclosures. They don’t all dissipate heat the same. My recommendation is to get an app that tracks SSD temperature and find out the optimum operating conditions for the specific SSD.

      Good thing to think about.
Though, in my application, I doubt it will be connected for more than an hour at a time.

I wonder if you could add pads to the nvme drive so it acts as a heat sink

Lets hope the tracks don't fall off the PCB after you try to solder parts, like the stuff I bought about 5 years ago. I buy local now and the PCBs are much better.
What vid edit are you using - I'm using the cheap Videostudio, but I'm thinking about switching -

I've been using KDEnlive for the last 3 years.

What is the little USB-looking thing with a loop on it at around 6:40? Thanks! Is it the transmitter and it plugs into a USB-A port of the controller device?

    • @pileofstuff
      @pileofstuff  Před 9 měsíci

That's a jumper wire to put it into "pairing mode" so it can be associated with the transmitter.

That is not a NVMe drive enclosure. It has the B key only not the B+M or M key that NVMe need. You have to be really careful buying these as they spam the title with all keywords but each one only supports one protocol. Usually the Realtek 9201B's are the best chipsets now for USB3.1 speeds (~875MBps real world) out of NVMe. They are all over eBay, Ali and Temu for 6 to 12 USD mostly.

Just checked - this one does have an RTL9201 on it. And it does have the M key (5 pins)

  • @YoutubeBorkedMyOldHandle_why

Something hurt my ears, so I squinted a bit and sure enough, your servos have their torque reported as 0.7kg/cm. But torque is measured in F*d not F/d, or more specifically it should be 0.7kgF*cm. Now that this is out of the way, I can relax and watch the rest of your video.

I would have just sent you one of my custom macro pads if you would have asked :)

I was thinking of making one of my own when you did that project, but I got lazy when I saw how cheap this one was.

Hope you are able to capture and display the HID signals sent by your keyboard thingy, and simply define the meaning in a file.
Ah, here it is: evtest, xev, /etc/udev/hwdb.d/60-usb_thingamabobby.hwdb
It must be a CCP directive to make foreign language instructions as strange as possible.
They probably have special classes that train in this.
