Lyrics:
Hello darkness, my old friend
I've come to talk with you again
Because a vision softly creeping
Left its seeds while I was sleeping
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains within the sound of silence
In restless dreams I walked alone
Narrow streets of cobblestone
'Neath the halo of a street lamp
I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed
By the flash of a neon light
That split the night
And touched the sound of silence
And in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand people, maybe more
People talking without speaking
People hearing without listening
People writing songs
That voices never share
And no one dare
Disturb the sound of silence
"Fools" said I, "you do not know
Silence like a cancer grows
Hear my words that I might teach you
Take my arms that I might reach to you"
But my words like silent raindrops fell
And echoed in the wells of silence
And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon God they made
And the sign flashed out it's warning
And the words that it was forming
And the sign said
"The words of the prophets
Are written on the subway walls
And tenement halls"
And whispered in the sound of silence

Alright you guys!! Let me know what you think! I'll be answering comments all day! Don't forget to SUBSCRIBE! I never ask/say that. Let's try it today!!! :) #hollensfamily #youlikeit?
Peter Hollens THIS WAS AWESOME!!! nice job😊. good luck on the next one ☺
Peter Hollens Great cover! Awesome rendition of one of my favorite songs. :)
Okay I'm sold. This is hands down my new favorite version of Sound of Silence. Thank you for this :) #ILoveIt
Peter Hollens dude you and tim are so amazing together
One of my favourite song. Considering that it is pretty old, I didn't really think you are going to make a cover of this song! Also, I am the 45th Comment, and 1,268th View, viewing only 4 minutes after posting, pretty early this time!
if tim and pentatonix' avi combined forces their bass could probably shatter the earth or something like that. sounds soo good.
Home Free's cover of "Ring of Fire" brought them together.
on my way
DeaconTaylor Add Geoff Castalucci from Voiceplay. And yes, the world would shatter.
Talk about bonus ear candy day - this glorious thing AND a new PTX cover on the same day. Honest to Pete, I've died and gone to heaven.
Check out Home Fred's cover of Ring of Fire. Avi was featured. It was AMAZING.
Who thinks Tim’s voice is like melting chocolate, so smooth and silky
I do. You could cuddle it like a new kitten. Or, better yet, cuddle with it. Lol.
Tim Foust, Peter Hollens, Avi, Pentatonix if they all worked together to sing this song would be the most legendary musical event ever; same if that combo did a few other songs.
NO. We need Voiceplay Home free, PTX, avi and Peter hollens-- any a capella groups and people ever.
They would shatter the earth with those basses
@@brenjmorris this would be an absolutely amazing blend and combo!!! Definitely giving a thumbs up to that!!!
YES !!!!!!
Geoff Castellucci needs to be part of it as well! his voice goes a lot deeper than Tim's and Avi's! all 3 of them are amazing!
I've been a singer since I was two. I've sung in a children's choir for eight years, sung everything from Panis Angelicus to Shuberts Ave Maria, in a 45 piece choir in church for 35 years, blues and rock. I'm pushing 70 years old, been praised by professional and just ordinary music appreciators. In all my years I have never experienced voices like angels on high. You angels have fallen out of heaven to earth . You touch my soul and all that hear you. It is truly a God given gift. There's nothing else I can say but I love you angels. Never become silent. Louie the voice.
Give Angelina Jordan a listen you will enjoy her voices. Every song has a different sound.
@@ravaniawright6004 If you liked this you will love Penatatonix's version and their cover of Hallelujah is unbelievable
Do you have any recordings or videos on CZcams? Or another platform?
High praise!
@louis trombetta would you like to be friends on Facebook or talk sometime in a messaging app?
After hearing the Disturbed cover of this song, I thought I would never hear another version of this song that gave me chills. You proved me wrong. This is amazing, thank you.
I thought the same.
Not even close. I kept waiting for something to happen and it didn't. This was dull and lacking all the way through. Gonna have to go listen to David Draiman sing it now to clean this crap version out of my ears.
Jax The Reaper what did you want to happen
Sorry but Disturbed still wins. Not saying this is a bad version though, its better than the original and they are very talented. Disturbed just does it better.
Listen to simon and garfunkel and why they wrote it. The reason will make anyone think any version us deep
I have never heard a voice that I could seriously FEEL from my head to my toes. Tim Foust voice is like a champagne butter, smooth, creamy and leaves you feeling all tingly.
Deborah Davis 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Deborah Davis it’s the fact his vocal cords are so long and he can make them go slack so much that he can hit unworldly notes he’s a walking sound system
Yes!
Deborah Davis You couldn’t have described the Tingly Feeling Any BETTER 🥰😋‼️
If you think this one was good, wait till you hear the one done by Disturbed. That one broke a lot of record and was even acknowledged by the original creator of Sound of Silence.
Tim’s range absolutely blows my mind!!! Awesome arrangement
So I have a mild form of Synesthesia, where taste and sound process as colors. When it's very rich and complex like this, it's very intense for me. If I could convey how I'm hearing you, I'd say your sound looks like a polished wood sculpture with beautiful growth rings and knots. This collab was oak, but your voice has also looked like maple and walnut. At least that's what this nut sees.
Signed in to say I appreciate your pun at the end :) Also I love hearing how people with synesthesia perceive things. Have you heard and watched quarter past four by avi kaplan?
@@teshn1229 Since my synesthesia is a more mild form, it really only pops sometimes, like with a strong emotion or when the sensation is isolated so I can more easily identify it. I like Avi, but that song didn't hit me as viscerally as Peter's two previously mentioned, which means I had to concentrate more. The song you mentioned reminds me of is the color of a rainy sky reflected in a pond, but that's more what the sounds were shaped in the guitar along with his voice plus some suggestion from the cover art. Usually Avi's voice is mahogany or... hmmm...lava. Had to think of it. That was a surprise.
Wait a minute, I'm a bit lost. Call me what you will, but I didn't know that Synthesia was something more than the programme.
SaffronSphinx interesting, what sensation do you get when you watch Disturbed’s version of this song?
What colours did you see ? Fascinated
when that bass starts popping in, really completes the sound.
lateish but idc. I wanna see Peter, Avi, and Tim sing a song together. All that bass would be simply amazing
That would be epic!
Vro nice profile pic. Love FEA; would love to hear Peter do a cover of the theme for Endgame: Grima, I'd cry
Trey Miller that would be awesome!
Especially if he re-did the Misty Mountains Cold song from the hobbit!
Lets not forget Geoff castillo from voice play
This song is from my era and never dreamed that other artists could be any better than Simon and Garfunkle. In the past year I have heard about 4 or 5, and I love them all. Your version with Tim is breathtaking in it's purity and beauty. I was a bit teary-eyed and so grateful that the two of you collaborated on this. I will be listening to this one a lot. Thank you from the Southern U.S. 🤗
1:57 absolute chills
I got chills at that point right before I saw your comment!
@@chonkihonki fr me too it's weird
Absolutely beautiful I,m 84 years old and I never get tired of listening your beautiful music 👍💕
Peter I love your voice and songs.
The people you sing with are good. GOD BLESS YOU AND FAMILY 🙏
love tim foust his voice just go to my heart ❤️
I am a child of the sixties and a diehard fan of S&G. No one can do any justice to the original version , , , , , , , , until now.
Not even Disturbed?
Isaac Gleeth ha... don't make me laugh... you can't put them two anywhere near each other, if S&G's is solid gold, this version would be white gold and Disturbed's would be copper
Good analogy Harleyman.
Isaac Gleeth I can't stand the disturbed version. I wanted to like it but I couldn't.
one of the greatest songs ever written. you guys nailed it!!
i think i asked you with a different account.. but can you do you raise me up by josh groban?

Tim Foust and Peter Hollens! Listening to you both is the highlight of my day. You guys have endless talent given to you by our Saviour Jesus Christ!
Just found this in my feed; better late than never I guess. GREAT sound guys. AND you picked a great song too. Kudos to you both. I'm old enough to remember when Simon & Garfunkel made it famous. Always a favorite of mine.
This is an another AMAZING cover of Sound of Silence. I bet there were TONS of laughter when Tim and Peter were staring straight at each other. It doesn't matter who you are. Even if you are trying to maintain a serious visage, laughter is going to happen. Especially if you are staring at each other face to face.
All it takes is one silly face to set your partner off laughing.
Tim absolutely murdered the song (in an epic way) with his booming voice
Tim Tereshchuk he can sing to me any day.
Tbh i think they didn't use his amazing really low register enough. Wanted more Tim.
This is by far my favorite cover of this song, Peter! Your and Tim's voices together give me chills every time!! Thank you for this!
David draiman
Love Tim Foust's wonderful basso.
Hey, Peter! Could you do Bohemian Rhapsody, or other Queen songs? Or maybe more folk songs, I like those ones too :)
I bet you thought of that one because of the video :) I know I did. And yes, that would be cool.
Konstanze Fowler I love Queen! Bohemian Rapsody ❤
Konstanze Fowler Queen songs would be good. Such as Another One Bites The Dust. That would fit his song.
It would be epic
yessssssssssssss
Did a double take at the end, then "Oh, man, did they kill it or what?" Awesome, guys!!
Hello Diane how are you doing
I am a huge Simon & Garfunkel fan and I’ve heard many remakes of this. My son even learned it as a poem to recite in grade school. I can honestly say that of all the remakes, you guys absolutely nailed this! Your voices were beautiful, like S & G’s are. You interpreted this song perfectly, knowing when to put emphasis or softness to your voices to reflect the meaning of the song, but in your own original way. I saw you did Bridge over Troubled water and I can’t wait to go listen. Incredible job guys!!!
I like Disturb’s cover as well, but this is beautiful.
Thank you. From the past, lost children, of the 60's, lost no more. Saved from drugs and alcohol. Peace be with you.
I'm so happy this came as quickly as it did. And with Tim, oh man just made my day!!! And I'm going to further a call for Ghost Riders in the Sky with Home Free
Yes Please; Ghost Riders in the Sky with Home Free!
Ingenuity has many names.
Peter Hollens and Tim Foust are two of them.
rewatching this in 2019 again, and seeing how Tim looked like 2 years ago, than he is now, it really made me chuckle.
Also, this needs more views!
Simon and Garfunkel one of my favorite artists and must admit you both sing it just as well!. Beautiful.
This is one of the best cover versions I’ve ever heard. Congratulations!!!!!
Oh my dear, the first notes and I love it already 😍 This is amazing!
May I request the Sherlock theme? That'd be awesome!! ❤❤
Thirza Bollema Yes 😍😍😍😍 pls do it 😍❤😍❤
Yes please
Thirza Bollema the theme is kinda short, maybe a Sherlock medley then?
yes
thanks so much Thirza!! Hmm, Sherlock theme.... I will consider it :)
Did anyone hurriedly rush here after listening to Pentatonix's version?
I like this better still.
I agree. But I'll say this - Pentatonix' version was really good. Preference is in style, methinks. I'll take Pentatonix as my 2nd favorite version, much better than Disturbed.
HOW DID YOU KNOW
I so did exactly that. As much as I like Pentatonix, and their version is great, this version has the haunting quality that this song is made for and the Pentatonix version not so much. Peter Hollens has a style that fits songs like this well, like many of his Middle Earth songs, and adding Tim Foust's base voice took it over the top. This is definitely my favorite version of this song.
The Pentatonix version is too much pop and too little goosebumps for me.
yesssss.
This was beyond beautiful! It's one of many I have to watch over and over.
Mad world cover with you and Tim would be awesome!
except that peter already did that one.
Lefty Hara he already did misty mountains cold but he did it with Tim too
Peter, this is definitely the most hauntedly and beautiful version I have ever heard..... loved it
Never thought there could be anything better than S&G on this song, but here it is!
People always comment on Tim's low range...but his high range is amazing too.
It's called the sound of goose bumps 😁. Love it 💙
Oh my gosh! You had me captivated. It took my breath away
Mine too! This was phenomenal. Everything Peter sings is amazing, but this.....Well I'm wiping the tears.
1:42 wow i wasn't expecting him to get this low. really impressive
Angel voices, that's something amazing.
What about "Nights in White Satin" by the Moody Blues? I'd love to hear the lament poem at the end in your voice
Jefferson I absolutely love that song! I hope he does that one as well.
Great suggestion! Nights in White Satin is such an iconic song and it would be great in Peter's style.
Jefferson YES!!! So much YES!!!!!!
Omg yes! That song is so good
Jefferson OMG YES PLEASE DO IT !! IT WOULD BE AWESOME😍
This is totally amazing. The harmonies of your 2 voices gave me chills. I love Simon & Garfunkel. I never thought I could love someone else's version more than their's, but I do. I know I will be playing this all day long and every day after that. Love you both!
wow, that means so much to me Marg!! Thank you so much :D loves!
This is a beautiful version. Buuuuuut, play it back at .85 and it really gets intense.
@Ferb Fletcher There's a custom options on PC, where you can select .85
OH WOW!! The harmony and counter point/contra....oh my!

Hello Piroska how are you doing
FANTASTIC!!! I Love Tim Foust and Home Free! This is Spectacular!!
Request for you to sing 'Im Still Here' from Treasure Planet!!
Yes!!!!!!!
I second this
Hawkpelt94 make that a third! I'm still here by John Rezeznik!
Wholehearted agreement over here!
Please! It's long been one of my favorite songs! So I second this, too.
Remember this song growing up! This is beautiful!
Ten utwór wykonany a capella to nie samowite przeżycie!!!
This was amazing. You and Tim together are the bomb!!! I love all the songs you've done with Home Free.
Tim foust looks like he should be in a star wars movie
I always thought he looked more LOTR
Coltin Riffle yeah more Lord of the Rings then Star Wars
I AGREE WITH THIS
Darth Foust with a Bass Sabre..
"You don't understand the power of the Bass side.."
yeah re reminds me of obiwan
Out freaking standing...Semper Fi.
You and Tim have done it again Peter, sounded like a choir, but no it's just you two awesome singers. Absolutely brilliant again 👏👏💞🤗
I love Tims voice❤️
Peter, I want to hear more songs with you and Tim. Thank you
I 2nd this request

Love you, Home Free and Penta tonix!!!
Tim's voice can melt chastity belts
You win the interweb...
Oh yes
I so wanna know if he's read this! 😀
All ovaries have left the chat!
Absolutely
This could very be the next music trend.
A CAPPELLA GROUPS.
Watch out for it.
Beautifully done guys. That deep reverberation from Tim was an awesome addition to a beautiful tenor. All of the extra faces may cause nightmares in some people, but the song was beautiful.
All I can say is BRAVO!!!
this is the best version I've ever heard. absolutely incredible. The voices blend so beautifully. Thank you
I have always loved this song, love Peter and Tim's voices singing this. Some of the phrases in the song have taken on a much deeper meaning for me now that my husband has passed away.
Great as always 💕💞💗❤️, love from danmark 🇩🇰
So beautiful it brings tears.
Hello beautiful how are you doing
Your songs give PEACE!!!!
I love the way your voices mesh.
Very true to the original tone and spirit of this song.
This has become by far my favorite version of this song. Leaving out that last "of silence" at the end was genius.
The angels voices!!!!
Just stumbled across this and I have to say this version was way better. I feel like this gives a more understanding and meaning to the song from the way it was sung because of the simplicity. And really giving off the sound of silence.
I clicked on this thinking "He better have not screwed this one up" Good job.
Mate2Frio I think that about most covers by anybody. He did this one fantastically!
I love this version of this song.
Love Tim using Peters set up. It’s simply beautiful. They both have tremendous talent and to ensure it mulified in this way is nothing less than sacred.
Peter, you and Tim are an amazing duo. The people who disliked this video have no concept of beautiful vocals.
I love the song especially Tim foust vocals is he naturally that deep voiced
Yes, and he has an amazing range, too.
Keep up teaming up withTim. He is super
Wow 😮 the combination of your voices is like a prayer ❤️
I would love to hear you sing Agony from Into The Woods.
Oh yeah! That would be cool.
I want a shirt that says Tim Foust for president!
Elect him just so we can get him on the radio to say: "This is your President speaking" In that soul shattering bass.
One of the most beautiful songs ever written and performed by incomparable talent. First heard this years ago and I need to bring this up periodically to again fall into the sound.
Just listening to this again. I got chills right at the end
Tim Foust brings a resonance to this song like no other version I have heard!
I simply need to hear more of the 2 of you together. Just brilliant voices, and incredible harmonies. I can't get enough of these.
It's always weird and also amazing to see a bass singer like Tim singer singing in the higher registers too.
I see Peter Hollens and Tim Foust and I get goosebumps before I even start listening!
Ah! This was WONDERFUL! You never fail to impress me with not just your voice, but how talented you are at arranging!
I know this is a bit of an odd request, but I would LOVE to hear your interpretation of "A Narnian Lullaby" :D
BroadwayBrittany that's a great song!
BroadwayBrittany He doesn't arrange them... Look in the description, it's someone called Tom Anderson
Sarah Smith Oh man, I never realized; thank you for enlightening me. That said, the two of them together make quite the dynamic team :D
Great music,Peter,GREAT!
This is absolutely amazing!!! Let's go HOllens and Foust!!! 😍😍😍
Hello Crystal how are you doing
Wow Tim is incredible
You've done this justice. I listen to this version all the time.
This and Disturbed version are the best and do this song justice
Goose bumps hearing this. That bass sends chills all over
Beautiful rendition. Thank you
Love these two together
I will never tire of a Capella! God gave you a gift! Beautiful!
